Sorry I was in my stand not seeing deer this morning so I posted something I found interesting my bad it won't happen again.
-
I just heard the first gun shot this morning.
-
Just wondering what time of day do you think most deer are taken. I know morning then evening are the best time periods but what are your guesses on specific times if ya had to guess.
-
Its raining now and im sitting in my stand wondering the something.
-
No idea it was around. Him and a 8 and 6 point walked by him 3 times that morning. He had a bad front leg injury thinking he might of been hit by a car. He was pretty sickly. Best part was I chose not to sit that stand that morning.
-
Buddy shot this one opening day. First deer he saw.
-
Got out good and early... problem was so did some dogs with the same idea. Back at it tonight though.
-
Best bet is to use the wind to your advantage.
-
The scent of fox urine. I don't know anyone personally who uses boot scent. Also don't know anyone who puts it on themselves either as usually its used sparingly around the stand.
-
My dad put moth balls in his blind over the summer to keep the critters out. I didn't know about it till I sat in it yesterday while squirrel hunting. Boy did it smell though. How will this effect deer and coyote hunting this season? I left the door and windows open because the smell was almost unbearable but I can't stand the slightest odor of them.
-
The fox scent isn't an attractant its used to put an animal at ease.

Thanks for moving my post to the appropriate forum. I looked not sure how I missed it.

I'm taking my trapping course this weekend, finally found a course being given right down the road from me. I was wondering how many of you guys trap. I plan on starting this season and I know it's going to be a lot of learning as I go and trial and error but it'd be nice to have some people to reference who know a thing or two because I personally don't know anyone who traps.

So are the dec keeping them out of new york or do they just not move up?
-
We're planning to take a trip to benezette pa to see some elk and it got me thinking with the trip only 115 miles away why aren't there any elk in ny?
-
No problem.

Either way I would really think twice about leaving a stand or camera on any public land. On this site alone I've heard of people property being stolen even on private land. I got a tree climber and it only weighs 16lbs. It goes in with me and out every time.

Looking like 30 day rule and doesn't harm trees is the answer

I also found this Permanent tree stands are prohibited. However, a tree stand or blind is allowed, provided that it does not injure any trees, is properly marked or tagged with the owner's name and address or valid hunting or fishing license number, and is placed and used during big game season, migratory game bird season, or turkey season, but no more than thirty days in one location per calendar year.
-
Temporary, portable tree stands and hunting blinds may be placed at Hunting Areas beginning on the first day of pre-season scouting (14 days prior to opening day of deer season). All tree stands and blinds must be marked with the user’s name, Access Permit number, and telephone number. Tree stands and hunting blinds must not damage trees and must be removed at the end of the season.

I put a cam out a few hundred yards behind my house just for fun and for two days I had two 6 points on cam almost every hour on it during the day. http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n62/robc157/PICT00262.mp4
