  1. 4H 4J Albany county- Been seeing some lone hens and jakes. Gobbling some days and other days are quiet. Toms are strutting in the fields some days. Scratchings are also becoming much more prevalent. I agree that the season is going to be a little more "normal" this season. The weather pushed them back a few days, so the peak should be the first and second weeks of may! Can't wait to get out there!
  2. thanks db, have a good season
  3. Hey guys, just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in hunting partridge run with me for turkey this spring? I'm in need of a hunting buddy as I'm fresh into college. If you guys don't know where partridge run is, it is outside of albany, in berne, ny. It is a huge area of forest and fields and is one of the wildlife management areas of nys. Any info on this place would be great too! Or if anyone new of a place near by that has good turkey hunting that we could possibly hunt? Thanks again
  4. As stated before, I would go out early and just listen. If you can hear a gobble odds are they can travel to your location come may 1st. The turkeys in your area could be in their winter flocks still depending on the temp and habitat they are in. The hens and toms should become very territorial soon so expect to see some more turkeys in spread out areas rather than all clumped in one big field! Drive around the neighboring properties. If you see them there, you can bet they will be within calling range on may 1st! hope this helps!
  5. I agree with the people saying its a habitat sort of thing. Here in albany county, many areas have been developed so there are not only less nesting areas but more concentrated flocks due to less land to roam. There are now tons of isolated strips of woods that are sometimes chained together. Great deer hunting ahah but not so much for the turkeys. They can't live on those areas the whole year in flocks. I bet that hen came down from Krumkill road. Loads of em over there! On the other hand, especially in the Speculator region, the turkey population has been booming! You cannot drive on route 30 or route 8 without seeing multiple toms and hens. It just shows you that where the habitat is right, the turkeys will be there.
  6. They were gobbling like crazy in albany county today. If it wasn't so cold, I would have stayed out longer. Some are still in their flocks, but they're starting to break up. CAN'T WAIT
  7. Gobbling should start soon, that is if the weather gets nicer!
  8. Yes, they love the thick cover. Snowshoe hares also have larger strides than cottontails as you may know, if there is snow look for their tracks.
  9. The deer in the richfield springs area can get huge, i have pictures from the trailcam where i hunt, (not my cam) with two potential record breakers for ny. If i posted them on here the questions would start immediately, they are that big. Fishing is also great, there is a small sand bar right off the eastern side of the shore in the lower side of the lake that i have bagged out on bass. Hope this helps!
  10. By the way, the tall tined buck (half horn-nickname from a few years ago after his injury) got hit by a car a few years back and his back right leg is still broken, I thought someone harvested him but looks like he's still around! He's at least 5 years old, just a shame he couldn't grow anymore due to his injury.
  11. All of these pictures happened over 4 nights. These are just a few of the twenty something pictures I got. This stuff really works!! Poured it about 8 feet in front of the camera as you can tell, and numerous deer visited. Good luck to everyone on Saturday! Be safe
  12. Finally had some luck in Albany County today! Very excited both before and after the shot! Two birds in one shot, one gobbler and one hen.
  13. Anyone trying out antler ice? Its a local company and they just started selling at dicks.

  15. The guy in the video states multiple times in the comments below that he is not baiting but "using" acorns. I have never seen a deer go to one little spot like that, besides acorns do not fall like that naturally. What do you guys think? watch.html
  16. Thanks a lot, i will definitely take you up on that!
  17. yeah wish i could help you out! Good luck to you too!
  18. Thank you very much! I appreciate it a ton!
  19. I've hunted in Hartwick once before! Beautiful area! Yeah I'd love to come out, just have to get the O.K.
  20. Thanks a lot! Yeah I don't have a bow yet but I do own a slug gun. I'd love to tag along some time! Thanks for the reply!
  21. Thanks guys! I'll have to try out the map thing if nothing else comes up. Good luck this season!
  22. That's actually a good point, but I'm just trying to go with my gut and trust the people on here. Besides, my parents aren't helping me find another person to go with, so I'm down to my last resort!!
  23. Wow, that's a bummer, yeah the past few years have just been too wet! Good luck this season!
  24. Aahaha yes that is right in my backyard, sadly it is a little too close to other houses, but I do have access to hunt the woods only a few hundred feet from there! He is still alive too! That's where I hunt with my other hunting buddy, but as I said, he is quite busy.
