  1. If all pro-gunners move to Texas, it's only a matter of time until it's the Alamo all over again. Neat story but everyone inside ended up dead. I'm running on the "don't let the bastards win" plan.
  2. loworange88, You do realize that I was joking.? They copied and pasted language from one section of the bill to another. Ammo does not have serial numbers on it and never has. So the ones who wrote the law either did a crappy job or they are really that clueless. In either case, it would be unacceptable for most of us to produce such garbage at our jobs.
  3. My understanding is the law has to do with tracking ammunition sales. I had it open and used the "find" command to search is for "bullets", "powder", "primer", "brass" and "reload". The only hit was in reference to black powder firearms. I think that in the end we'll find that it doesn't restrict reloading supply purchases. Hope I'm right on that and if I am I'll wonder if it was left out of the law because it was inadvertently overlooked or if they figured crazy people are somehow incapable of reloading. I searched "manufacture" as well. Didn't see anything that seemed related to reloading your own shells. Did see some additional stupidity in the law. They copied and pasted language from the firearms section on information to be recorded (name, model, calibre and serial number, or if none any other distinguishing marks) and pasted in the new section on ammunition sales. This demonstrates the rushed state that this law was tossed together in. Or perhaps they were thinking ahead in the hopes that micro-stamping will pass someday. Gun shops will need to purchase a microscope to comply with the law.
  4. I called Senator's Marchione's a few minutes ago. The signature count is over 60,000. Not bad for a couple of days.
  5. Did you watch the membership counter on the lower right? It was up around 4,379,000. That's an increase of about 280,000 since the stuff hit the fan.
  6. This is from the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association website. Basic message "be patient" and the NRA is involved. "NYSRPA, in co-operation with the NRA, are having the Cuomo law reviewed by a highly qualified legal team. We ask that no other 3rd party legal action be taken without prior consultation. We realize that this law impacts a large number of people, but a proper legal review will take some time. Please do not call or e-mail the office or directors. If/when there is an announcement on this issue, it will be published on our website. Thank you for your understanding."
  7. http://www.nysenate.gov/webform/stand-second-amendment-standing-new-york-state-senator-kathleen-marchione Senator Kathy Marchione has started a petition on her NY Senate site to repeal this bull. I think it has a much better chance than the impeachment petition, which ain't good but it feels good to sign it.
  8. This infighting is a non-productive waste of time. I did my best. I have contacted my state legislators with letters and multiple calls, including Cuomo. Better yet I've inspired several friends to contact their legislators and a few that weren't members to join the NRA. Now it's time to focus on the Federal situation by following up letters that I've mailed with phone calls and more letters. I will also continue to inspire my friends. That's what everyone should be doing. Whining because Wayne himself hasn't shown up to personally give you a hug is pitiful.
  9. http://www.nysenate.gov/press-release/breaking-news-attempted-gun-burglary-tied-journal-news-gun-maps http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/04/law-enforcement-latest-critics-on-public-display-gun-owner-data-officers/?intcmp=obinsite And the repercussions for the Journal New's stupidity have begun.
  10. Went to Saratoga today. Had a big crowd for a Sunday but plenty of room to move around and finding parking didn't take long. Saw my dream ranch rifle, stainless with black composite stock, but its more of dream than ever. Stickered for $1200. That's probable 50% more than it was a few months ago. Cuomo and Obama will be coming off my Christmas card list for this.
  11. No sense preaching to the quoir. I posted this link on Facebook. Time to try and educate the ignorant.
  12. Jmac491, I think you need to put a little more thought behind your boycott idea. Sounds like it will do no more than tickle the anti-hunters pink.
  13. I've sent letters to all of my NY and Federal legislators including Cuomo. I've also called my NY legislators. My conscious will be at ease but my heart won't if this all swings the wrong way.
  14. A fellow from ATI emailed to thank me for my input and said he'd forward it to the appropriate manager. Real funny Machinist. I think that stock will be staying put for a while.
  15. Put an ATI stock on my Ithaca 37. I expected it to bolt on nice and easy. My buddy had a nice happy experience with his Winchester and one of their stocks. Here's the email that I just sent them. "I received a stock that I ordered last friday. I was expecting it to bolt on considering that it was made for my gun. I had several fitting issues to overcome. 1. Had to file some on the internals of the rear stock to be able to fit the pieces together with the stock bolt started. 2. head of stock bolt was rubbing against the internal space so I couldn't get a 7/16 socket on it per directions. was able to tighten it with a screwdriver. 3. stock bolt bottomed out in threads and stock was still loose. Remedied this by adding 3 flat washers under the stock bolt head. 4. The rear adapter on the fore stock had no cut out for the connecting rod so I cut it out myself. 5. Tightened forestock all the way and it was still loose. Remedied this by fabricating a spacer about 1/8" thick out of pvc pipe. In the end, the stock fits well and works but I really didn't expect to have to put this much effort into it. You owe me 27 cents for the washers." Anyway, it will be interesting to see what their response will be.
  16. Lifer here. The NRA has an easy pay life option. No interst and no fees. Details on their website.
  17. tony m, Thank you. I'm planning to attend the sportsmen's march on Albany this spring for the first time. I can do OK in person though my wife has diagnosed me as having Asperger's.
  18. Yeah, had to especially watch for the coughing cows in the spring when they were first out on fresh grass and their poop was loose.
  19. I hope folks in the gun community are taking the time to contact their legislators, both federal and state. I've written some letters and it feels really good to drop them in the mail box. I keep mine short and sweet. Mostly, I think the politicians, more like their aids, are counting the pros and cons versus spending the time to really think about what a letter is saying. I've also heard that letters carry more weight than emails and phone calls. Not sure why as it doesn't take much more effort to produce a letter.
  20. Had a quaranteed job growing up on a family dairy farm. Paula's fear is rational. Had a cow get me once after laying with her tail right in the gutter slop. She stood up, swung it, and caught me right across both eyes. My dad found that far too amusing. Now I'm a Civil Engineer doing civil/site work. Been very fortunate to have worked all but 4 weeks in the last 26 years. My dream job requires a sizeable lottery win, unfortunately. I'd get a nice sized chunk of land to manage for game animals, dig a few ponds, build stuff like a cabin and smoke house, buy tools to putter around fixing things like antique tractors and trying to make a better mouse trap.
  21. I still plan to go. There can be no confrontation as I will ignore any protesters. I will not talk to any reporters either. I'm not interested in having any statement that I should make edited to be taken out of context. Going to the show is my silent little f'u to them. From what I read in the paper this morning, it sounds like there won't be any ARs. Wonder if the show organizers buckled or if the various dealers were sold out anyway. No matter, I don't have the funds for one at the moment.
  22. Check out www.varmintal.com for his bi-fur pod. It's sized for sitting. I made one and find it to be plenty stable and it doubles as a walking stick in the slippery spots.
  23. Thanks but I joined last summer after dealing with the silly hassle regarding my pistol permit. I left a message hoping to get some advice but got no reply. Fortunatley I was able to resolve the issue on my own.
