  1. I am interested in finding a bow hunting class somewhere close to the Westchester, Putnam or Dutchess county area. Anyone have any ideas on where to find info on this. Thanks
  2. Had a doe in my neighborhood that had a broken back foot. She was still around this year and has had twins every year. This is her 4th season that we have seen her limping. Not sure how many years before she was injured.
  3. Went out for Muzzleloader yesterday in CT. Got in my truck at 6:00 and started out my driveway only to find across the street is a very large 8 pointer mounting a doe second rut must be on
  4. I saw it too! I know a guy who shot a deer in Maine 25 years ago that was a doe with a fork on one side and a long spike on the other
  5. This year the weather has been great and it would be nice to get some more time in the field on some roosters. The dogs would love it. Especially with the lack of grouse in the lower sections of the state. A late stocking would be great!
  6. You really must know how to sit still!
  7. That's really cool! Nothing like company in the stand to help pass the time!
  8. Took a ride up to Kent CT today with the dogs. They usually clean up the birds the weekend of Thanksgiving, but we found 3 today, Flew a hen and 2 cock birds got the 2 cock birds. Great points by my younger dog Dani. Awesome to be out in the fields again!
  9. Pheasant run is your dog a brittany? I have 2 French Brittanies who love the birds.
  10. Went out today for some pheasants but didn't find anything. Really just wanted to work the dogs a bit. Does anyone else bird hunt during deer season? I tried to keep to the middle of the fields as I did not want to run in on anyone out there for deer. The dogs work pretty close so I don't think we did any harm to guys in the woods. We were in Putnam county.
  11. Nice handles for the drag! Congrats!
  12. They did this in CT the last couple years less than 1/4 mile from my house. Estimates were only 50 to 70 deer taken each year. This is a higher populated area of houses with a large park in the middle. The results were more deer in my neighborhood as they were chased out of the only wooded area around. Now we only saw small fork horns and spikes before and now we are seeing larger bucks in the 8, 10 and 12 point range. Hard to say if there was a relation between the two. Still have the same 7 or 8 does in the neighborhood, maybe the bucks are having to come out of the woods to find the does.
  13. I trapped in the late 70's early 80's when I was in high school. Coons were big money then. Only caught one fox and one mink but lots of coons and rats! Bought my first truck with that money! Miss those days!
  14. Some issues as for pheasant hunting. The places I've hunted in putnam county and dutchess county have limited parking to cut down how many guys are hunting on one parcel. Seems to work. Some guys do follow or chase the stocking truck around and wait to hunt after they come. The other issue is guys who take more than the 2 birds allowed. If everyone follows the laws there will be plenty for everyone. Not sure why they cut the fields the way they did at The Great Swamp as really short grass offers no cover for the birds Maybe they are working on it for next year.
  15. Anyone seeing more or less grouse this year so far?
