JJBat150
So I was in the stand yesterday listening to tree frogs, and swatting bugs... Would make the title of a country song ...."Tree Frogs and Tee-shits"
Doc
My sense of this year's hunting weather is that we have had all kinds of extremes. This hasn't been the worst year of hunting weather I have ever hunted in, or the best. Early bow season was wet and windy. Then it turned warmer and dry. Then back and forth some more. We've had some great mornings and ugly windy afternoons during both bow and gun season. My recollection of past hunting seasons is about the same kind of mixture of weather. Could have used some more snow cover, but I managed to get along without it. At this point, I could really care less what the weather does. I'm pretty much finished. The number of shots I have heard in the past week could be counted on one hand. And yet the deer are still spooked into nocturnal super-survival mode. I got my venison, and for me it's time to call it a season.
crs740
What really has made me a little upset about this year has been the wind. We have hardly had any north wind days at all. That si typcially the predominant wind as you move into november. I have not been able to hunt some of my best locations because I set up stands for west or north winds. I am going to evenly distrubute my stands this summer so that will not happen again. Additionally, it has been quite warm, much more so than last year. That has really shut down the movement
nyantler
For all the so called bad weather.. there were still many bucks taken.. big and small.. some fellas and gals were just luckier than others... for some the bad hunting weather just seemed to fall on the days they could hunt.. happens all the time. crs740
No doubt there were a lot of deer still taken and there were a few days during the week I wish I could have hunted that were better than the weekends and thanksgiving holiday. Still, it has been much warmer than last year and my processor told me that he has seen a lot fewer big bucks (130"+) than usual. I guess there will just be more big deer next year, right?? tughillhunter
I agree with the wind..... brutal. And walking thru the woods last tuesday and seeing a few frogs dip in the mud ruts was a lil wierd for late november in the great white north. And yes 740, alot more big bucks next year lets hope.
