  1. I talked to 3 people in 8F that saw bucks breeding does either yesterday or today. I had a 3 year old buck go across the road nose to ground at 5:30 today about 1 1/2 miles from my property where I had pictures of him two weeks ago. i think breeding is in full swing in this area anyway.
  2. I shot this buck monday night. He was slipping past me through a swamp when I saw him. I grunted which he ignored so then I grabbed my bleat can and turned it three times. After that he came in on a string. I shot him at 30 yards and hit him a little back but he didn't go too far but I decided to wait a few hours to go get him. When my friends and I started pulling him out after we went back in and found him where I had last seen him we noticed his tail and bung had already been eaten by the coyote's. I rough scored him at 125 yesterday. he weighed 170 and has an inside spread of 17 1/2.
  3. I saw 4 bucks today while out on the road in Wayne county. The bucks are starting to get nutsy!
  4. 2 more for me in 8F then, just as I figured.
  5. I took a tractor ride out to the woods last night and smelled the distinct smell of "buck" as I entered a recently bush hogged golden rod field. Once I cleared the field and got back into the woods I spotted a fresh rub on a 3 inch diameter tree, and then to top it off I entered another recently bush hogged field and found a fresh scrape. It was pretty nice to see all this sign just as the season is about to open up. Now I gotta get some cameras closer to the action!
  6. I was out clearing out an old overgrown trail last weeekend with a friend when I had something hit me in the eye. I thought it was a thorn from the multiflora rose we were cutting through so I slowly took off my glove and grabbed it only to find that the "thorn" was a yellow jacket stuck in my scruntched up eyelid. Just as I started to yell to my buddy to be careful because we had a nest near by he got it in the forehead. So we moved ahead to what we were hoping was safer ground and share in our pain when I got it again in the neck! My eye swelled up pretty good but not horrible. My friend however swelled up worse and had to take a day off from work the next day becasue he said he looked like a star trek character. We found the nest, in the ground under a bush we were trimming on. I felt a little better about it two days ago when I walked by and saw that a skunk had dug out the hive. Dang bee's!
  7. I have been dealing with a real estate transaction for quite some time now. Back in early May I looked at a house and made an offer with a contingencey that I sell another piece of property in order to get the money. I had a buyer for that piece a week later. Here we are now and I am just finally putting the money in the bank from that deal. The abstract work took FOREVER! I am figuring I might be able to close on my new house late next week but more likely sometime the week after labor day. The seller of the house I am buying sold everything he had at an auction back in mid July figuring we would be closed by late July. He hasn't been real pleased that he has had to live in an appartment for the last month and a half.
  8. I realize running a country is a lot different than running a household or a business, but I do know one thing holds true for all. If the amount of money going out is greater than the amount of mopney coming in sooner or later we are doomed for failure! We need to stop supporting the the lazy people of this country. Why on earth do we keep giving free rides to so many people who are perfectly capable of working but choose not to because they are happy enough to live off OUR money! If you want illegal immigrants out of the country then cut welfare to those plenty capable of working, see how fast they jump at the chance to pick apples or potatoes or pick up a rake to sweep up someones yard when they get hungry!!! 9. I haven't gotten mine yet. I bought the sportsmans when I was 18, I bought it with graduation money. Then I bought my muzz and bow when I was 20 after I got my first job out of college. Now at 33 I have more than gotten my money back. I also bought my son his before he was a year old right before the price increase.
  10. On my property I plant quite a bit of white clover and winter wheat or winter rye and a little brassica. My plots aren't big enough for corn or beans, the deer would wipe them out.
  11. I can totally relate to this topic. I started hunting when I was 16. I hunted out of a camp that my dad had hunted out of when he was 16. My uncle and two buddies purchased 135 acres that this camps hunters had always hunted on (back when you could hunt all over) and then a few years later my aunt and uncle bought 215 more acres. Things were great there for quite a while. My first few years hunting there are some of my fondest hunting memories. Me and another young guy whose dad had hunted there with my dad and uncle used to get notes from our parents to skip school to go down to camp to go hunting. Shortly there after things started going down hill. A logging deal between the three owners of the 135 acres went bad and they all got mad at one another. This festered for a few years untill getting to a point where they weren't even allowed on my uncle's 215 acres. I got older and bought my own land a few miles down the road. Now 18 years later me and the guy I used to skip school with hunt my land together quite a bit. That relasionship has had it's ups and downs over the years too though, due to beer drinking habits and marital status. I do know one thing, good hunting buddies are few and far between.
