I agree with you. I watch them anyways cuz it is better than the other junk on tv. My neighbors and even the people I hunt with ARE brown and down. It drives me batty. I show them trail camera pictures before the season and tell them there a big bucks so don't shoot the first 2 year old 4 point that walks by......but.....they shoot it anyway. I am 36, been hunting my whole life, been deer hunting on my own since first legal age of 16 (20 years). I hunt hard and I scout. That buck in my avatar is the only whitetail I have mounted.....so to me, it is realistic. It's not a monster and I don't have a wall of them. Thanks for the compliment though.

Thats a good idea about using a step. Taht is what happened to mine. It just got bent to shit and then broke. The umbrella itself is actually in good shape. it is vented so it withstands a ton of wind. A lot I looked at online are not. They will get ripped off the tree by me the first day its windy.

The date is correct. But, as I mentioned in the post, he actually stopped growing. I have seen him since that picture. It looks the picture should have been from June when he first started growing. For some reason he just stopped. Weird. I don't know what to make of it. Had he continued along, he would have been a beauty.

yeah, i know their nice, thats why I want to replace mine. Looking for a recommendation. What brand is yours? any idea??

I had a tree stand umbrella until last season when a windstorm destroyed it. Looked online this year for a new one and they all seem to SUCK! They all get bad reviews and look like pieces of crap. Does any one use one? and like it? Recommendations?

Would you shoot the deer in the background? He is actually an 8, but looks like a long-horn steer. For some reason he started growing a nice wide rack and then apparently stopped. This is pretty much how he will look out of velvet (I have seen him recently). Bad genetic? Just goofed up this season? If it grew normal, he would be a big buck next year!

Agree 10000000000% (did I put enough zeros?). I live in Erie county. We are one of the highest taxed counties in the COUNTRY. You would think Buffalo was a suburb of LA, NY or CHI the way we pay up the ass. So, yeah, I am very protective of what I have left.....never really correlated that to my hunting property....but i guess there could be an argument made there. -

I have not contacted anyone in a different state, so I will take your word for it. On the NY side, I couldn't AGREE more. It isn't just hunting, but the attitudes in the North East in general. I own a business and I joke with my sales guy who covers this terrtiory that he literally has every asshole customer our company has in his territory!! The property i hunt, who is basically like family to us, will definitely turn down anyone who asks to hunt there (besides us) and would shoot you if you tresspassed...lol. I know other people the same way. And, event he guys who hunt public land won't tell you what they saw where they are hunting, etc. Totally opposite of how I was brought up in a hunting family of sharing. I find myself being a dick now too..lmao. I have property behind my house I bowhunt and I get a call a year or so looking for permissioin and I tell them no. -
In stark contrast (for those of you with cable or DirectTV), when you watch the Pursuit Channel or Outdoor Channel, they OCCATIONALLY do other hunts like Mule Deer and Elk. They hardly every shoot monsters. Why? Because unlike Whitetail hunting, you can' t farm them, feed them for bigger antlers, have special property for these guys. I wish they did more shows on the Western hunts. I really like them. Cant tell you how many times I watched a Mule Deer hunt and they stalk and shoot a 150" 3 point Muley. Very realistic (I have done a bunch of Muley Hunts, and they are a ton of fun....and a ton of work).

I would like to believe you. Where I actually hunt, that is probably pretty accurate I would say 3 to 1 or 4 to 1. Where I live, but don't hunt, it is way worst than that. Oh well, not worth arguing over, only the deer know for sure.....lol -

I just started bow hunting 3 years ago so maybe this will change, but I have never shot a doe in my life. The gun season usually falls during the rut so I have not shot a doe in fear that she was already bred and contained a future buck in her belly. -

Ok, fine opening weekend and then thanksgiving weekend contains 95% of the hunting. Not sure how you could argue this. I know a lot of hunters and they all hunt 3 or 4 days max! -

Your right, 100 to 1 is high, but not impossible. There is no way the state wide ratio is 2 to 1 though. I can't prove it, but hunting for 30 years, it is my gut feeling. Also, I said AFTER the season they are in the fields and where DEC does their counts. Never said during the season or duh, yeah they would be shot up. I am talking like January. Never said anything about killing all the does either. I merely mentioned doing the youth hunt as a doe management hunt. There are some states that require you to shoot a doe before you can get a buck tag. It helps control the population. -

You can't argue statistics right? lol. DEC is smokin dope. Yeah, 94% of adult doe are being bred, that doesn't mean they are being impregnated. And, even if they are, like humans, complications when you are older is exponential. There is an ideal, healthy breeding age. Also, 1.6 doe per adult buck is hogwash. There is NO WAY on earth there is a buck for every 2 doe. After the season when they are out in mass to feed (and when they do these counts) I have seen as many as 50 doe in a field with out a single buck. So there is 25 bucks hiding? lol. LOVE our DEC folks. -
I'm curious how the property to the right of the line is 30 acres, but the property to the left that looks maybe 50% larger is 90 acres? is there property missing on your map?

The deer issue in NY is the ridiculous amount of Doe btw. Not the bucks. I bet we have a ration of 100 to 1 in some areas. How about making the youth hunt a Doe only early season?? That would both help the overall population and still get youth involved. Nobody I hunt with ever shoots doe. You get bucks breading old doe and sometimes they don't even product fawns. That isn't healthy. -

I mule deer hunt in UT every other year (how often you can draw a tag) with my brother-in-law. They have a 8 day muzzeloader and 8 day rifle season. Thats it! The quality of animals is much better than other states I have hunted that have longer seasons. Given the fact that 95% of all NY hunters hunt opening weekend and then thats it, the argument is a moot point as to total deer taken. I bet a 8 day or 9 day hunt wouldn't efffect the numbers but 1 or 2% tops. That then gets inot a different argument of "quality of deer" vs just putting meat in the freezer which I am not about to get into...lol. -
AGREED. There is NO WAY these guys are spending the time scouting and hanging stands. They sure make it seem like they are though. Most of the shows you will hear a comment like "we got in Sunday and spent the day scouting and hanging stands." Then, magically the next day they have a booner on the ground. You don't come in Sunday, scout, hang a stand and then shoot a booner. I realize that SOME of these guys are lucky to own unbelievable property (Joel Snow in OH is one of them). HE HIMSELF probably spends all year mananging, scouting and hanging stands. But, when the TV guys hows up, it is all set up for him. Money, Money, Money. Oh well, I love the outdoors regardless of what I shoot.

Agree. I was a gun hunter my whole life and admittedly was jealous of the bow season being first. 3 years ago i went and got my bow certificate, bought a bow and started shooting. I LOVE the bow season now!! Probably my favorite time of year. -

No, I didnt mean ending the bow hunt early. I just meant, if you move the bow hunt up 2 weeks, then allow the last 2 weeks before gun to be the youth season AND still bow season. Also, doing it for the nice weather? Our kids are so goddamn spoiled today. I am 36 and dread what my young kids will be like in 20 years the way this world is going. When I was a weee little chap, my father bundled me up, put me in a tree stand with him and told me to shuttup and stop shaking...lmao. I appreciate the fact that he exposed me to all kids of situations when i was a kid. Its called diversity. Kids today already have a silver spoon in their mouths and have a sense of entitlement. its crazy. -
cool, thanks.

To many damn quotes to quote to copy them all. I will attempt to Remember all of them. First, bow and muzzleloader are considered a primitive weapons hunt. I don't argue technology has evened the playing field, but that is what they are. You can take that up with the DEC not me. You can't argue that bows and muzzleloader were around before modern guns! You also can't argue that compared to a new, 300 ultra mag with a sniper scope that shoots 2" groups at 1,000 yards, that bow and muzzleloader are suppose to be "primitive" Second, I am a die hard hunter all around. I hunt bow, gun and muzzleloader and enjoy the outdoors period. It's not about shooting anything, but about enjoying the whole experience. I am not trying to "compromise one season for another" Third, I am all for a youth season. I have 2 young boys who I am super excited to get into the outdoors, having a time set aside for just them with less pressure so they can enjoy the experience is important (and safer compared to the billion people and bullets flying around opening weekend. Lastly, having any gun season during bow is BS. Youth or otherwise. Since they moved bow season up 2 weeks, why don't they put a youth season at the end of bow for the final 2 weeks before opening gun? That would be a nice compromise. Go ahead, piss over my arguments......lmao, that's what makes this country great. -
I LOVE my TC Omega muzzloader. I had a traditional 3 x 9 scope on it and took it off. I put an Eotech Holographic site on it (same one our Military uses on their M16's). The site is bad ass and a nice compromise between open sites and an actual scope (which can be cumbersome and hard to shoot at close range or moving targets). Don't know if anyone else has seen or used them? Might not be a bad idea for your muzzy Bubba.

I don't argue your point. Gun Hunter ehtics is a WHOLE separate subject. It is remarkable what people will do with a gun in their hands and how unethical a lot of people are with the shots they attempt. Agreed on that point. Back to bowhunting. It is supposed to be a "primitive weapons hunt." Yeah, i know new bows are far from primitimve (no different than the fact that I would shoot my muzzloader over a rifle any day of the week). Regardless, it is SUPPOSED to be more difficult. Do you anchor your combound bow? Do you put it on a rest when you shoot it? NO. You use a scope, but you are 1 in a million who does. I just think having something that is 80, 90 even 100# draw weight (that you draw with your legs and arms), sitting on a pefect rest and having a scope will be a detriment to what once was a true archery season. I am a purest, what can I say. Just my opinion, right or wrong. -
lmao! yeah, agreed.
