Being one that likes to fire up a hot lunch and tea during my hunting forays, Santa was nice enough to drop off a Kelly Kettle this year. Tried it out in the back yard and it does what it's suppose to, boils water in about 5 minutes. I also got the cook kit with it. It uses a much smaller fire than is needed for heating a can or army canteen cup over an open fire.

Is this a problem - dual purpose rifle?
jusputtn replied to nybuckboy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
My thoughts. You've got it figured out. ;-) -
I use a Bushnell air gun scope. Its parallax adjustable. Got it so I could keep the target and crosshairs in focus on a 50ft indoor range. Works great for hunting also.
-
My Bushnells work just fine, rifle Scopes, binocs & a spotting scope. @

Call Pennsylvania's version of the DEC and ask.

Stands & ladders/climbing sticks are made of hollow square tubing. How do you inspect the inside of the tubing? I know moisture gets in there & there's no paint there. I pull mine to minimize rusting that I can't see.

Neither. I'm not in favor of AR's. I think the buck take should be based on wildlife biology. If the population can only handle 1 buck per year, fine. If it can handle several, cool, though I don't know what I'd do with all that deer meat. I trust that the DMP's would still be given out based on the same theories that they are today.

Thanks again for the info. I didn't realize that it's a direct ratio. I used to hunt with compounds, 10+ years ago. Now my son wants to get a bow, he's almost 11. So what am I to do when he's shooting (that was my excuse to get a .22 cal air rifle ). Looking to simplify and try some instinctive shooting with a used bow to keep the start up cost down.

OK, my draw length is about 26". What's the calc for weight reduction?
-
Thanks. For some reason, that number eluded my Googleing.
-
Recurves are usually stamped with a draw weight. At what draw length though?

You must be physically unable to move about except with the use of a mechanized aid such as a wheel chair for a permit to shoot from a motor vehicle. Pg 16 of the syllabus.

I expect your right SIT, this will likely generate several pages of "discussion". I expect Moe could adjust his methods a little and remain legal. Site from the truck, park down the road a bit & then stalk back. Or pick a site for a ground blind that he could drive close to.

the hunter ed (gun) course is a minimum 12 hours. Though there are some instructors trying out a "home study" program. For it you have to read the book and fill out all of the questions in the back and then spend 8 hours in the classroom.

If you could manipulate the bolt with the safety on, would you point the gun at anyone while doing so? Don't think so, so no worries.

There seems to be more of a desire for "pre "64 Winchesters". There are some features such as a positive feed claw extractor on the earlier models. http://www.shootersforum.com/rifles-rifle-cartridges/39615-winchester-model-70-build-date.html This link has year/serial number listings in one of the posts. Outside of that, you should be able to google and get an idea of what it's worth.

Any calls that I own (predator, squirrel, grunt...) I bought because that's what I happened to find in the local sporting goods stores. Just wondering if any of you go to a particular brand name. If so, is there any particular reason?

Nice. I've had a few chickadee and squirrel encounters but not a grouse.

Trigger Adjustment on a Remington 700 .308
jusputtn replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I adjusted my 700's trigger this year. Google'd up directions & found them to be similar to the instructions to adjust my 541T. Funny thing is the 541T was advertised to be adjustable so why not the 700? Anyway don't try to set it too light & do the tests to ensure it's functioning properly. -
Squirrel hunting in the greater Capital District area
jusputtn replied to waltny's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
My understanding is reds are aggressive & will push greys out. So shoot all the reds & see what happens over the next few years . -
I ages. Saw 4 bucks between 8 & 12 on the 12th, while Turkey hunting of course. Two came to me to see what I was. The more time out the better. So if you can hunt all day, great. If not, get what time in you can.

You're not required to be tied off when working on/climbing a ladder per OSHA. I think it's the same thing for a line man climbing a utility pole with the steps on it. Best thing to do every time is take a step back, look at the ladder/climbing stick and think before going up. Hopefully you'll spot anything amiss and avoid rushing up the thing.

I happen to use a 210 gr. jacketed hollow core in my 44. Why? Beats me, guess because it's what was on the dealers shelf when I first worked up the load. IMHO, the bigger concern is that you put the bullet where it needs to go. An entrance hole only or and entrance/exit hole won't matter with a good shot as the deer won't be going far. I've taken two deer with mine. One was a spine shot, not something to be proud of but a very effective "miss" of the vitals. The other was through the body. Don't remember if it exited but the deer laid down and died within sight. Also I highly recommend wearing hearing protection while hunting with one. I wear plugs and muffs while target shooting mine.

Others explanation: I have a 243 and a 308. Caliber of preference depends on my mood for the day.

Nice job.
