  1. Nice video. Yes, hunting can be an emotional roller coaster.
  2. Figures, I order a recurve and then stumble across this the next day.
  3. Why is it that some folks choose to bitch about goods from Southeast Asia, India, etc.but certain products like a Belgium made Browning, French wine, anything with German engineering, Italian shotguns, etc. are perfectly acceptable to most people? BTW, are any of you following this thread typing away on an American made computer? If America wants to be a leader in manufacturing again, the price needs to be competitive. The quality already is in most cases. I've been getting squeezed by increased day to day costs of living, increased insurance costs and no raise for 2 years. Price is an important factor in my life.
  4. I wouldn't put it all on U.S. Corporations. We, the American consumer, like to buy our goods cheap. If the demand was only for American made goods in this country, there would be no market for foreign goods here. I'll pat myself on the back for my recent purchase of a pair of LL Bean hunting boots.
  5. I haven't reloaded 223 military brass but with 30-06 military brass I was breaking de-capping pins. I ended up buying an RCBS Universal Decapping Die. It has a heavier decapping pin. Still broke pins but fewer and farther between.
  6. RobC, I've been reloading for years with no reliability issues. Just pay attention to what you're doing & enjoy.
  7. A put is a no hurry no particular destination motorcycle ride, just putting along. See a turn up ahead, take it and see where you come out, no gps allowed.
  8. Really, it's still a freakin' domesticated cow. Here's a budget saving version for those interested in harvesting such an animal. Start knocking on local farmer's doors. The cost for the animal might be the same but you'd save an s-load on travel and meat shipping costs. Though, it would be a disappointment to the horn hunters out there as most farmers de-horn their bulls, not to mention Holsteins aren't bred for horn size to begin with.
  9. Seems like law enforcement has been castrated in that neighborhood. The guy's got balls! Good for him.
  10. There are rules in the DEC syllabus. I think it's no firearms at night.
  11. Do you carry pruning shears? Not the perfect answer but easier than wearing armor.
  12. I've heard that NY coyotes can have as much as 20% wolf DNA. Interesting that out west the wolves kill coyotes and in the east they've screwed each other. Same thing can happen with a dog in heat.
  13. I saw a revolver that looked like that once. A guy at the gun club had handloaded a lead target round. Forgot what he was trying to adjust on his press but in hindsight he thought he accidentally triple charged a round. Do you really believe this guy who blamed it on cheap Chinese ammo? Perhaps what really got blown to hell was his ego.
  14. I have had a 12 gu CZ Bobwhite (English stock, side x side, double trigger, extractors) for a couple of years. I like it a lot. It's functioned just fine. The action was very stiff when new, it's slowly loosened up a little. My understanding is that Benelli is the parent company of Stoeger and Franchi.
  15. I do shop some at Dick's but I keep it light. They do not compare to a "real" gunshop. The owner of my favorite shop was also a professional trapper. He kept irregular hours during the winter but it was worth it to walk in there and find him skinning out a beaver in the middle of the shop. Unfortunately, he passed on.
  16. Actually, that will cut it for deer. If you can hit an 8" pie plate then you're good to go. Also, a lot of sporter weight rifles will group 2" to 4" at that range.
  17. Virgil, Apparently you need some enlightenment. I'll likely be a bit random here so please bare with me. When the creators of the Constitution wrote it, they were escaping tyranny, remember England and the King? Their intent was to ensure that they and future generations would be safe from it by having the ability to fight tyranny. To ensure that the majority will rule. The 1st and 2nd amendments are in that order for a reason. Unfortunately, they didn't mention hunting but why would they. Are we considering an amendment today to guarantee our right to go to the grocery store? English and Australian gun owners didn't ban together against the "non-hunting" gun bans. Eventually their rights to "hunting guns" were severely restricted as well. Go to the website www.thehuntinglife.com. At first I enjoyed reading about their different ways of hunting and game to hunt. As I read the site more and read between the lines, it made me want to puke. They worry about the power of their standard .177 & .22 air rifles. If they pass a certain arbitrary power level, they have to be registered. They tip toe around being very concerned about discretion. Don't want to offend anyone with noise or "unpleasant" hunting scenes, the antis are just looking for something to bitch about. England needed to change its laws so that its pistol shooters could practice in country for the upcoming Olympics. Have you ever considered how effect the whacos would be with these mass shootings if it were more mainstream for Americans to carry? Do you think the Virginia Tech shooter would have been able to kill 30+ people if just one or two of the people in the vicinity were carrying? Shooting back if a rather effective crime fighting tool. Excessive gun laws only impede our rights, the people that will actually obey the law. As you can likely guess, I think the gun laws in NY State are excessive. Why so? Vermont, our neighbor, has no pistol permit system. Where's their crime waive? Stupid gun laws are even more annoying. Do you realize that one of the items that can be used to define a gun as an assault weapon in NY is a bayonet stud? Where are all these people running around bayoneting one another to death? Cosmetics are used to describe the "assault weapon" because there is no functionality difference between a hunting semi-auto and an "assault weapon". They're both just semi-autos so the black scary ones had to be differentiated somehow. Have you heard of the Armenian Genocide, that little incident in history that Turkey won't admit to? I find it hard to believe that the extermination of 1.5 million people could be called anything else. Surely you've heard of the Holocaust that resulted in the death of 6 to 12 million. Bet they wished that they had guns to fight back with, particularly the kind with 30 round clips. In more recent history, there was Pol Pot. He took out 26% of the Cambodian population. He mostly focused on the educated so you'd have been safe. There are several incidences going on in various places in Africa now. Things like women and kids getting an arm or both arms hacked off with machetes. May our country never experience such atrocities but the only way to guarantee our continued stability is by maintaining our 1st and 2nd amendments. OK, I've vented enough for now.
  18. Now, here's the problem with the whole concept. While I'd be struggling to recall & interpret the law in an effort to ensure I followed it, the friggin' burgler would make off with all of my stuff and have time to hit the fridge on the way out.
  19. Did you catch the part that she was on the phone with 911 for a total of 21 minutes? A blatant example of the need for self-reliance. .
  20. Walther, S&W, Taurus, Ruger all have similar "slim" pistols. Some are definitely lighter.
  21. Doc, I have used the army canteen cup w/ stand for trioxane pellets. They've gotten pricey, bout $5 for three and it takes 2 to 3 to heat some stew and tea. The Kelly Kettle just uses twigs, pine cones or whatever's handy to make a small fire.
  22. Great history of your camp. Love the full gun rack in the one photo.
  23. The photo didn't attach so here's another try at it.
