I know two guys (duck hunters) who use the Versa Max. They love them. One guy does the back yard trap like you and never has a problem with target loads. I watched his son shoot up a box of low brass shells without a hiccup. BTW…I shoot 3 1/2" shells for turkey. Necessary? No. but with the right loads they do increase range and throw denser patterns. Look for 2 1/2 oz. loads. Not 2 oz. You can get 2oz. payloads out of a 3" shell.

Ruger American Lefty, is a great choice. They just started making the lefty. Its probably around $400. I have two lefties. I had to special order both of them. A lot of stores/shops will order for you.

I think you're fine. Just stay within the limits of your gun. A lot of Toms have fell to hunters using their old duck/small game shotguns.

Nothing….I took a walk yesterday and saw one small area that they were scratching up and two sets of tracks out in the cut fields. Im thinking that the winter took its toll.

Man…you're lucky. Its been dead around me and there were plenty of birds around during deer season. Im heading out tomorrow to look around. Hope I at least see some encouraging sign. Good luck.

I think the firearms industry realized that most people now scope their rifles. So why bother with the added manufacturing cost of adding iron sights. Off the top of my head, the only bolt guns that come with irons are the high end Rem. 700's (BDL) and maybe some of the CZ's. I have been hunting with scopes for years and have never had an issue with one getting damaged or going off zero in the field. If one ever does, I have another rig standing by, back at the house or camp. Good scopes are tougher than you think.

Just selfish, ignorant lazy slobs . Both drinking while hunting and littering effects everyone else. The drinking more, because of the danger it poses to not only the drunk idiot, but to other hunters. As far as the littering…..I could never understand how it is so easy to carry stuff in but such a huge inconvenience to carry the lighter back load out. By late May early June, I can guarantee that the banks of my favorite trout streams will look like a dumpster explosion. Makes me sick.

When I use to plant a big garden, I had real problems with wood chucks. They are very destructive to plants and crops. Gotta love a .22 short.

Im pretty lucky I guess. I pretty much hunt as much as I want with out taking too much grief from my wife. But after twenty years she still refers to me going "Hunting" with those annoying little air quotes. As if Im really going to some party or strip joint every time I head out. Sometimes I play it up just to get her going but I usually just roll with it.

The #1 thing on my list is to get rid of a big a$$ dead tree that fell across one of the trails. During deer season, we tried pulling it out with ATV's, but its just too big. It has to be cut up.

I saw a tom and 2 hens Sunday. Those are the first and only birds I have seen since November. There was a good flock all fall. Hope the nasty winter didn't crush them too bad.

I walked in the house about 20mins ago and the wife complained that I smelled like cigars..LOL! I stopped by the cigar shop today, just to say hello to a few guys and wish them happy Easter (its a local hang out) but I couldn't resist. I had a nice Punch Robusto….. Happy Easter!!
