I found some instructions on how to start cuttings and rootings on-line and tried it out. Mix half sand, half peat add some vermiculite.. water with a touch of rooting hormone and stick the cuttings. So far success with wild grape, lilac and hawthorn. Going to add some yew and dogwood next and see how it goes. If this works, I won't need to buy plants, just start cuttings from local stock.

Ha! I was waiting for something like that!!!

As I travel around the internet I've found one thing that repeatedly raises my hackles and just turns me off...Dude. I hate someone calling me Dude, it just brings on an instinctive visceral reaction from latent Neanderthal genes and DNA untapped for ages, just feels like someone pissed on my shoe.

Funny how all us evil animal murderers are the ones that are concrened about some poor calves and, enjoy seeing trailcam pics of wood ducks and all. Where's all those Peta Pipers

Yup, there's another guy with Navy armament containers like heavy duty suitcases from 24" to 42". Would make nice storage trunks.

Grafting and cuttings
Suilleabhain replied to Suilleabhain's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
In another post I mentioned I bought hawthorn to plant this year. Two of the three plants started real well. The third plant didn't bud at all. Figured it was dead but it felt green so I left it. A month later I'm seeing life. How do you figure that? -

Thanks, thats a start Bill -
This year I'm going to graft some apple to my crabapple on the property and start some cuttings from shrubs and wild grape. Anyone have experience with this and can offer some tips?

hawthorn, forsythia, blueberry, oak, apple -
I was up at my club and one of the members brought up a big remote controlled toy military truck, sort of like a downsized ATV. But like the size of a big Tonka. anyway he had it rigged with a target stand and used it for shooting moving targets. In a place like ours where its an outdoor range over typical hunting ground, it looked to be a great idea. I didn't get to stay to see how well it did but, I'm guessing it would be cool. Move that puppy through tree cover and brush with a deer target on it. Have to get one used on EBay myself.

I put in about a dozen various plants last weekend. Guess I'll have to do it over again -
Just got back from the club in 3A. Picked stones from the food plot. Planted blueberries, forsythia, hawthorn, apple and oak. Turnips and rye/clover will be coming soon. Stacked a cord and a half of wood, then the usual household odds and ends. Checked my new trail cam after the first month by my stand. Lousey drive down in the rain, lots of stupidity on the road. Woman came down an entrance ramp at 30 right infront of a semi. If he hadn't put her hard over she'ld have been dead.

Checked my trail cam, this is the best. Two does and a fawn working the spot almost every day from March to yesterday

THE GREAT HEALTH CARE DEBATE..
Suilleabhain replied to sits in trees's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
When I read these discussions, I go out to Exit 70 on the LIE and confer with the Whistlepig that lives on the north side. I come away with more knowledge and less of a headache. What he told me is you are talking to the wind and there's no cure for stupid when it comes to people letting the government run any part of ones daily lives.. -
I think there's change coming, in attitude towards guns in general. TV now has Top Shot, schools are bringing back archery, Ruger can't keep production up with demand, Smith & Wesson stock performance is way up too. Shooting range about a mile from my house is active every day its open from as soon as it opens. Whether its because of Obama or the end times, people who were on the fence before are now buying guns. I'm surprised at the number of non-hunters, non-shooters that I speak to that have bought a tactical shotgun for home.

Boy, you do get up early. Nice shots

You have a bushel full of deer in the second pic. Looks promising

Plants have been outside for just a few hours short of a week and they are budding. Always had luck with Arbor Foundation plants. I put two crabapples upstate, must be 20 years ago, and even with the bears trying to climb them and splitting the trunk they are still going strong.

So true. Normally I roll over at 8 and get up on weekends. Now its even too late for breakfast
