Long Bow

Does anyone hunt with a longbow, or consider hunting with a long bow I have had thoughts of trying but I have yet to take a deer with my compound bow.

I hunt with a long bow have taken some nice deer too. They feel like a huge accomplishment too. A lot of prep shooting wise though.

Go for it shoot alot know your range.I use a recurve but also longbow sometimes nothing like it when you take a deer with it.

I am hoping to hunt with a recurve next year. Still setting up a vintage Bear Grizzly circa 1970 and some newer aluminum arrows.

I took this deer last night 10-16-11 with my martin vision. She was 15 yard out broadside. I one lunged her and hit her in the liver.

I have been hunting with a Longbow since 1970 and have been hunting Longbow Only through all the seasons for about 10 years now. It is definitely more challenging. But that is very much a part of it. I have killed enough to know, I do not have to kill. I hunt for the sake of the hunt and understand that success isn't always a blood trail. Don't get me wrong, I want meat in the freezer just like I have always done. Traditional Archery means shooting and practicing year round, with experience and proficiency there is no handicap hunting with a traditional bow.

Steve you hit it right on the head using a long bow or recurve is a commitment and you hae to stick to it. I love the thrill of sitting there and having them just out of range and asking yourself what could have i done but when it all works out what a feeling.
