  1. Y'all ready for this? About 7 years ago I landed this hog, weighed in at 9lbs. Caught it on a 8" Huddleston Swim Bait, everyone who saw me fishing with it thought I was crazy. As much as it pained me, this was Catch and Release. I present to you, my PB.
  2. That's nice to know! I've been trying to go every evening as I have one doe n' buck tag left to fill!
  3. Ugh, it's one of the worst feelings ever! All that time invested in going out, freezing my ass off, hungry, all to spook a deer I have waited days for. The... worst...
  4. 4:30pm is usually when I get to my spot and start my "patrol".
  5. Good to know. Just picked up some 8x42mm Vortex glass from amazon. Ya'll are a wealth of information! Becoming a proficient hunter is not easy when your only mentor is google....
  6. Lesson learned, what seems like common sense after reading what you wrote definitely did not cross my mind at that moment. Just one more reason I need to pick up some glass, thank you.
  7. No need to try to justify your reason by trying to make others look less than your own.
  8. I plan on passing this skill along to my children one day, hopefully breaking the cycle
  9. I think it's just shear persistence. I live right on the boarder of Stewart State Forest so I go out every day around 4pm. Thanks for the words! Savage 220, loaded with rem accutips. I have to imagine the internal mangling would have been extensive? LOL, great story man. Really cheered me up. Let's hope, learn by trial and error ... right? I don't know if this makes much sense but looking through my scope aloud me to see everything much clearer. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my eyes or if this is normal when using optics. I believe the shot would have been safe but in the end it wasn't meant to happen so who knows! Appreciate the kind words, I'm trying very hard this season.
  10. 34, always fished never thought about hunting. The organic meat is what sucked me in! Didn't see a single deer last year, got a doe so far this year.
  11. Spooked 2 bucks so far this season. 1st -I was in a blind, opening day, around 8am I hear leaves moving to my left. I slowly move my head to see a nice 8 point buck walking right towards my blind, he's about 15 yards away. I grab my gun, safety off, slowly move my rifle to a cutout in the blind, I gently rest it on the cutout and it makes a very slight noise. Buck instantly spooked, bounded off into the woods snorting like a mad man. 2nd(tonight) -I was walking a long stretch of field, its about 4:50pm, almost dark and can barely see. I turn around to head back, instinctively I look to my right and see a black object moving, put my scope on it and its a buck! To my dismay its a head on shot only. As I wait for a broadside it must have winded me and ran away without even a snort. I've read many time that a head on shot wrecks a good portion of the animal. Since I'm in this for the meat and not the trophy I waited to take my shot. Anyone else have any spooked buck stories they want to share? Opinions on my fluck ups welcomed. Disclaimer: this is my second year hunting, first year I saw nothing, this year I've tagged one doe and spotted the above bucks. 3M
  12. access to cheap and organic meat
  13. No reason to drink or smoke while I hunt, all my senses need to be on point. Would think any other logical hunter would feel the same. Dulling the senses while trying to kill something just seems stupid.
  14. I also hunt 3M, semi new to the area and new to hunting in general. Just dropped off my first doe at Quaker Creek Store. My uncle has used them for many many years and swears by them.
  15. And if she's not okay then I'm dead, lol. Thanks everyone, I feel much better now. I learned a lot during this process and I look forward to gettn back out asap to fill up the rest of my tags! Shot her right in the spine, dropped like a sack of rocks.
  16. I was going to drop this one off at the butcher next week. The next one I harvest I plan on butchering myself. True, it's just really hard to find info on this for some reason. I have quickly learned to remove the liver once the gut sac has been *removed from the deer first... Thank, the adrenaline rush was nothing like anything I have experienced before. I am addicted. I just want to make sure I'm not going to make my wife or I sick. Thanks for the link, reading up now.
  17. Indeed they do have a bile sac, right next to the liver.
  18. I adjusted my post accordingly. There is a possibility the tenderloins are ruined, no?
  19. First Time Poster First Time Hunter First Deer Broke the Bile Sac while gutting the whitetail. After gutting the animal I poured a pot full of cold in the stomach cavity to wash out the mess. The people around me are telling me the meet is ruined, yet I cannot find anything online to confirm that. Thoughts? Did I just <insert colorful language here> my first kill?
