  1. No problems with nickel plating, my nickel plated Colt Python spent a lot of time soaking in white kerosene with no ill effects. Coleman Fuel which I think is a bit more refined than white Kerosene is also a good soak cleaner. Al
  2. I am sure they will be flapping their gums in front of the cameras shortly, they are busy concocting a scheme to try and lay the whole blame of these riots on President Trump! Al
  3. I had an old time Barber and Gunsmith both give me the same advice when it came to general cleaning of my grooming clipper blades and handguns. "Clear white Kerosene", get a Tupperware type container that your equipment will fit into, take the grips off the handguns and put the handguns into the container, cover them with the Kerosene and let them soak. All crud and dirt-powder residue easily come off with a toothbrush and soft bristle bore brushes, wipe down with a good micro fiber cloth and you are good to go. This method is for equipment made out of metal and it works great. The dirty Kerosene can be filtered through a coffee filter and be used over and over. Al
  4. Because of their relatively low numbers I would tend to think Fishers would be on the bottom of the Totem pole when it comes to the number of eggs of ground nesting birds eaten by the varmint community in the grand scheme of things. Foxes, Skunks, Coons, Possums, and Coyote all love eggs and will get their fair share. Back when I had my flock of Merriam's wild Turkeys they were raised free range for the most part. Once the Hens started up a nest and laying a clutch of eggs they would never walk directly to or from the nest. I noticed at feeding time the Hen would walk a couple of steps from her nest and fly out to the feeding area and eat. When done eating they would fly back to within a few feet of the nest and then settle back down to sit and incubate their eggs. Not positive why but I think is was a way to protect their nest and keep tracks and scent going and coming to the nest at a minimum. Al
  5. Pretty sad, I knew right away when this pandemic reared it's ugly head that the Democrats would go all out to figure ways to use it for any political gain against Trump they could conceive and true to form they are not letting me down. Al
  6. Back in my Coon hunting days I was acquainted with a fellow from Rome NY that I was in a Coon hunting club with. He not only Coon hunted with Blueticks he was also into Basset Rabbit Hounds big time and had some of the best hunting Bassets in the USA, his name is Frank Blockston. Last I knew he is still alive and kicking, and is still involved with his Bassets, the last contact info I have is listed below. Frank W Blockston Jr. 616 S GEORGE ST ROME, NY 13440 [email protected]
  7. Well I sure as Hell am not going to lose any sleep over that decision, everything thing else Trumps has done far and above outweighs that weak argument and the decision is still not set in stone. A far cry for what the Democrats would do to hunting and outdoor sports in general if they got the power to do so! Every single animal rights, anti gun and anti hunting group vote Democrat. One only has to look at California to see the Democrat's blatant anti hunting devastation policies to a once pretty decent hunting state. Al
  8. It is all about party platform for me and a President following through and getting it done. Pro NRA and a member Pro Religion Pro Second Amendment Pro strong military and law enforcement Pro Strong Borders Stop illegal immigration The Wall Cut Taxes Obeying the land's law and enforcing the law. Pro Life Pro Hunting Pro farming Pro traditional ammunition Pro energy Pro jobs and keeping them here. Pro America first across the board To name just a few. So far so good in my book policy is moving in or at least staying in a trajectory I like, as for the sideshow baloney about a bragging bombastic personality it does not mean shit to me even a little bit!, it is all about results and actually doing what you are elected to do. Al
  9. It is always best to try and match your scope to the caliber and the type of hunting you will be doing. You have stated that your Savage 308 will be used for short range woods hunting and your Mini 14 will be used for long distance shooting. I would take the Nikon 3X9 off the Savage and mount it on the Mini 14 where it's relatively high power can be utilized. For short range woods hunting field of view for me is more useful than high power as quick target acquisition can be more important than magnification. The majority of Deer I have killed has been with a slug gun out to around 100 yards and closer, the scope was just a straight 3X. personally I would consider a regular 1X4 to maybe a 2X7 Leupold for the Savage 308 for the type of hunting you are wanting to do. As for the 10/22 most dedicated rimfire scopes will get the job done, buy the best one you can afford. Al
  10. A dog that attacks and bites people can be shot in self defense, a dog that attacks and kills livestock can be shot. Shooting a dog for any other reason is illegal in NY. Shooting dogs these days will land you in a world of shit almost as bad as shooting a person, the consequences will be dire if you are caught. Al
  11. Pawing around through my fishing tackle and found my old belt hanging worm-bait box, low tech by today's standards, worm fishing is what I started on when first learning to fish as a young boy and is still one of my favorite ways to relax and enjoy fishing. Al
  12. What I like about Rinella and his show is he actually goes "hunting" something that is missing a lot these days. To each their own but sitting in a blind with all the comforts of home shooting lured game is not hunting to me. Al
  13. Get yours at Sportsman Guide
  14. If you can see the evidence of a tick bite half the battle is won and treatment can start right away, most folks never know they were even bitten and it lets the disease take hold and manifest into a whole bunch of maladies and symptoms that are often misdiagnosed. I came down with it bad late last summer and never saw a tick or a bite bullseye. Do not have a clue when I contracted it but believe I had it for some time. The New York Outdoor News runs a full page ad time to time from a Lyme specialist Dr. listing a whole slew of symptoms Lyme disease can produce and I could check off on having most of them. In the beginning I attributed many of the symptoms to old age and just sucked it up and went on with life but things started getting so bad I was having a hard time doing anything physical. I suspected Lyme and requested a blood test and sure enough I had it. Within a few days of the Doxy regimen I started feeling better, today I feel pretty good and I am doing about as well as a 71 year old guy can be expected. Al
  15. Looks like an early Browning Hi Power 9mm Al
  16. Having worked in the Firearms business many years and being involved in the buying and selling of firearms numbering in the thousands I am well aware how the game is played. Lawdwaz's 452 has a couple of things going for it, first of all the CZ 452s have a large enthusiastic following because of their stellar reputation for quality and accuracy. Second the 452 is now a discontinued model. Condition is everything and this one looks to be pristine. The 17 H2 is a rare chambering and sought after for good reason. The 3X9 older style Leupold scope w/AO in itself is highly sought after and can bring high dollars and do no forget the rings. So all and all a very desirable high quality rimfire rifle. Al
  17. Old Advertisement, 452s have been discontinued since 2011 I think and maybe a bit longer for the HM2 452s.
  18. That is one nice rifle in probably the best Squirrel hunting round ever devised. I have a 452 Lux in regular 22LR, it is a shooter and one of my favorite practice rifles. I like the 452 models over the current 455s. The used 452s are going for between 5 and 6 hundred bucks bare, the quality of a mounted scope would add on to that., yours being chambered in the rare HM2 makes it worth more depending of course how much the buyer wants that chambering. There is one on Guns International listed for a grand and it has what I would consider to be a lower end BSA scope mounted on it. Al
  19. Has anyone seen you and Uptown Redneck in the same room? Al
  20. A real beauty, I call it "The Uncle Donald Special" by Magnum Research, a little gaudy for me but I bet it would be right up the Donald's alley.
  21. Doing some spring cleaning and found some new old stock, actually still teams up well with my Bows and Arrows all of which are pretty much vintage. My first hunting arrows were Port Orford cedar with these same Bear Razorheads but they were the epoxied on type. Al
  22. "The collar clinic is about as much help as sport dog, I wouldn't buy another sport dog." The Collar clinic has a pretty good reputation for fixing E and tracking equipment. The Sport Dog brand is where the problem is. Al https://www.collarclinic.com/repair-trade.html
