  1. Friday morning I had the best and worst morning all season. Right after daylight I started seeing Deer. I was counting. 23 sightings. Some may have been doubles , they were everywhere. Does running Small Bucks chasing. Alot of action. About 8:45 I saw a nice sized Buck out in the Hardwoods at about 200 yds. Picked up the Grunt tube gave 2 short grunts and he headed my way. I watched as he got closer and closer.A very nice 6 Pt, I would guess 3 1/2 years old, pretty good mass. He ended up 22 yds in front of me. Ended up with his butt to me. He was sniffing where 4 Doe had just been, I watched for about 3 or 4 Minutes he would not give me a shot. He started heading away, I gave a short grunt he stopped at 28 yds hard quartering away. I shot, Heard the arrow hit. He took off. After 20 minutes I climbed down. No blood and no arrow. My hunting partners showed up and we started looking in the direction he was last seen. We searched from 10:00 till 3:30 , No sign of him. we looked at skid marks no blood. I was feeling terrible. In ten years of Bowhunting I have only lost one Doe. Didn't sleep well Went out looking for 6 hours Saturday, nothing. This morning I went out, It was very cold and all I had seen was one Doe. About 10:30 I had had enough, I stood up and saw a big bodied buck out in the scrub, He was limping, picked up the binoculars and he had 6 Pts and a wound on his right shoulder. I must have hit right in the shoulder bone. Hopefully he will be back. I feel better knowing he made it.
  2. Just throw it out. Dig into your pocket and buy another dozen. Saving money is not worth a very bad injury.
  3. Today I was out on an all day sit. I wouldn't get your hopes up yet. I saw 5 Doe and a very nice 6 pt. All were just wondering around feeding. No chasing and no signs of anything. A very quiet relaxing day in the woods.
  4. I'm not sure if it is legal to have Field Points while hunting. I think you have to have small game tips like Judos. I have 5 arrows 2 with fresh sharpened Slick Tricks, 2 with older heads and 1 Judo tip. All 5 are within 3 grains.
  5. I shot Rage 2 blades for 3 years. Last year I had a bad shot on a doe and lost confidence in them. This year I switched to Slick Trick Viper Tricks. I am totally satisfied with these. 3 Doe in the freezer. Excellent blood trails and none have gone more than 50 yards.
  6. This is my go to stand. It is 6' by 10' 25' up. It was built when my kids were first starting out Bowhunting. It was the perfect place to teach young hunters the correct ways, while being supervised. 3 young hunters learned the basics here(2 sons and thier best friend). Each one took thier first Deer out of this stand. It has brought me years of enjoyment. It is situated on a hedegrow with Pines and Hardwoods in front and a Food Plot behind. If it is raining, cold or the wind is right I will hit this stand for all day sits. Its big enough to get up and walk around undetected. Being able to strech my legs makes it possible to stay longer. Since it was built in 2004, 28 Deer have been taken here. 7 were Bucks. The largest an 8 Pt scoring 124" All 3 boys hunted until college Now only thier friend Adam has time. Adam has been out 4 times this season,no luck so far. I'm hoping all 3 will return to thier roots after College. My oldest graduates next year.
  7. It's always worth the wait. It was 3 years for me. Congrats

29 in the soutern tier, That should get everyting moving
  9. First let me tell you my situation. I shoot year round,Indoor 3D and 5 Spot,Outdoor field archery out to 80 yards.I live in the woods 1000 ft off the road The nearest house is 1/4 mile away. Now the story. On Monday there was no work, I went out early to my favorite stand saw 7 Doe no shots.Came in for lunch, took a nap. Overslept got dressed and was headed out at 4:00 pm. Grabbed my Bow took 2 steps off the front porch and there were 3 Doe in the yard at I guessed 50 yards.1 small 1 medium and a mature Doe. They just looked at me, I slowly pulled out the rangefinder and 52 yds. I just stood there(didn't want to spook them) They just stood there eating some unmowed lawn. I took an arrow out of the quiver, nocked it ( no movement from the Deer) I drew settled my 50 yd pin on the mature Doe and pulled the trigger. Thwack . Instantly I thought that was stupid. The Doe took off. I slowly walked to where she had been and there was the arrow, a clean pass through, Bright red blood. I waited about an hour. About 20 feet from where I found the arrow the first drop of blood as I tracked they became closer, After 20 yds there was blood everywhere. I found her 60 yds from where I shot her . Heart shot. Now keep in mind I practice alot and still was not 100% sure of this shot. I was on almost level ground the deer were not alarmed
  10. Just got done wraping and fletching some arrows. The Arrows are all weight mathed + or - 2 grains. Easton Flatline 400 I joined a league at Traditions Archery in Henrietta. They have a real nice indoor range to 30yds I'm pretty sure alot of Bowhunters on this site shoot leagues. We should have a forum for them.
  11. 3 years ago I decided not to shoot any young Bucks. It's been hard but I have held strong. Last Saturday on an all day sit I saw 17 Deer only 3 were Does. A huge 8 pt, 2 good sized 6 pts, a very nice smaller 8 pt and the rest were Spikes . Doe eat very well and I just can't see using tags on young Bucks. If only my neighbors would get on board maybe we could get some real trophies off this hill.
  12. I am right handed and was right eye dominant. When I was 23 I lost the use of my right eye, After alot of practice I mastered shooting left handed. Since then I have won many trophy bow shoots and harvested Deer whenever they get close enough. Remember you have to play the cards you are dealt. Things happen but life goes on.

  14. I.m shooting a Z 28 and love it. I went to Traditions in Henrietta and tried one. Ordered mine on the spot. After setting it up and shooting 3 rounds ( 15 ) arrows I robin hooded at 20 yds. Its fast quiet and very accurate
  15. All of these were great. Lets all remember safety. I bought a new ladder stand 21 foot, I had never thought much about safety harnesses, this year I used one and the 4th time I was in that stand the top ratchet strap came loose and I fell The tether caught me. I grabed the ladder with my leg and pulled myself to it. Ended up cutting the tether and climbed very slowly down, The next day I went and bought a new harness. My lesson learned was NEVER climb without a harness.
  16. If you are near Auburn Bass Pro go in and see Cody. He is the best I have ever dealt with.
  17. Wow was it cold, 21 degrees. I went to my stand around 6:00 am. The silence was so peacefull. As daylight broke there were no sounds. At 6:55 I looked towards the pines and the biggest buck I have ever seen stepped out at 30 yds, I reached for my Bow and he turned and stopped and stared right at me, after about 10 seconds of us staring each other down, he turned to walk away I grabbed the Bow hooked the release gave a brr he stopped, right behind a large maple, no shot, he then walked away into the thick hardwoods.Needless to say I was all warmed up. This all took place in a 40 ft wide opening. If I had been holding my Bow maybe it would have turned out better. I sat till 11:00 there were Deer everywhere, 7 Doe all small. At 2:00 went back out and there was a big Doe under my stand, after 20 mins she walked off. As the afternoon went on there were 11 more Doe and 3 Bucks. The 6 pt was a shooter but after seeing the hog in the morning I'm going to wait it ouy. All in all this is why I hunt
  18. Normally on this property I will see between 10 and 20 Deer every morning. This year so far I have not seen anything big enough to even think about shooting.Out of 11 on stands I have not seen anymore than 4 Deer at a sit.
  19. This morning was very slow. 2 small Doe at around 8:00. At 9:30 I saw a Deer at 150yds, Didn't know if it was a Buck or Doe. Picked up the can and gave a good Bleat , He spun and headed right for me. Came within 25 yds A nice little 4 Pt. Then he headed into the pines ,I grunted and he came right out at 18 yds. He hung around for about 5 mins and started away. another grunt and back he came. This went on for about 30 mins. It was quite enjoyable playing with him. If he makes through till next year he will be a good looking 2 1/2 year old.
  20. I have helped 3 young men learn to Bowhunt ( my 2 sons and thier best friend ). The thrill of them getting thier first Bow kill is actually better than me getting one.

    Bow Tags

I have a question about some of the tags I got on my Super Sportsman License. I have a BOW/MZ Season either sex tag and a BOW/MZ Antlerless tag. I'm wondering if I can use those during the regular Bow season or if they can only be used in the late archery/ MZ season?
  22. I e-mailed this morning, Had a response by 3:00 this afternoon. Ed told me the log and information were in the mail already. [email protected]
  23. When my sons were beginning to hunt, I set a 12 foot ladder stand in our yard., Then a Buck 3-D target at 23 yds. They shot and shot until there was no kill zone left. That year they both took nice Deer ( big doe and 6 pt) They both told me they picked a spot and let it go. Both Deer were easy recoveries,There is no better way to feel confident when a Deer is in range.
