  1. Irish Dexter Heifer calf with Mom and Dad.
  2. So I am going to assume your case prep was done properly pertaining to being clean and lubed. All you need to do is to get your hands on several good quality cases from another manufacturer and run them through your dies, that will tell you where the problem points to. If the different cases size normally you will know the first cases you used are the problem, if all case you try have a problem running through the die it is most certainly the die itself. Lee has a great warranty and service so just send them back to be replaced. I have several sets of Lee dies including a set in 223 Rem myself, I did up several thousand once fired "Lake City" crimped primer military cases and everything went perfectly fine producing some quality handloads. Al
  3. There is always the good old "Dog Butt Scoot" A side note as TP has become so valuable I had to prioritize what was stored securely and protected from theft.
  4. I do not get the I am too busy, have no time or it is not worth the bother. It is really not hard to set up a spot for a few emergency supplies, a corner in a closet, garage or cellar with room enough to place some sturdy shelving along with some decent plastic totes. A proper setup will hold an awful lot of canned and dry goods. A stash of canned goods, cereals, rice, flour, dry milk, dried beans, pasta, dry soup mixes and sugar keep well for long periods and are some of the main ingredients for meal recipes. Utilize these things from time to time for your regular meals and replace, it will never go to waste. Same deal for a garden, you do not need a huge plot of land to produce a lot of vegetables, one would be surprised at the amount of stuff that can be grown in just big pots. The wife has just a small garden that produces way more than we can use ourselves, we have been using the stuff frozen and canned all winter and still have quite a bit left. Al
  5. Top Of The Morning to All, the corned beef is slow cooking in the wood cook stove oven and will be ready for supper. And in case nobody knows Pygmy is no Pygmy, it is just a disguise, he is really a Leprechaun! Al
  6. Speaking for myself it is still normal for me to stock up essential items in case of some unforeseen mess. Around my neck of the woods it is usually something weather related, heavy snow or ice storms, severe wind-thunder storms and the power outages that can go along with them sometimes for days. Preparedness for food, heat, electricity, water, etc. are a must not only for me and the wife but also for the livestock here on the farm. Not only do they cover weather related problems I have run into but these same things will suffice for crap like this Corona baloney if things get out of hand. I loosely follow the basic Mormon way of being ready for various emergencies as listed below and also like I have mentioned several times on this board I am a big believer in the Boy Scout motto of being prepared and I mean prepared for any and everything, it goes a long way to having some peace of mind. Drinking water Financial reserves Important documents stored safely Longer-term supply of basic food items Medication and first aid supplies Three-month supply of food that is part of your normal diet Ways to communicate with family following a disaster Having some first aid training Al
  7. A few weeks ago I watched Steve Rinella do a Texas Aoudad hunt on his "Meateater" outdoor TV show. The terrain was open loose rocky scrub country with moderate hills. A couple of things stood out, these sheep blend into their surroundings almost perfectly, they are very hard to spot and are very wary. A lot of time was spent glassing with both binoculars and a spotting scope to pick them out so good quality optics are paramount. With the country being so open and those sheep having excellent eyesight getting real close to them will be tough, long shots are probably the norm. An accurate flat shooting light sporter that fires a caliber of moderate power will get the job done if you do your part. Lightweight boots with good rock traction soles along with being in good physical condition will make climbing that terrain much easier and go along way in making your hunt successful. Good luck to you, I hope you score on a big one. Al
  8. With the warm weather coming the Ticks will be emerging so the fun seems to never end.
  9. After this toilet paper shortage fiasco these paperless "Ass Blaster" toilets will be the next big thing!
  10. The top of my wood-coal cookstove is cast iron, it has to be wiped down with cooking oil from time to time the same as a fry pan to season or it will rust. I use regular pots and pans for cooking but cooking directly on the top can be done. I like using it for toast, way faster than the electric toaster. Al
  11. Ever wonder how many miles per hour a bullet travels? Here is a conversion chart that will give you an idea. The SR 71 Blackbird is considered to be the world's fastest plane gets up to around 2200 mph top speed which can outrun most of the bullets fired from today's sporting rifles. Al
  12. Attention Walmart shoppers, "don't forget to use Corona hygiene protocols to protect yourselves and others from the virus.
  13. Congratulations obtaining your new 7600 Remington, I have become a admirer of the cerakote epoxy type gun finishes, can go with most any color, they seem to be more durable than a blued finish and they will also basically rust proof your gun. For rust prevention on a regular blued finish I have found "Frog Lube" has been proven to be very reliable. Al
  14. And the band plays on with this never ending parade of foolishness that accomplishes zero other than to make things tougher and more expensive for law abiding firearm owners. Al
  15. As someone that has been running a forum for 20 years I do not believe that to be true, there are many subjects that require more than a few sentences to explain. You must have a problem when it comes to reading a book LOL! My suggestion to you is if a post is too long just do not read it. Al
  16. The Democratic party's platform is against just about every single thing my lifestyle consists of, for me it is a party of death by a thousand cuts. Start with the premise of this message forum which discusses and promotes the outdoor sports, hunting, fishing, trapping, shooting etc. Lets start with the anti gunners, the list is so long that I will just post the link. http://www.2acheck.com/the-boycott-list/nras-list-of-antis/ Now for the animal rights-anti hunting-fishing-trapping crowd, again a link to the top of the crop but there are many others. https://www.grandviewoutdoors.com/lifestyle/10-anti-hunting-organization Bottom line is these groups are against just about everything this board stands for and if they could snap their fingers and end it all they would! Of course the above is just the tip of the iceberg, if you belong to the NRA, believe in traditional marriage and are against abortion and illegal immigration, our Democratic Governor makes it plain you are not welcome here in NY State. How about the green new deal? I breed and raise a few beef cattle, they have to go because they fart too much greenhouse gas! No fossil fuels please, get rid of your chainsaws, mowers, tractor, motorcycles, truck and car. I partially heat with wood and coal, not allowed just put more clothes on! I have wasted enough of the board's bandwidth posting this stuff but the list of their "want to" bans is endless. I am not against any changes that are for the good so long as there is a viable cost effective solution in place to replace something bad first. Common denominator here is this is all Democrat platform proposals and like I said for me it is death by a thousand cuts, no way in Hell am I voting for any of them. I thank the Lord every day to have been allowed to have been born to live in this time period because the future for my lifestyle is looking pretty bleak. Al
  17. For me this was a pretty interesting book.
  18. I am not a fan of rubber boots, for me they are heavy and lack support, I only wear them in extremely wet conditions as in Coon hunting around and in swamps. In moderately wet conditions I like the compromise in Bean's Maine hunting boots, rubber bottoms and full lace up leather tops. For a lot of walking nothing beats upland bird hunting boots with enough room for a good thick pair of wool socks, those of good quality are lightweight and are so very comfortable with a lot of support and warm enough for the majority of hunting I do. I like those made from Kangaroo leather best, "Bean's", "Woods N Stream" and "Cabelas" produce some good ones. I also have a heavier pair of Redheads made of leather and ballistic nylon that are pretty good. They are worth the xtra care required with leather treatments like "Obenaufs" or "Snow Seal" to keep them pretty much waterproof and the leather supple for many years and miles of rough use. Al
  19. I use a Bohning one arrow at a time fletching tool, nothing fancy but it works well. Good rainy day project. Al
  20. Was involved with Coonhounds for many years, English Coonhounds were my breed of choice and I had some pretty good ones back in the day. Just a pleasure hunter for the most part but I did hit the competition circuit a bit just to see how well my dogs would fare against the hotshots, we did not do too bad. Some old photos of pups I bred raised and trained below and one of the "storm and strife" with a nice Redtick male. Al
  21. The Redline Airedales are a genetic throwback to the very early Airedales when many had a short smooth coat and the breed itself had a loose standard. 50 years ago they were almost bred out of existence by the show crowd who apparently favor longer coats but in recent years they have been showing up in litters from the old hunting lines. They are still somewhat rare and a very small percentage of the Airedale breed. I for one am glad to see a few of them still around and hope there always will be. Al
  22. Here is a 3D target that will make a range a bit different, not cheap though. Won't lose any arrows with this one.
  23. Absolutely none of them! Joe Manchin was once a possibility but he has shown almost all the time to vote against the constituents that he represents, Gutless! Al
