Otto
7 hours ago, Farflung said: very nice. Two thoughts: Are the batten strips nailed to just one side? If so you will need to nail the other side down once the softwood boards have dried (shrunk). Also, if the floor and joists are not pressure treated, it will last a lot longer if you can raise it off of the ground by a foot, for better air circulation. I think you should leave them nailed on one side always. Wood will shrink and swell depending on weather factors. If you nail down both side you have cracked boards and or battens. I have an Amish built barn, all board and batten. None of the battens are nailed on both sides.
Farflung
Otto-I've always let them dry and shrink up to "air-dry" state and then nail the other side down. Once they are at air dry, the amount of swelling with fluctuation in humidity is minimal. I've built several and currently own a house and a 12 by 24 barn that are board and batten. Reduces the amount of air infiltration. But I've seen them left loose also.
