I have a digital trail cam didnt feel like spending the extra money to go infrared.I have heard if a mature buck gets flashed a few times from a trail cam he most likely will not return to that spot. Im going to make a couple of mock scrapes this week and would like to see what is coming into them. Think im safe using the trail cam or better off to not use it i dont wanna scare away a good buck??

i would be hesitant... i wouldnt risk the chance of the flash scaring off a buck and possibly him never coming into the area from a flash cam. Dont get me wrong i have flash cams that have cought some monsters but typically it was during the summer months and usually it was only one shot and then i would see him for a few days. im not to sure about this time of year but ill stick to my IR cam personally...

Thanx ill probably go pick up a IR or go with no cam.. Any tips on making a mock scrape made a few in the past without alot of luck??

Whizz in them, but under no circumstances even brush the branches that will be the licking branches. Something you might try is taking a cutting from a licking branch of an actual scrape, don't touch the licking portion mind you, and then zip tying over the scrape off of another branch.

I think the IR cams make them wary too after a while. Those lights are visible in the dark if you're looking at them.

your absolutely right now imagine using a flash cam...

i actually have a nice buck whos been showing up and he looks right into the cam and doesnt seem to be to bothered by it. i actually get quite a few shots at a clip and sometimes 2 different times in one night. Ill take my chance with my IR it omits the IR very low so i like it.

Yeah this close to the season i wouldnt be messing around trying to get pics if you havent already had the cam there for a while.

I bought a 2011 bushnell trophy cam infrared and have it over a little woodland food plot and have gooten pics of deer walking passed cam ( i have it set up to cover the center where 6 entrances / exits to the plot are) in the first pic and then on the second next pic u see the deer in a startled appearance looking at cam...the regular does in the area are well used to it, turkeys show no interest, but a few deer have probably heard the camera go off which is amazing because i accidently took pics of myself in my basement (quiet as anything) at arms length away and didnt hear a sound.

The most adverse reaction was a yearling forkhorn in September already had horned walking by the cam...then next pic he is high tailing it out of hte plot straight away from the cam.

I think any way you look at it there are pros and cons for both..I bought a infer red trail cam and havnt had a problem wit it yet i havnt had many pics but the ones i do have the deer dont seem to be botherd.I noticed some camera make a noize when they kick on to.Im shure it spooks em but its a win loose type thing!!
