I've heard some folks say that all this rallying and letter writing won't do anything, that it will ultimately be decided in the courts. Regardless, I won't let up. Partially because of the subject of this thread, they're hearing us at least a little. Partially because I'm stubborn. I hope that you are all registered to vote and checking that your friends, gun club members, etc. are as well. "It does not take a majority to prevail ... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." --Samuel Adams

Schoharie Pro-Gun Rally
jusputtn replied to jusputtn's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
About 500 people attended the rally last Saturday. Senator Seward and Assemblyman Lopez spoke. U.S. Congressman Chris Gibson sent an aid. The County Sheriff spoke. Uncle Joe is inspirational, he comes in at 11:00 on the linked youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pCaA8c0Eo4 -
http://schoharie.wnyt.com/news/events/205022-gun-rally-be-held Anyone planning to go to this? There's only a little on the web about it. It's this Saturday the 16th. I plan on attending.

Feb 28th - Rally in Albany
jusputtn replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It was packed. Missed an appointment with my Senator in the AM as I didn't plan for the line through security to take an hour. Saw my Assemblyman at the end. The pompous ass didn't care that there was a record crowd at the rally, that numerous counties have or soon will pass resolutions against the SAFE Act or that NRA members outnumber Brady Campaign members by more than 100 to 1. He's wrapped in the cloak of his district, 110 which is from Menands through Schenectady. What he doesn't understand is that "if" the majority of the people in his district support gun control as he says, it is because they are ignorant. Thus they are unable and/or not interested in schooling up on the subject. Not sure how to change the voter's opinions. Perhaps more youth programs, more letters to the editors of the newspapers. IMOP, there is no way that the guy will change his mind so the only recourse is to get him voted out of office or to replace enough anti-gun legislators in the state so as to nullify him.- 32 replies

You can't buy one legally in NY at the time being. I hope you've been calling and writing your legislators on the matter. -

Grinning from ear to ear. Can't wait for the 28th. Six guys from my gun club made it to the Guns Across America Rally in January. For the 28th, we're renting a bus with over 60 committed. The Capitol is going to be overrun. -
I try to avoid Dick's at all costs. They required entry of a pistol permit number to buy .45 pistol ammo. Showing a pistol permit was only required for exclusively pistol only ammo, which includes very few rounds such as the 25 auto & 380. At least I've never seen a rifle for those cartridges. It's inappropriate for them to record pistol permit numbers as well. I called corporate to complain and the corporate rep really didn't give a damn that their policy is wrong and inappropriate.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/01/30/n-y-gov-cuomo-sees-approval-rating-drop-after-new-gun-laws/ Heard on NPR this afternoon that Governor Cuomo's approval rating has dropped 15 points (It's still way higher than he deserves, IMHO). Follow the above link to read more. The sleeping giant is awakening.

Apparently the reporter in the article lied. I found this from JJ, From FB Guns Across America (https://www.facebook.com/GunsAcrossAmericaNewYork): **VITAL INFO** from JJ, our organizer: A brief bit of confusion among group leaders as to what donations were slotted for what causes, has erupted into a libelous issue at the hands of unscrupulous reporters! I have been "QUOTED" in a certain paper as having accused Lisa Donovan of "HIJACKING" the donations. How LOW can the media go???? I am handling the problem and please be assured that NO one has done ANYTHING wrong. Remember, DON'T BELIEVE THE LIBERAL MEDIA!. Here is her comment in that paper: "I am appalled that anyone would write such a libelous piece of garbage, but then again, I am not surprised as this is the usual practice of the Reg-Star/ Chatham Courier." I have had more battles than I can count with this paper! This is an attack on ME as a dissenter of their practices and on Lisa Donovan who has been wrongly accused of mis-conduct with NO investigation or comment from HER. How horribly unfair and divisive! Perhaps that is the goal? We will be requesting an immediate retraction and an apology to Mrs, Donovan and myself on the FRONT page. - JJ. Johnson-Smith Organizer, Guns Across America

Bit disturbing at the end as the money that I donated to the rally organizer didn't get to her. I emailed the upstate conservatives and asked them to give the money to JJ as intended.

Before you go crazy with a hacksaw and/or torch, I'd be patient and just plan what you may need to do. This NRA/NYSRPA are filling a lawsuit with the NY Supreme Court this week. Another even larger protest at the capitol is beginning to be organized for February. The fat lady hasn't sung yet. -

No. Any greater than 7 but less than 11 round mags owned before the SAFE Act are grandfathered as keepers. However, you may only put 7 bullets in the mag. most of the time if not at any time. I saw a section in the law that seemed to allow 10 rounds at a shooting range but have heard no one else mention this. Perhaps my reading skills are lacking. I should also add a disclaimer that I'm not any attorney nor do I intend to give the any indication that I can speak Leagalease. If my interpretation is correct, this could get folks into trouble if they forget to double check the number of rounds in any unfired mags on their way home. 7-f. Possession and use of a magazine, belt, feed strip or similar 9 device, that contains more than seven rounds of ammunition, but that 10 does not have a capacity of or can readily be restored or converted to 11 accept more than ten rounds of ammunition, at an indoor or outdoor 12 firing range located in or on premises owned or occupied by a duly 13 incorporated organization organized for conservation purposes or to 14 foster proficiency in arms; at an indoor or outdoor firing range for the 15 purpose of firing a rifle or shotgun; at a collegiate, olympic or target 16 shooting competition under the auspices of or approved by the national 17 rifle association; or at an organized match sanctioned by the Interna- 18 tional Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association. -
From: Jacob J. Rieper, Vice President of Legislative & Political Affairs <[email protected]> Date: Mon, Jan 21, 2013 at 6:35 AM Subject: [NYSRPA-alert] Hit us with your best shot, Andy! To: NYSRPA-alert <[email protected]> http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/hit_us_with_your_best_shot_andy_5rxZg0gYBJJhkLBtiTPMfJ Assault-rifle owners statewide are organizing a mass boycott of Gov. Cuomo’s new law mandating they register their weapons, daring officials to “come and take it away,” The Post has learned. Gun-range owners and gun-rights advocates are encouraging hundreds of thousands of owners to defy the law, saying it’d be the largest act of civil disobedience in state history. “I’ve heard from hundreds of people that they’re prepared to defy the law, and that number will be magnified by the thousands, by the tens of thousands, when the registration deadline comes,’’ said Brian Olesen, president of the American Shooters Supply, one of the largest gun dealers in the state. Officials estimate at least 1 million semiautomatic rifles are owned in the state, sources said. And come April 15, 2014 — when Cuomo is expected to be running for re-election — they all have to be registered with the State Police. But because the rifles have been legal but unregistered until now, authorities don’t know who has them or where they are located. State officials will be nervously watching the registration figures to see how many gun owners comply, sources said. “I believe you will have people stepping forward, saying, ‘Here I am. See? I have what you call an assault rifle. Now come and take it away,’ ’’ said a gun-rights activist and boycott organizer. That’s exactly what state officials are worried about. “Many of these assault-rifle owners aren’t going to register; we realize that,’’ said a Cuomo-administration source who added that officials expect “widespread violations’’ of the new law. Owners who refuse to register could face a class-A misdemeanor — punishable by up to a year in prison. And an owner’s weapon could also be confiscated, which could be worth several thousands of dollars. National Rifle Association President David Keene told The Post yesterday that he wasn’t surprised by the planned boycott. “While we don’t get involved in campaigns to resist the law, I will say this: Historic experience here and in Canada shows that when you try to force gun owners into a registration and licensing system, there’s usually mass opposition and mass noncompliance,” he said. “I think it’s going to be very difficult for the governor to get mass compliance with this new law.” Leaders of some of the state’s 300 gun clubs, gun dealers and Second Amendment organizations are organizing the boycott — and the heaviest interest is in Suffolk County, the Capital District and the Buffalo region, sources said. The organizers point to a little-known guarantee of gun ownership contained in New York’s own “Civil Rights Law,” which was ratified the same year as the Constitution . The state statute says the right to keep and bear arms “cannot be infringed” — stronger than the Second Amendment, which says it “shall not be infringed.’’ “They’re saying, ‘F--- the governor! F--- Cuomo! We’re not going to register our guns,’ and I think they’re serious. People are not going to do it. People are going to resist,’’ said State Rifle and Pistol Association President Tom King, a member of the NRA board of directors. “They’re taking one of our guaranteed civil rights, and they’re taking it away.’’ Olesen said he’ll soon launch a nonprofit, to be called Save the Second Amendment Foundation,’ to fight the new law.

Fasteddie, You need to work on your attitude. Life is too short for a "the glass if half full" outlook. -
I stand corrected. Someone with more political rally experience in Albany informed me that a normal crowd on 2nd A day is about 3500. He estimated that today's crowd was more like 10,000. I don't know either way but the west lawn of the capitol was filled.

Here's a few photos from the rally in Albany today. YNN was there and channel 10 has a photo on their website. Didn't see anything on 6 or 13 yet. A few thousand+ made it.
