I think it was last years shed. It's too bleached white from the sun and there is no blood on the knob.

Well I set it down , my dog grabbed it ,, it’s all soft marrow inside ...

the end at the head looks fresh

Pretty white i think its last year and its classed hard white. Your dog may be responding to your hand smell. The end was possibly not exposed to the sun as much or in wet shade.. Fresh sheds often have blood or dried blood on the base.
