Steve D
New York extends waiting period for some gun purchases July 29, 2019 01:27 PM ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York is extending the waiting period for certain gun purchases from three days to 30 days to give authorities more time to run background checks. The change signed into law Monday by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo will apply when a federal instant background check returns inconclusive results for a potential gun buyer. But dealers are directed to delay the sale when a check turns up details requiring further scrutiny. Cuomo says the 30-day wait will give authorities time to prevent dangerous people from obtaining firearms. The change takes effect in September. So what does Cuomo do about a buyer who is delayed the purchase of a firearm, BUT already legally owns a firearm? Gun control advocates view gun violence illogically. No firearm commited a shooting on its own, We can only hope that gun control advocates will connect the dots to the root causes of gun violence like the failed war on the distribution, sale and use of illegal drugs, the failed mental health programs that allow the violently mentally ill (many who are drug addicts) loose in public, the failed disciplinary system in public schools and at home, and the welfare system that has enabled fatherless families where the children are at higher risk for being victims of gun violence and being criminals. 4 hours ago, Steve D said: But dealers are directed to delay the sale when a check turns up details requiring further scrutiny. Exactly what is the "further scrutiny" criteria? Edited July 30, 2019 by ADK Native
Rattler
"Instant" background checks were supposed to prevent this type of crap from ever happening. Now the govt will have motive to fill the data base with erroneous crap, so they will always get errors that require further scrutiny. Why not fix the data base so there are no errors? That would ensure people's rights are not held hostage by the govt when they are responsible law abiding citizens who are merely exercising their right to own a firearm. That would not allow the govt to prevent as many gun purchases as possible though, which is the real reason all of this crap happens in the first place. This is all by design people. Rattler
"So what does Cuomo do about a buyer who is delayed the purchase of a firearm, BUT already legally owns a firearm?" It has not been announced yet, but he plans to have you turn ALL of your firearms in to the police whenever they get a denial or delay on a NICS check. This will prevent people from buying more firearms, for fear they will be denied and lose all of them. It's a "Guilty until proven innocent" scenario that will cost you thousands in legal fees to correct. When the govt hates your guns, and hates those who own them, there is nothing they won't do to you. That's totalitarian tyranny, and Cuomo is the prime example of a repeat offender. It isn't a denial that is covered in this. There could be multiple people with the same name and one or more have issues that the Fed's want to evaluate. Nationally the have 3 days to clear it up, if not it presumed to be approved at that point. I know one guy that gets tied up in this all the time. He has a VERY common name and since the line to provide your social security number is optional he chooses to not provide it. If he did I am sure it would have been approved right away.
