I would like to use my garand for deer hunting this year. Without changing anything on the gun, what bullet would anyone recommend to use without bending the ejector rod. Thank you for any assistance.

As I am getting older and my glasses getting stronger, using iron sights on my Garand for hunting is getting harder. I need help in selecting a good base and scope for this weapon. Thank you for any assistane

Have been thinking of using my M1 for hunting. Have heard that I will have to replace the gas plug in order to shoot Remington 150 core lokt bullets. Have been looking at the Garand gear replacement plug. Has anyone used this plug with good results? Thank you for any assistance.

How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?
pointman replied to DirtTime's topic in General Hunting
I own and hunt on 17 acres. Have different areas on property that I switch to daily. Property has been productive for past 10 years. -
I use my Remington 740 30-06 that my dad passed to me years ago.

I am 73 years old and I wear glasses and have hearing aids in both ears. Not really the way I like to hunt with bow and gun but it is better then being a couch potato. Been doing it this way for past 10 ears.

Have a 7R would like to trade for 4G

I also have an omega and use the same powder. I had a problem in the past and found that the breech plug port was somewhat clogged. I remedied this by using a small piece of wire thru the hole to clean it out and then test fired with primer only. Never had a problem since. Hole this helped.

Hunter/Game Warden relationships

The only incident I ever had with DEC officer was back in 1970. I was an off duty police officer at the time and was hunting in the Ithaca area. It began to snow very heavy and decided to stop hunting. I unloaded my shotgun and proceded to walk on a dirt road heading toward my vehicle. On this road I hear a vehicle approaching me with a DEC officer inside. He stopped alongside me and asked for my license. I said you got to be kidding. He said he was not. I complied but asked him to get of the vehicle if I was going to get wet so should he. He got out, checked my license and left. -
I also have a fear of heights. Have somewhat conquered it . I have 2 15'ladder stands on my property which I use. I have a safety rope on each and before I climb up I am attached by harness and stay attached until both feet are back on the ground. I don't think of the height while on the stand because the fear of falling is not there anymore. This helped me, maybe this will help you.

I just purchased a crossbow and in the package was a pack of 100 gain Killzone broad heads. I have used Rage heads on my compound bow and they fly like field points. Does anyone know if the Killzone does the same? Thanks for any assistance.
-
I have been using a compound bow for deer hunting 10 plus years now. Have read a lot of pro and con articles in allowing crossbow usage in the hunting seasons. This am, I am going to see for myself first hand all about crossbows at the Rip Van Winkle Gun Club. I am going with an open mind and decide for myself.

In the past two years I have seen on nearby State land a large amount of acorns on the ground from oak trees. Have thought about raking them up and using them in the area that I hunt on. Since I feel I would be baiting , so I have not done so. Just my thought.

I make several of my own wooden seats that I chain strap to a tree. I position them in several spots on my property. I carry a stadium seat to each location. Can sit comfortably for hours.

Have 15 acres in 4G in rear of my house which backs up to 2500 acres of state land.

In 1956, when Is started hunting with my dad, it was a rule of his, that we wear red anytime we used a gun for any hunting. Later on, orange became to color of choice. To this day I still abide by that rule even though he is not here anymore. Now I got a new hunting partner ,my grandson, following to orange rule.

I started hunting at age 14, after talking my dad into buying me a shotgun and taking me out hunting with him. Well here I am, 59 years later, still to this day looking forward to going out into the woods. The nice thing right now is that my oldest grandson accompanies me. How much better can it get.
