While I as well as others have strong feelings about this topic, it doesn't get in the way of friendships or other positive communication.(for me at least)If someone is tired of this conversation don't read the comments. Move on. It always strikes me as funny that someone has had it with a conversation that takes place on an internet forum. I am pretty sure that no one is being forced to read any of it. If Doc wanted to be really petty he could make the last comment and then lock the thread. I have Moderating privileges on another Hunting and Fishing Forum and I have always been tempted to do that but never have. I will say I'm done on this topic unless someone says "Thank God" or asks me a specific question, or isn't really clear on where I stand on it.1 point

it's all about that. They don't always respond back nor interested at times. What than? You need a plan b, c etc. Knowing their travel patterns, dusting sites etc will help you tag a bird. Just saying.1 point

If you have ever used an electric fence, or know someone who has one you should read this. The language used is a bit salty, but 'he tells it like it is' without cursing. If you don't laugh hysterically at this, CHECK YOUR PULSE... this is funny... and true. This was sent by a retired dentist. We have the standard 6 ft. fence in the backyard, and a few months ago, I heard about burglaries increasing dramatically in the entire city. To make sure this never happened to me, I got an electric fence and ran a single wire along the top of the fence. Actually, I got the biggest cattle charger Tractor Supply had, made for 26 miles of fence. I then used an 8 ft. long ground rod, and drove it 7.5 ft. into the ground. The ground rod is the key, with the more you have in the ground, the better the fence works. One day I'm mowing the back yard with my cheapo Wal-Mart6 hp big wheel push mower. The hot wire is broken and laying out in the yard. I knew for a fact that I unplugged the charger. I pushed the mower around the wire and reached down to grab it, to throw it out of the way. It seems as though I hadn't remembered to unplug it after all. Now I'm standing there, I've got the running lawnmower in my right hand and the 1.7 giga-volt fence wire in the other hand. Keep in mind the charger is about the size of a marine battery and has a picture of an upside down cow on fire on the cover. Time stood still. The first thing I notice is my pecker trying to climb up the front side of my body. My ears curled down wards and I could feel the lawnmower ignition firing in the backside of my brain. Every time that Briggs & Stratton rolled over, I could feel the spark in my head. I was literally at one with the engine It seems as though the fence charger and the piece of shit lawnmower were fighting over who would control my electrical impulses. Science says you cannot crap, pee, and vomit at the same time. I beg to differ. Not only did I do all three at once, but my bowels emptied 3 different times in less than half of a second. It was a Matrix kind of bowel movement, where time is creeping along and you're all leaned back and BAM BAM BAM you just crap your pants 3 times. It seemed like there were minutes in between but in reality it was so close together. It was like exhaust pulses from a big block Chevy turning 8 grand. At this point I'm about 30 minutes (maybe 2 seconds) into holding onto the fence wire. My hand is wrapped around the wire palm down so I can't let go. I grew up on a farm so I know all about electric fences. But Dad always had those piece of shit chargers made by International or whoever that were like 9 volts and just kinda tickled. This one I could not let go of. The 8 ft. long ground rod is now accepting signals from me through the permadamp Ark-La-Tex river bottom soil. At this point I'm thinking I'm going to have to just man up and take it, until the lawnmower runs out of gas. 'Damn!,' I think, as I remember I just filled the tank! Now the lawnmower is starting to run rough. It has settled into a loping run pattern as if it had some kind of big lawnmower race cam in it. Covered in poop, pee, and with my vomit on my chest, I think 'Oh God please die... Pleeeeaze die'. But nooooo, it settles into the rough lumpy cam idle nicely and remains there, like a big bore roller cam EFI motor waiting for the go command from its owner's right foot. So here I am in the middle of July, 104 degrees, 80% humidity, standing in my own backyard, begging God to kill me. God did not take me that day. He left me there covered in my own fluids to writhe in the misery my own stupidity had created. I honestly don't know how I got loose from the wire. I woke up laying on the ground hours later. The lawnmower was beside me, out of gas. It was later on in the day and I was sunburned. There were two large dead grass spots where I had been standing, and then another long skinny dead spot where the wire had laid while I was on the ground still holding on to it. I assume I finally had a seizure and in the resulting thrashing had somehow let go of the wire. Upon waking from my electrically induced sleep I realized a few things: 1 - Three of the fillings in my teeth have melted. 2 - I now have cramps in the bottoms of my feet and my right butt cheek (not the left, just the right). 3 - Poop, pee, and vomit when all mixed together, do not smell as bad as you might think. 4 - My left eye will not open. 5 - My right eye will not close. 6 - The lawnmower runs like a sumbitch now. Seriously! I think our little session cleared out some carbon fouling or something, because it was better than new after that. 7 - My nads are still smaller than average yet they are almost a foot long. 8 - I can turn on the TV in the game room by farting while thinking of the number 4 (still don't understand this???). That day changed my life. I now have a newfound respect for things. I appreciate the little things more, and now I always triple check to make sure the fence is unplugged before I mow. The good news, is that if a burglar does try to come over the fence, I can clearly visualize what my security system will do to him, and THAT gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over, which also reminds me to triple check before I mow.1 point

The difference is, we arent talking about a pedophile, murderer or drug dealer Elmer. Having loose marital morals and making mistakes when one was young is no comparison to that kind of thing.1 point

my 2cents. Nuge is the worst thing to ever happen to the gun rights community. He has never turned one anti to our side in his whole career as far as i can tell. And he will never be Charlton Heston even if he lives to be as old as moses lived to be. In true Ronald Reagan form, Heston slapped the anti's and the lefty media around without breaking a sweat and did it with a class that made people want to hear his message and wanted to follow him because he was a good and decent man and he was fighting a good and decent cause. Even if you weren't a republican you liked Reagan and even if you didn't own a gun , you liked Heston. Someone will step up and lead this fight but unfortunately when Teds involved, there is only room for Ted. We have freedom, facts, goodness, integrity, and history on our side. We don't need the Freak.1 point

I think the only "audience" that listens to Nugent are those that WANT to hear him. With the NRA zealots he has a captive audience. With EVERYONE else they just shrug it off as - look at where it's coming from... an IDIOT! Nugent doesn't represent the NRA, Nugent doesn't represent his Family, Nugent doesn't represent Veterans! Nugent represents Nugent! All of his actions prove demonstrate just that. As a veteran all I can say is. It takes a hell of a lot of nerve to wrap yourself in the American Flag screaming Hoo ahh!! After eating sausage and deffecating in your own pants for two weeks, so you can get yourself eliminated from the Draft.. The only conviction or principle this nut job has is looking out for Numeral Uno.1 point

We don't agree, how likely is it that I am going to change your mind? How likely is it going to be that you are going to change mine? You believe Ted only represents himself. I don't believe that for a moment. I have heard him express in a number of interviews other wise. You choose to believe what you wish to. You don't believe that how someone's conducts them self in their personal life should be considered in your evaluation of them or their character I don't agree. It all matters, if I don't respect the person I am not going to have any interest in what they have to say. I can't get to that place with Ted. To much baggage, to much controversy and instability, to much self promotion and ego. Not my kind of person in any regard. Not a person I would choose to have people associate hunters and gunowners with.1 point

The bottom line Doc is that he does more harm than good. So what good is he? He hasn't gained any thing meaningful for us. If you believe he has I would like to hear about it. He is articulate enough and quick thinking enough to put an anti in their place from time to time. That isn't enough, especially so with his baggage and his tendency to take one step forward and two steps back by his ill conceived and some times illegal actions. He needs to have the respect of us and the general public. He doesn't have our unified respect (my guess is maybe 50%) and I guarantee that he is no where close to having the respect of the majority of the general public. The hunting boards are loaded now with discussions about Ted. I am actually pleased that the majority of the comments are not in favor of him. Go on the community forum on BOWSITE, and 24 Hour Campfire. Finally people are waking up to how negative a force he is for us.1 point

I'd rather Nugent not say anything at all. His past and his present reveal the very questionable character he really is. By his actions and his motor mouth he gives sportsman, particularly hunters and gun owners a big black eye. Nugent isn't promoting gun rights, Nugent is promoting Nugent. Listening to Nugent on Ethics and Behavior would be like going to a sex therapy seminar given by Nuns.1 point

This is the way these threads typically go. The whole your not perfect either vibe. I'm not, not even close but I am also not a self appointed leader in the area of gun rights and our hunting heritage. If you want to have a leader with his past and present that is your perogative. I personally expect more from the people I am going to endorse or support and it has nothing to do with my capacity for forgiveness. This guy's indescretions are many, he is a political and public figure and as such is going to be held in the public eye to much higher standards and face the criticism that comes along with being in that position. I personally find the guy to be an embarrassment and I want nothing to do with him. I would ask anyone here to demonstrate to me what positive impact he has had with anyone who wasn't pro gun or pro hunting any way. The notion that no matter what someone has displayed as their character as long as they are advocates of things we support we have an obligation to defend and support them is ridiculous! He is in the process of self destructing, shouting obscenities at an interviewer and a producer while being televised? Is that what mature, responsible people do? I guess for some the only criteria they have for the people they support is how loud and how often they tell someone else to kiss their butt. It has to be a whole lot deeper than that if it is to be meaningful!!1 point

My judgement is just fine. I don't blindly follow anyone and if someone purports to be my spokesperson I have every right to use my own judgement in evaluating their character. Nugent has gotten a free pass on character flaws that are so deep that it defies explanation. You know who sets the tone for influencing people in our communities in regard to gun ownership and acceptance of ourselves as hunters. We do! By our respect and decency not by turning that responsibility over to someone who causes us way more harm than good. If we align with him we all look like fools. Most of us work to hard to earn the respect of people from all walks of life with many differing view points to lose our own credibility aligning with someone they immediately don't respect. If there are so many of us who find him damaging, what is the liklihood that he is seen in a positive light by the rest of the general public?1 point

Not an expert by any means but what worked for me is hearing them gobble deep in the woods. I cut the distance down and listen, call and see if they gobble again. Usually further away so I keep cutting the distance down and eventually get close enough to the gobble sound to plant myself down and do some calling. Had them sneak in on me a few times, you do not always hear them gobbling right to you. I don't have a spot for turkey, I just cut the distance down from where I hear them gobble.1 point
