  1. Well mainly I just want someone to hunt with, my parents don't really want me to hunt by myself yet.
  2. Hey guys, don't really know if this is in the right topic but I am looking for a hunting partner in albany county. I am 18 and neither of my parents or relatives hunt. My current hunting buddy is very busy this year and might not be able to hunt. If there was anyone that could help me out or lead me in the right direction, that would be awesome! I also love to video tape so if you just want a video recorder man, I can do that too! Thanks a lot!
  3. Have been getting some good pictures of turkeys this year. Finally a successful family! Can't wait for the fall turkey season!
  4. When my family and I went to a deer farm in PA, the bucks sometimes raised their tails when the feed was being given to them, maybe it means he was happy or content with what he was eating?

    4j

The buck in my profile pic was caught on my camera in 4j. He's still alive too, lives in the burbs of 4J.
  6. The only birds for me, this year, that have been gobbling are jakes! I always get excited, like this morning, when I call in a gobbling tom and only find out that its a jake. He had about a 4 inch beard, 17 or 18lbs (just on the edge of, BAM). He was about 55 yards out and then followed a hen up the side of the field. Starting to consider taking one, if need be. Meat is meat. The longbeards are out there though. I just feel fortunate that I'm hearing gobbles, sorry to those that are having a very quiet season.
  7. Depends on how warm the weather is in the next few weeks. If it is warmer in the first few weeks of april then everything should hopefully be normal. Last year was all whacked up.
  8. This year with the weather being so cold, we might even see some more intense gobbling towards mid to late may compared to the last few years of intense gobbling during april and early may. Saw a bunch today and they are down to their small flocks. No gobbling today though.
  9. Yup, they could be in many other places across the state, just people not reporting to DEC or on here that they've seen hogs. Ravena has a lot of woods too, with some good farm areas, so there could be a small herd there.
  10. We have seen a few in Ravena, two years ago we found a dead one too.
  11. You can pattern them a lot easier in the fall with trail cameras, that's how we turkey hunt in the fall. If you have a bunch of turkeys in one area right now, they usually leave come march and spread out but there's always a flock that stays. If I were you I would keep them up, you never know, and you're not gonna get anything bad out of it by leaving it out, except battery money lol.

    4H

I must be in a good spot because I have been seeing many bucks. We still have a few bucks that are hanging around with other bucks but most are on there own. There still are a ton of does too, just many bucks as well! We even saw some chasing action going on! Are you in Berne? Westerlo? Knox? Good luck!
  13. Nice picture, if only DEC acknowledged that they were in fact in Ny. The longer they wait the worse...
  14. I also hunt in 4H, in Berne, we have seen a ton of bears this year for some reason! Some good bucks and a ton of does. Guess we are just getting lucky. Wish you the best!
  15. I know that skunks love wasps and bees. Their thick skin prevents them from being affected by the stingers. We have to put boards with sharp nails on them around the bee boxes to prevent the skunks from killing the bees.
  16. I'd also say some cat, mountain lion or a big bobcat. Cats tend to bring their carcasses to trees.
  17. Wow! Nice Brute! I'd say he is a 9 with a little kicker on his right beam. The other long beam is hidden on his left beam.
  18. Just wondering if anyone has seen any good deer in region 4 yet this year? I saw a nice 8 pointer with potential behind the price chopper in slingerlands in 4J, but nothing else. Anyone else seeing anything?
  19. My buddy got this 23 lber with a 9 inch beard. Came running from a few hundred yards to the call.

    Decoys?

At Dick's Sporting Goods they have a surprisingly good decoy brand called lodge outfitters. They have hens, gobblers, and jakes. The best part is they are all under 30 dollars. You can get the hen for 20! They come with nice stakes that are hardy and will stick into wet, frozen or sandy ground. Decent detail also! I haven't been turkey hunting for long, but I've never seen a turkey run from these guys. Hope this helps and good luck!
  21. I have always had luck near the edges of fields, but I've noticed that many times they will come up through the woods, out of caution. You just have to find where they are traveling through or located in the woods if you want to hunt there. I also like fields because the decoys I use are more visible for the stupid birds that make that fatal mistake lol.
  22. I would have to agree with the field and stream stand at Dick's. If you get the two person it adds twice as much room and its more comfy cuz you have more room. It comes with a nice cushion too. Great buy at like 120 dollars on sale.
  23. I use the hornady sabot slugs, and I after firing them just on the target, I could see a giant 7 inch hole in the ground behind it....doubt there would be no blood ahha!
  24. Best boots in the world are Muck Boots! Any style will work just fine. Like WNY said the boots are rubber so it keeps in the heat well. They are at an awesome price.
