yukonhunter
I have one puppy left, he is huge and beautiful. Dad weighs 150lbs and will weigh 180lbs when he fills out. Mother weighs 90ls. Check out www.harvestmoonmalamutes.com for more info or type in harvest moon malamutes on facebook and join our page. I love when the pups go to a family that loves the out doors like we do.. Thanks guys. They are only 6 weeks old !!!!

tughillhunter
How are they with other dogs? I have a saint bernard, and he is our only dog, but is great when he goes around other dogs.
nyslowhand
I had a malamute, not the giant variation. They are pack dogs and have genes from the wolf species. They are NOT indoors dogs! They ARE very active dogs needing exercise! They should NOT be allowed to run free & unattended outdoors!! They will terrorize the neighborhood cats and other domestic or wild animinals. With that being said, mine was a very beautiful dog, loyal & extremely friendly to all people small & tall. Loved kids, but generally scared the hell out of them by being so large & overly friendly. You'll need one of those special pronged or choker style collars if you plan on walking & retaining control over the dog. Even a regular bred malamute that tops out at 80-100lbs will take you for a run if you don't have control of them. Basically you need to know what you'll be getting into before adopting a malamute. Wish I had the right home/yard situation, I'd have another one in a minute!!!!!
yukonhunter
Actually the giants are very laid back I keep all 4 of mine indoors, and get along great with other dogs. Look up giant malamutes and everyone will agree. I think Ny slowhand may have had some husky mixed in with his. lol

nyslowhand
I think Ny slowhand may have had some husky mixed in with his. lol No mixed breed, mine was an AKC registered Malamute. That dog, his parents & litter mates all exhibited the traits I outlined. Of course not all dogs within any breed can be expected to show the exact same traits! General traits or characteristics, certainily!! Just as a side note; In the rare situations where my malamute broke his tether (chain), he'd bring home souviners of his romps. Neighbor's cats & poultry. His parents had broke free one time and taken down a full grown farmer's hog. Unbelievable, but true!!
yukonhunter
They are very strong dogs, and if not socialized, they are true hunters lol
