Take a look at what given to my 8 year son
Suilleabhain replied to Littlesunray's topic in Muzzleloaders
what brand is it? I've heard for rust, oil the rust and let it set then rub it out with burlap. Have never done it myself. -
I've had years where I passed on does waiting for horns, any horns. But, my heart still pounds at every deer I see. This year its first up, first down.

I used one of those CO2 things at the end of each day, got expensive. Now I pull the primer and put the gun in the trunk of my car overnight. I mark my ramrod for roundball and conicals

I hunted rifle for 30 years and had an opinion on shotguns..and it was wrong. After shooting with a .12 and a .20 the past 10 years I like them. Didn't like the result with hollow-point/hollow base .50 cal in my muzzleloader. It killed quick but the bullet flattened out to a pancake. I'll go to solids now.

Thanks, same back

I hunt some in a shotgun county but, you can use a 44 Magnum pistol and I've seen Thompson Contenders in 30 Herret. What's the diff, rifle or shotgun when you can shoot those

Good point on the firearm thing, I thought you would need some training. I am in favor of making some part of the season traditional primitive. The new compounds and in-lines are just single shots. The new ones are extending their reach and accuracy.

I think Jersey or Pa allowed them for disabled, not sure but I recall seeing that somewhere.

I'll be there until Tuesday. My brother lives near there & I can hunt his neighbor's land. Nice country out there. Benn hunting it since 2002 & still haven't taken a buck, all does. They are there, I see them in the fields & had a shot at a nice deer but it was a tad too long for my muzzleloader so I passed. Fellow that bow hunts the same piece took a 9-pt last week and he's been consistent over the past few years. Frustrating but I'm filling the freezer fairly well.

I'll be about an hour west of you this time next Friday, going to East Aurora.

Sort of like cheap French wine !

As I said before, the difference is you have it against your shoulder like a rifle not holding at arms length. I have no skin in this game, gave up archery a while back but, I can see their point.

with the economy, the shops have a good supply of used. Just take your time and visit often as the stock moves pretty quick. I saw a bunch of scoped Marlin 336s in 30-30 and .35 for an asking price of $360. They'd come down when they see cash. Not to say that's what you want, just an idea of what's out there

So that's why we had them drown in the toilet at my club? They were after the antifreeze when we shut the house down. Thanks for that, my friend used a paint roller with PVC over a water bucket & that worked too.

500 Yards? By the time he gets to it, it will be gutted, skinned butchered and half eaten and the head mounted.

Looking to join a Hunting Club

I saw somewhere Mongaup Preserve was open for members. That's within your range. -
Set my string in the garage a couple of weeks ago. Mice were bad last year. Wife had the bright idea to hire an exterminator over my tried and true Victors. So last year, $750 lighter and my traps caught the mice, his did zero. And, news to me, exterminators can't put bait in a mouse trap. He did give me some good info though. Said once a week or so a scout will come and check out the place. If you get him, the main herd won't show. This season I set a mine field of traps around my garage door. So far got six and they are coming once a week like he said. A single scout. Wonder what the pelts are worth.

I like walking in the dark. My worst enemy at night have been those attack grouse that always wait in the pine trees. And of course jumping bedded deer, that's always a joy. But, my friend had a dead lion in his pond when the ice melted this spring (saw the pics, small one but a lion at any rate) and the dogs and the bears, makes it a little more interesting.

Looks like I would be fun to shoot. How is it reloaded? Any kind of mechanical gizmo or just brute force? Just my opinion, as far as using them in archery season, I think the bow lobby won't let that happen, other than handicapped or old timers. I think the argument of holding and sighting with a bow at arms length under pressure versus a crossbow against the shoulder is enough to say they don't belong.

I like that this chat is tame, if it was on one of my fishing websites there would have been torches and pitchforks and suspensions and bans by now. Have to say, as a new guy here, there is a lot of respectful discussion without the flames. Kudos to the members and owner

If I had a doe permit and he walked out behind a good doe...I'd shoot them both.
-
I have to agree that I think it was better as a round ball iron sight season. But, then again I guess traditional long bow, recurve bow hunters say the same about compounds.

Congrats. Got the first one the hard way! Upstate or Long Island? Bill

I got 1 for 9H
