JALA RUT
Since some are seeing hens with poults already would that indicate that the turkey mating season is done? Are gobblers done mating and not looking for hens anymore or would Toms still be on the prowl looking for any receptive hens?
Pygmy
I beg to differ....Gobblers will respond to receptive hens up until early summer...Lots of hens get their nests busted by nest predators such as coons, skunks, fishers etc..And many will re nest...While they are laying a new clutch they often will seek company of a gobbler... I have heard active gobbling right up into early July....
Lomax
This is from a couple years ago is this late breeding activity or just normal behavior. I don’t seem to get any pics of Toms fanned out other than springtime. This was latest I ever got of fanned out birds.
Pygmy
Not unusual at all.....Same as whitetail bucks still engaging in rutting behavior in January ( or later) as long as there are still receptive does around...
mowin
Few yrs back on July 4th, I woke up to gobbling very close to the house. I looked out the window, and there's 3 Tom's in strut following some hens with poults.
