    I shoot a rifled barrel but I really don't think you need one for most deer hunting. You say you will use your turkey gun. If you use the same gun for deer, make sure that you don't shoot deer slugs through a real tight turkey choke. Just go to a local gun shop, that you trust, and run it by them. Long answer to a short question....smooth bore is fine, with the right set up.

    Yup... One year I shot a real nice buck because the farmer started to cut his corn in the lot below my stand. I saw the guy pull his tractor into the lot ,way off ,and start working. after about 10 mins this deer just walked from the corn into my little patch of woods. It was maybe a 20 yard shot ( shotgun season)

    I use an Allen on my deer shotgun. it's made of neoprene and doesn't pick up anything. I have an old nylon one on one of my rifles and every pricker and brier in the woods is attracted to it. I think I bought the Allen at Dick's for around $15.

    I dont know a whole lot about strings. In the past, when ever I needed a new string I would just go to the archery shop ( not Dick's or Gander) and have them put on what they recommended. Im sure the vapor trail vtx is a real good choice. BTW I bought a new Diamond Stud year before last. These bows are awesome ! In the past I had always shot Hoyt but I like Diamond better.

    Apple trees are always a good sign. I have several scattered through out one of my spots. One of my favorite bow stands is right next to an apple tree.

    Hornady 300gr. XTP with 2 -50gr. pyrodex pellets. They fly awsome out of my Knight inline . I picked up a box of TC shock waves 300gr, last season because the XTP's are getting hard to find. I might try out the TC's this year if I can get them to fly right

    I have forgotten almost everything...knife, gun, ammo, release tags. I have gotten alot better over the years. I double check everything the night before. One time I got half way home after a duck hunt and realized that I left my shotgun at the parking area ( idiot....I know) I leaned it up against the tire of my truck, while loading the canoe and decoys then never grabbed my gun. I found it laying in the grass when I went back but it was a white knuckle ride all the way.
