  1. Agreed with what was said above. It also makes a BIG difference on the camera. My brother-in-law has one that I believe is made by Multrie (but is the Cabela's brand) and it only like taking pictures about half the time. I have 4 bushnells and they pick up everything. They are so sensative that I rarely if ever get a "butt" or a blank picture. it also means I get a ton of pictures of nothing just due to them being sensative. But, I would rather have 1,000 pictures on the camera and 2/3rds of them being from wind, weeds, sun, squirrels, etc, then missing 1/2 of the animals that walk buy with a less sensative camera or setting. Also, a big thing that I learned from some fellow outdoorsman, is put the camera up much higher than you think is neccessary and make sure it is at somewhat of an angle down. I typically hang my cameras 6 or 7 feet up and have them slightly angled down. They pick up EVERYTHING within range and tend not to deal so much with sun issues or far off weeks moving, etc. Lastly, make sure that the trigger lens is clean! For whatever reason, it seems to be a magnet for spiders and other cocoon dwelling creatures. If I leave my cameras up too long, they all end up having something nesting in that little lens hole. It drives me nuts!
  2. Stop pissing on this guys post. Go find a hobby. Nice RECORD BOOK buck buddy! Don't let anyone say anything different. Get it officially scored by Pope & Young and get your award and your name in the BOW book PLEASE.
  3. right off the page you just linked: "...trophies that meet the Awards minimum but not the All-Time minimum will be listed in the Awards book. Trophies that meet the All-Time minimum will be listed in both the Awards book, as well as "Records of North American Big Game." 160" makes the book. 170" is what they call "all-time" and that is an entirely seperate book. And, for bow hunters, we use Pope & Young and trophies are listed at 125" with a bow. That 160" is for a gun hunter. So his deer IS a record book animal and WILL be listed in the record book (not just an award).
  4. Great buck! Don't let the people who don't have a clue ruin your trophy! People should just be happy for others and pipe down.
  5. 125 for bow gets you in the book FYI. 160" is for gun and 170" is what they call "all-time" Don't ruin this guys glory.
  6. As stupid as it sounds, i think I am more bothered by the litering than the thought of someone hunting and drinking. Probably because I agree with you in that MOST (or at least i would like to think so) of the beer cans are not from people carryind a loaded gun. Unfortunately, it would be naive to think that people don't do this though. I personally know of someone who drinks and hunts. I make sure I am not within 10 miles of him while i am hunting.
  7. My reference to finding 12-15 underneath a guys tree stand? You are probably right, he was just getting away from his wife and getting loaded in the tree stand, but not hunting.
  8. Its funny about that. I never paid any attention to those things while out shed hunting (or doing anything in the woods) until 2 yeas ago when I was following a fellow member, Sam Potters, Shed Hunting Blog. He decided to track Mylar balloons along with the sheds, dead heads and dead deer he found. The Mylar balloons won pretty handlily. Since that blog, it brought those things to my attention, and I would agree, they are EVERYWHERE. I definitely find more balloons than sheds each year. Maybe our government should individually serial number them like bullets so they can waste even more money tracking those culprits....lol.
  9. That was exagerated for effect sir. I am a very serious hunter. I would NEVER jeopordize my opportunity to have the best possible chance any time I am in a stand. I am usually in bed by 8 or 9 pm the night prior to hunting with ear plugs in to avoid the noise by the party part of my crowd. That said, the after effects of drinking too much (AKA a hangover) is simply dehydration, which can cause headaches, sensativity to light and naseau (thus my joking reference to sunglasses and a garbage can).....it does not mean you are still under the influence. Tell me you haven't been hungover in your life for the entire next day after drinking too much? Alcohol is long out of your system by then. Regardless, I don't condone that or would justify that in any way, shape or form.
  10. We all have our vices for sure. I am not condoning having some beers with your hunting buddies, but do that at night when you are lying about the monster you saw and couldn't get a shot...lol. I've had some morning's after getting together with the guys that first night that i had to crawl to my stand with a garbage can in one hand and sunglasses in the other...lol.....but that is AFTER i'm done for the day. There is ZERO room for someone to be drinking before or during the act of hunting. Its sad really to think that someone is that desperate that that would even cross their mind.
  11. I wish i was strong engouh to carry a bag that big. I think I could dedicate my life to cleaning up the woods and never accomplish another thing. It is CRAZY the amount of garbage in the woods even besides the beer cans. I just don't get it.
  12. I don't know what apalls me more, the total lack of respect for our wildeness and complete ignornace of people who toss their beer cans in the woods OR the fact that people think it is ok to consume alcohol while they are hunting with a deadly weapon! I shed hunted for about 6 hours yesterday and came across no less than 50 beer cans in the woods. I came across a tree stand that had 12-15 laying around at the base of it. People disgust me.....and scare me.....that they would even fathom drinking and shooting. I can walk deep into any set of woods and always rely on fiding at least 1 beer can. Crazy. Done venting!
  13. I'm sure a neighbor has 3 right sides wondering where the hell all the lefts keep falling off. Time to start knocking on some doors and offer up a trade.
  14. I am in the RV Distribution business and I JUST did this for a friend of mine. Look at an RV tankless system and use a propane bottle. For a cabin application it woud be perfect. I can't fathom you would use that much hot water in a cabin. Your not talking a 10 bedroom lodge i presume. The recovery on them is just fine for normal use. Agaiin, its a cabin, not like you will be running laundry, dishes and have 3 showers going.
  15. Walking in waste deep snow following a well used deer trail. Had these fallen 6" to the left or right of the trail they woudl have been lost til May. They fell in the middle of the trail and on top of each other. Crazy. So perfectly symetrical too! Great genetics as this deer is only 2.5.
  16. I just find this humorous. I am done with this post. I simply forwarded a picture and someones account. Wolf, Coyote, whatever. Nobody will know and frankly I don't care. I didn't trap it and I didn't weigh it. I find it the most interesting that most people chimed in to say that because it weighed less than what the guy claimed, it must not be a wolf. lol. Wolves must ALL be 150lbs and they must be born 150lbs. There are no wolves that weight 30 lbs, 40lbs, 70lbs, etc.. Just ridiculous assumptions by the typical few know-it-alls in here. Anyways, it all good. I'm going to go get some work done. You folks can keep debating all you want. Feel free to read this paragraph also and see if you find some typos or inaccurate statements to dwell on since you have nothing else to do Enjoy your day people. Happy hunting!
  17. Go ahead. Are you disputing that there are Elk in NYS?? And are you disputing that they get shot??
  18. exactly my point. Thats what you get for sharing things in here. There are a handful of people who know everything and will stop at nothing to prove a point. My post was just to share a picture.
  19. funny how people knit pick the out of every word in here. It is as if you have no life but to pounce on words out of context. There are Elk in NYS. There is a hunting season in PA on the Elk that were transplanted at the same time. It is a matter of time before there is a limited entry draw here in NY on the Elk. So, i was stating there is Eastern elk hunting season, which there has never been in my lifetime. PA, NY, what the hells the difference.....Its not traveling to UT, CO,WY, etc. Which wasn't the point of the thread, but thats what you get in this forum. Know-it-alls. People who know everything about everything. Anyways, for those of you who read what I wrote, i could care less if is or isn't a wolf, or a coyote or a dog in a costume. Was posted for people to see, the point of a forum. so everyone calm down already. good god.
  20. Like I said, I don't care enough to dig into it. If its a Yote, great, if not, great. I know this is always a fun subject on here. he's claiming it is a wolf. DEC said no. I would trust the DEC over a friend of a friend. However, with that said, why are people so quick to dismiss a wolf could be in NYS?? I think it is completely practical. They don't live that far from here. It was unfathomable that there could be elk in NYS until just a few years ago also....now we can hunt them! It is not impossible for one to have migrated that far, or for them to have been raised and release (legally or illegally). Just sayin. and "a Coyote looks nothing like a Timber Wolf" is a ridiculous statement. Sometimes a German Shephard looks nothing like a German Shephard, just depends on genetics. I can create random album of 100 pictures, 50 being Yotes and 50 being Timber Wolves and NOBODY would score 100%. 99 out of 100 wouldn't be good enough, because that would simply mean it IS possible.
  21. He just trapped it recently and was the first I had seen that picture. I will see if he has some additional photos. I am not close to an expert on determining a wolf from a coyote, so it could be either (and frankly, I don't care if it turns out to be genetically mutated red fox. lol). Thought I would post it for everyone to chew on. It seems there are a lot of experts in here that without any testing can determine what it is (and I will restate that a Timber Wolf and Coyote can look identical). I don't think anyone could claim anything definitive. Always a fun subject though
  22. compare the 2 photos above of the one I posted and then the Yote over the carcass. Look at how lanky the Coyote is. You can tell once you strip the fur, he is just a skinny dude underneath. Look at my picture and look at the muscle tone in the shouders and neck. Also look at the size of the front paws. A good indication of true size of an animal.
  23. I own a business and we ship millions of dollars through UPS and FedEx a year. It depends on where it is going. It can be a longer shipping time to CO than CA simply due to "remote shipping" It is standard 5 days ground to most California locations. You can always pay for either a express delivery (which is more money, but chepaer than next day) or pay for a Saturday delivery to give you a 6th shipping day. I will regress to what I said before, prepared properly (frozen, packed well and put in the proper cooler with dry ice), it will still be frozen upon its arrival. Keep in mind also you are shipping during winter, so it is all "cold storage" while on their vehicles!! Its not like it will be sitting in a 90 degree truck for a week. And to Belo's comment, yes, you can take it on the plane. I've done that many, many times. There are ZERO regulations about transporting meat on a plane. if you are flying, pay the extra $25 or $50 "baggage" fee and just bring it with you. its better than next-day, it is same day!
  24. I gaurantee you it is not 35 or 40 lbs. I have a house cat that weights 22. Yes, he is squatting behind it, but not for effect. I don't believe it was 150 lbs either, that is what he had said. I do believe it is pushing 100 lbs though. Why it screams wolf to me, it is much more "bulky" and muscular than any coyote Ive seen. Coyotes (as mentioned above) have fluffy coats making them appear much bigger than what they are. They tend to be lanky critters. Look at the muscle tone on this guy. Look particularly at his front shoulder muscles. This is not a "coat hiding his size." This guy IS very large despite the coat. And to the other comments, a Coyote and a Wolf are of the same lineage and very, very, very close relatives, so of course they are going to look similar. to the untrained eye, maybe even identical. I believe this is part of the DEC denial. They don't do any genetic testing. They just dismiss all wolf sitings as "big coyotes." It would not be remotely hard for a timber wolf to show up and easily be mistaken for Coyote. In fact, some timber wolfs are the same size as a Coyote.
