  1. Sadly, the lives of every one are now changed forever. I have hunted for many years and NEVER observed a animal that looked remotely like a human form even if dress in full blaze orange or full camo. People and animals NEVER look the same. Bottom line is that this was a careless act and should have never happened... Thoughts and prayers to the families involved....
  2. Last Valentine's Day I proudly gave my wife a "Diamond" bow and she has practiced since. Last week we took a short "shake down" walk through the wood to test equipment and gain some woods time.. Well, Sunday we went hunting on a small plot of public land in our area. After a slow stalk into the wooded area that look like a prime feeding and bedding area we set up on the ground and began to watch the sunrise. Very shortly after that I observed a large doe and small buck walking directly at us. I watch as the shock, surprise and wonderment came upon my wife's face. I was only a few yards away and watched as she readied herself for a possible shot and studied the closest doe. Unfortunately the doe turned away within 40 yards, was behind some dense brush and a shot never developed. But the excitement of a close encounter with that deer and my wife's reaction were priceless. She said after she could feel her heart thumping in her chest and was so excited. She can't wait to try again and it didn't result in a harvest but it will always be a great hunting memory...... Kelly................best of luck in your furure hunts !!!
  3. New here myself and welcome aboard.. Dan
  4. A good bet would be the .243...get that young man started out right !! Good for the both of you and enjoy those days afield together as they fly by quickly...
  5. Nicely done ! My 8 year old daughter loves to go when she can; when my dog is away hunt testing she is known as the "bird dog" of the family.
  6. Sadly, I never got my lifetime; so I make the yearly trip on the day they first go on sale. Kind of a tradition after all these years, town hall and then post office for the duck stamp. Then just wait for hunting to begin. It is a good thing that salmon/steelhead migrations begin soon. All the fall activities come together .....kind of a special year as last year I got a "Diamond" bow for the wife and she completed her courses....so she will be venturing into the woods as well... What a romantic guy I am...last Valentine's Day we ventured to Gander Mountain and she was outfitted with a bow.....we now have a life size deer target in the back yard.. Good luck this season....................... Dan
  7. The rain predicted yesterday never happened. But last night it hammered and we got several inches. The woods and waterways were dry and this may just be the front that brings fall weather on it's heals.
