CTHunter
I have always wanted to buy a camp on some land to hunt and enjoy. One of the downfalls was what happens when your not there. What do most of you that have camps do about feeling secure about your properties. Anyone have any issues with theft or vandalism? Just thought I would see before I work a deal out with someone. Thanks!
G-Man
Never had problems, take the time to introduce yourself to the neighbors that are year round residents, they are great watchers and can become good friends. a lot are a little hesitant about a city person but if you gain their trust you can get free security and meet a lot of good people from the area, that my benifit you when you need a hand/work done. Do NOT ever put a chain up Across the driveway!!! this is a huge tip off to i'm not home!!! the locals down here know exactly who is out by the chain's being up. and know wether they can hunt/tresspass or not by it... your better off having a good neighbor drive in and out leaving tracks, and randomly coming down on off days during the week. Culvercreek hunt club
Ours is a mile back in the woods so it doesn' t get much local traffic. I hate to even reply to this for fear of jinxing myself. We go have a gate but it is aways up even when we are there and the ROW enters through a guys lawn at the road. Best advice is what G-man said. get to know the neighbors. We also took the possibility of break in during construction. Nothing is 100% secure but we used small windows you can't crawl through and the camp is up on foundations so the wndows aren't easy to look in through. We have metal doors and metal door frames with heavy C-channel security bars. A torch would be required to get through it. The roof and siding is all metal. never leave anything visible of value inside the camp.
First-light
All good advice, the neighbor security is the best!
Hunterny28
I agree with getting to know the neighbors. Where we hunt, the land owner made sure to introduce us to the neighbors. This way he has someone always keeping an eye on the place. Like Gman stated above. I wouldn't leave anything in sight through a window or when you are there if close to the road. And try to make sure to change up your pattern and make them trying to guess when you will show up. I have heard of people putting up trail cams to try to grab pictures if someone is sneaking around. good luck with finding a deal and don't let the thought of vanadilsm stop you from doing so. Just take all the precautions you can and enjoy the new property!
