  1. My buddies and I have shot, I don't know how many, deer right before dark. Even if they dropped on the spot by the time we dressed them out and got them loaded on the 4 wheeler it was well past dark and we still had our guns/bows with us. So if DEC stopped us they could ticket us? Seems like they should put a time limit on it. Like you can be in the woods, tracking or with the deer you got, and still have your gun or bow with you up to one hour or two after dark. too much gray area
  2. They said it all... Get a bow fitted to you and practice. Don't think you have to spend a ton of money to get a good accurate bow either. A good archery shop should be able to hook you up. You can always post here for opinions before you buy. Good luck.

    Gas Cans

I bought one of those new ones when they first came out. Once I used up all the gas I never filled it back up. I went back to the old ones. The new one stinks. I thought about drilling a small vent hole in the top of it but I just put it in the shed and never got back to it.
  4. The whole reason why I gave up on Rage (after only one season) is because of poor penatration. The first season I used them I hit a buck at about 20yrds. I hit some shoulder and the arrow only went in about 5 inches. Fortunatlly I caught a little spine and he didn't go far but it wasn't pretty. I've made simaler shots with fixed blade chistle tips and they did much better. I know alot of you will say "stay away from the shoulder" and you're right. But sometimes these things happen. These Swhackers seem to penatrate alot better than Rage. ....I like how they didn't mention brand names but gave you a good enough veiw of the other broad heads so you could tell what they were.
  5. One big corrupt JOKE!! Rmember, In their minds we are all so stupid, and they are all so crazy smart, that they can say anything and we will buy it. Thats what they think of us. IMHO
  6. Ombama took for ever to release his bith certificat ( and the legality of it is still in question) he will not release his college records, will not release his passport and used executive order to block the release of the Fast and Furious records. All this and the Obama crew is demanding that Romney release 10 years of tax returns because according to Harry Reed, some guy told him that Romney has not paid his taxes in years.Of course we will never know who this "guy" is. And having a successful bussinessman as president in this economy would be awful!!!! Yeah Silly!
  7. I just saw the Dick's ad in the paper this morning. Savage Axis with scope $349.00 and Mossberg trophey hunter, with scope for $319.00. Both have synthetic stocks and come in assorted cals. They seem like good deals to me. I'm sure the scopes are not that great, but thats something you can replace down the road.

  9. Hear ya. Im not cry'n poverty but It just seems like when I buy something it comes out of "our money" when the wife buys something it comes out of "her money" I don't get it. I'd just rather avoid the wole head ache. As long as I get it in the house and into the gun safe before she sees it,,it's all good. If I get caught.... It was only $175.00 honey!!! ( out of "our money") LOL
  10. Get what you want and just don't tell the girlfriend what you really paid. As far as my wife knows I've never spent over $200 on a gun since she's known me. If you're kind of stuck and for some reason have to show her the receipt, or something like that, then i'd say Savage all the way. They sell high end guns, but you can get one of their "entry level" guns for about $400 new. They are very good guns. Accurate, reliable and with real nice triggers. Good luck

  12. What if all a person has, for home/self defense is a rifle?? 308, 30-06, 30-30 what ever.
  13. Makes sense. You dont want to take the gun off safe to empty the chamber.
  14. A little while back I shot a Smith airweight 357. we just had .38 +P's in it and it was more than snotty. Good luck
  15. I have a pair of Wolverines that must be ten years old. They have the cloth camo covering. 800 grams. I had a pair of Bownings that lasted a WHOLE SEASON!!! what a joke. I tossed them at the end of last season but could'nt find antother pair of Wolverines with a little more insulation. I went with Itasca 1600 grams. Fingers crossed. The guy in the boot Dept. told me that most companies changed the compasition of the rubber and that it dose not last nearly as long. He said the key is to wash the mud and dirt off the boots after each hunt. The dried dirt/mud draws the oils out of the rubber and makes the boots crack faster. Who knows???? Good luck
  16. Better his a$$ then someone elses
  17. You're right fasteddie.... even right before deer season, when everyone else has ammo on sale, they are still the highest. Forget about the rest of the year. It's through the roof. I've been getting ammo at Herb Philipsons for the past couple of years. Real good prices. I cant deal with buying ammo from the WalMart Jr. Miss, sales girl who is filling in at the sporting goods counter. Come to think of it I dont think I've ever talked to any Walmart person, in the sporting goods dept. who knew what they were talking about. Not that it's their fault.
  18. If you're talking about owning a gun/round combo to defend yourself and your family with, then I would think you would want something with enough a$$ to put an attacker down quickly and, yes, possibly kill him. Thats why no one uses B-B guns. I could be missing you point. Sorry if I am.
  19. Im not a big fan of Gander Mtn. but all of their ammo (rifle, pistol and shotgun) is right out on the floor. Just grab what you need and check out. They never asked me for a permit. I'm sure its some kind of C.Y.A policy put in place by Walmart. The last time I bought ammo there I told the girl behind the counter that I wanted a box of Remington 30-06. She grabs a box of 30-30 and puts them down infront of me. I told her "no I need 30-06" she then gabs a box of 308 and says "we have thirty -O eight" It was actually more funny than annoying because this girl knew less than nothing about ammo. I had to lean over the counter and point to the box I wanted. Then she says "Oh you mean three zero zero six?" It is Walmart
  20. I've been laid up with an injury since May 1st. so have'nt been doing anything until late last month. No exersise no nothing. I broke out the bow yesterday and could hardly draw it back!!! I have to work on getting back to a strong draw. Next week Im gonna start hitting the woods
  21. Good deal.. Yeah you gotta get a new gun now. It might even be a state law. LOL
  22. Years ago, a friend and I hunted Maine for deer. We didn't have much luck. but one of the better guides used a 303 army rifle, with a scope, to take alot of moose and deer. The second year we hunted there ,he took a nice buck with it. That night he told us " it kills em as good as those store guns" I'd use one
  23. I actually found the receipt today. I bought the gun in October of 1986 at Dick's.$430
