  1. A dog that attacks and bites people can be shot in self defense, a dog that attacks and kills livestock can be shot. Shooting a dog for any other reason is illegal in NY. Shooting dogs these days will land you in a world of shit almost as bad as shooting a person, the consequences will be dire if you are caught. Al
  2. Pawing around through my fishing tackle and found my old belt hanging worm-bait box, low tech by today's standards, worm fishing is what I started on when first learning to fish as a young boy and is still one of my favorite ways to relax and enjoy fishing. Al
  3. What I like about Rinella and his show is he actually goes "hunting" something that is missing a lot these days. To each their own but sitting in a blind with all the comforts of home shooting lured game is not hunting to me. Al
  4. Get yours at Sportsman Guide
  5. If you can see the evidence of a tick bite half the battle is won and treatment can start right away, most folks never know they were even bitten and it lets the disease take hold and manifest into a whole bunch of maladies and symptoms that are often misdiagnosed. I came down with it bad late last summer and never saw a tick or a bite bullseye. Do not have a clue when I contracted it but believe I had it for some time. The New York Outdoor News runs a full page ad time to time from a Lyme specialist Dr. listing a whole slew of symptoms Lyme disease can produce and I could check off on having most of them. In the beginning I attributed many of the symptoms to old age and just sucked it up and went on with life but things started getting so bad I was having a hard time doing anything physical. I suspected Lyme and requested a blood test and sure enough I had it. Within a few days of the Doxy regimen I started feeling better, today I feel pretty good and I am doing about as well as a 71 year old guy can be expected. Al
  6. Looks like an early Browning Hi Power 9mm Al
  7. Having worked in the Firearms business many years and being involved in the buying and selling of firearms numbering in the thousands I am well aware how the game is played. Lawdwaz's 452 has a couple of things going for it, first of all the CZ 452s have a large enthusiastic following because of their stellar reputation for quality and accuracy. Second the 452 is now a discontinued model. Condition is everything and this one looks to be pristine. The 17 H2 is a rare chambering and sought after for good reason. The 3X9 older style Leupold scope w/AO in itself is highly sought after and can bring high dollars and do no forget the rings. So all and all a very desirable high quality rimfire rifle. Al
  8. Old Advertisement, 452s have been discontinued since 2011 I think and maybe a bit longer for the HM2 452s.
  9. That is one nice rifle in probably the best Squirrel hunting round ever devised. I have a 452 Lux in regular 22LR, it is a shooter and one of my favorite practice rifles. I like the 452 models over the current 455s. The used 452s are going for between 5 and 6 hundred bucks bare, the quality of a mounted scope would add on to that., yours being chambered in the rare HM2 makes it worth more depending of course how much the buyer wants that chambering. There is one on Guns International listed for a grand and it has what I would consider to be a lower end BSA scope mounted on it. Al
  10. Has anyone seen you and Uptown Redneck in the same room? Al
  11. A real beauty, I call it "The Uncle Donald Special" by Magnum Research, a little gaudy for me but I bet it would be right up the Donald's alley.
  12. Doing some spring cleaning and found some new old stock, actually still teams up well with my Bows and Arrows all of which are pretty much vintage. My first hunting arrows were Port Orford cedar with these same Bear Razorheads but they were the epoxied on type. Al
  13. "The collar clinic is about as much help as sport dog, I wouldn't buy another sport dog." The Collar clinic has a pretty good reputation for fixing E and tracking equipment. The Sport Dog brand is where the problem is. Al https://www.collarclinic.com/repair-trade.html
  14. a I have been training hunting dogs for over 50 years and I believe the electronic training collar and the key is "when used properly" is the single greatest training device a dog trainer can have in their arsenal. Be well educated in their proper use before putting one on your dog. Al
  15. Breeding and natural ability are high on my list when it comes to a hunting dog. An animal's genetic makeup will determine it's hunting potential. How much of that potential good or bad that is actually achieved depends on the environment to which the dog is exposed. The definition of environment pertaining to this subject is how the dog is taken care of and fed, it's training and handling, and exposure to the game that is to be hunted. Al
  16. For the activities you are wanting to try I think looking into the North American Versatile Hunting Dog outfit would be a good place to start and get you pointed in the right direction. There are quite a few NY chapters. Al https://www.navhda.org/
  17. I always just wore camo and tried my best to not be outlined. If I do get out after Turkeys I will be using this poncho I picked up last summer, I got it for varmint calling and it seems to conceal pretty well, worked on a couple of Foxes ok. The best part is it is very light and can be carried in a big pocket or game bag and put on when you get on stand. Al
  18. Looks like a real shooter, good luck with her and give a report. Al
  19. There is no better way to test the build quality and recoil resistance of an optical sight than a shotgun firing slugs or heavy shot loads. Back when I worked in a gun shop mounting scopes on slug guns I had to send plenty of various optics back to the manufacturers for repair from failure to hold up. That was quite a few years ago and I expect optics are of much better quality today, personally if I were to go with anything it would be a high quality low power scope, IE Leupold. I am not a serious Turkey hunter so I went simple and reliable with a True Glow rib mounted adjustable open sight, not a lot of money, easy to mount and it works.
  20. Can't offer a whole lot of advice as I am not much of a Turkey hunter myself and have only connected a few times but I like your enthusiasm and sounds to me you are on the right track, wish you success. Al
  21. An experienced Airedale can take out most Varmints with ease if they can catch them. Dog-Varmint encounters and situations are varied, Skunks, Rats, Possums Weasels and the occasional Coon will sometimes get caught by the dog and killed on the spot. Many times the Coon are treed by the dog and I will shoot them, I had my young female Airedale tree three Coons last summer that were killing chickens. Fox and Coyotes will be run off by the dogs for the most part but there are always a few exceptions that try and push their luck. If they stay in sight long enough they will be shot and on a couple of occasions I dinged them and had to use a dog to track them down and they will finish things. I have a Fox right now looking for trouble and more than likely he will end up dead if he starts killing. I will set up with a Varmint call and that will be it. Al
  22. A good yard dog will go a long way on saving livestock losses from Varmints, raising poultry is ringing the dinner bell, it is an endless battle.
  23. Pygmy's 1966 Woodchuck tale brought back some good memories and especially of this Ruger 77 Varmint rifle in 220 Swift. If you were a Woodchuck or a Crow and I was setup in your field you would not be safe out as far as 500 yards and even a bit beyond. Not a raving beauty but boy does she shoot. 52 gr Sierra HP Match 3950 FPS Al
