Some real cold weather coming in for youth hunt. By me low 30's high 40. Sunday/Monday rain though. Going to make it tough. Good luck to the kids. We have one girl hunting this weekend. -

Slept 4 hrs last night it played in my mind over and over. Then at 1:20 am I relized what I did wrong. When I told my Brother in law the story I said I had my 10 on his lower chest and the 20 was above the shoulder. If you read that its impossible. The 10 is your top pin the 20 should of been below the deer it is below the ten yard pin. I had my 30 on his heart area and the 20 end up on shoulder. Upon rushing the shot I did not go through a sequence I practice. I always say top ten meaning the ten yard pin is at top. I didn't do this totally my fault. I said to him last night I have heart shot deer and messed hp like this at times when does it stop? He said when you put down the bow and call it quits! -

Well it happened. It happened twice. I went this afternoon to one of my favorite stands. It was a bit windy this afternoon but in there it is not so bad. Very tight shooting huge pine forest in front bedding areas all around. I've been seeing a lot of deer so by 5:40 I thought ok one of those nights I see nothing. Around 6 I hear some branches breaking behind me. Bear or deer for sure. 10 Minutes go by and I look behind me again and there are two bucks a 6 and 4 pt. Walking right to me. I was like ok make for some nice video. I take out the phone and look back and see three more deer all mature bucks! These 5 were traveling together. The little ones went off to my side and the bigger ones were coming in. There was a beautiful 10 pt. He was just perfect and a 8 pt that was not much smaller. The one I wanted was the big guy headed right for me. I'm going to tell you he was probably 24-26 wide, great mass but his rack was all screwed up. Some tines were broken or not there I think he was old but the body size on him, Me never seen any bigger had to be 200+. Our group shot a 219lbs years ago rack and deer size looked the same. So the big guy takes the lead and heads to my left. Stops 12 yards from my stand. My tree stand is in a split tree with two trunks had to get the arrow over and shoot through them. Then my harness was in the way it was crazy. I managed to unhook it and he was still there but started to stomp. I rushed the shot. I had my 10 yard pin on his chest (probably should of been lower) and he literally fell to the ground when he heard the bow release. Arrow went right over him. Trots off with his two friends in tow. They stop 40 yards out and keep looking in my direction. I do a few few doe bleats and he starts coming back. They all do. They veer of to my left and are even with me at 20 yards. At that point I didn't have a great shot and one of the bucks starts heading away. I bleat again and they all turn and come back a few yards. He gives me a clear shot at 25 yards and I just shoot under him. The trotted away......both arrows recovered no blood. It just didn't come together for me tonight. PLUS no wounded deer just wounded ego! Honesty never in 45 years of hunting did I see 5 bucks together. Amazing and its a long season! -
Good way to look at it. See I agree with you just ask I would be happy to help out. My Nephew is a State Trooper he has been bugging me to set up a system. He is here for a week in October. Like most of you guys our homes and barns have a lot of expensive stuff.

I decorated my place for fall this weekend. Bought a bunch of Mums and pumkins to put all over along with corn stalks from my field. I put 4 pumpkins down by my mail box and the were stolen today. Really 4 pumpkins. They cost me 10 bucks. I'm not worried about the money just the fact my property was stolen. It sucks but it is going to open my eyes to new theft down the road. Some maybe time for home surveillance.

Nothing tonight. Too warm and windy. This week looks to be much better! -
Hey shout out to my Brother in law Mark over in Schuylar county! I have been hunting with him for 35 years or so. We went to a traditional bow shoot in PA last summer it was great. He ordered a stick bow and practiced with it a lot this summer. All came together this morning. 18 yard heart shot on a big doe. So proud of him!!!!!!

I had this situation on a big bodied buck a few years ago. Was about 15 yards out but walking fast following a Doe. I let him pass for a quartering away shot. I hit him a bit high and forward. Found the arrow in the same shape yours was in. He was running fine though and continued running after that Doe. Did not find blood and looked for two days. My thoughts you had a good hit but bone got in the way. You broke the shoulder but he still can move pretty good. Buck I shot at gun season had three working legs. They can get around. Hey did you guys look high on the golden rod or just on the ground? I agree with Hockey try the dog route. It's a horrible feeling especially on a target buck. Good luck oh always look for crows later in the day or a few days after. I have found deer this way. Meat is no good but you might find him. -

Hunted today. This morning I got busted getting down from the stand. This afternoon was great saw 9 Doe and 2 Buck. 2 Buck were a 6 and 4 pt. Doe and fawn come in. Fawn is eating acorns doe is wondering away. She gets 100 yards in front of the fawn. Fawn still eating acorns not even looking in her direction. Doe leaves now here come two buck. They walk up to the fawn and follow the path the Doe took. The fawn followed the bucks back to her mother. It was interesting. I also peed off the stand with a deer 30 yards from me. She looked my way heard the sound but was not alarmed. It was a great night until another Doe and fawn came in. Mom wasn't happy and started blowing. Never heard a deer blow so much. I was half way up the hill and she was still at it. Going to give that stand a rest..lol -

Didn't hunt yesterday afternoon. Just checked cell pictures and had two nice bucks come by one of the stands at 6:00 pm last night. Oh well, the boys still hanging together. -
Steve I feel your pain. I'm sure what you are describing is horrific. Being I went through this also, not to the extent you did, I just want to share how it went for me. Again Insurance agent was State Farm. There on call agent for fire called me and said go get a hotel, 3 meals a day and don't worry we will cover it. I told him I was ok in the house. The adjuster showed up the next day at 9 am. We spent 15 minutes together and I left for work. He had the whole thing worked out with claim by 3 pm. It was actually a document sent to me. Every spelled out correctly and a value on the claim. I was amazed. Don't ever try to cheat on square footage, they had satelight pictures of my place and and square footage. You must be dealing with a pretty crappy company. Sorry for that.
-
Wow good info. I feel for you. I hope in the end it works out.
-
I had a fire little under two years ago. I believe that is what happened to you? Fortunately State Farm Insurance was wonderful. Structure wise they went above and beyond. Personal property loss was in my hands and I couldn't remember all the stuff I had. Big ticket items were replaced. I had actual replacement value. That was huge on the coverage. I tell people take a video or pictures of all your stuff. You will forget so much and not get reimbursed. My claim stayed open for two years and is just about to close. I'm sorry you are going through this, emotionally it can wreck you and to have the insurance company give you problems is horrible.

I should of left sooner also. Deer were in the food plot and cut me off to my bottom stands. All turned out well and had 2 adult and 4 fawns come by. Great hunt and saw 6 in the field on my way out! They are crunching the acorns! -
Correct you are, it is a big deal.
