I think really great hunts are more important than the size of the animal taken. I mourn the lack of interest in small game and waterfowl hunting these days. I recall many that were memorable and full of action. Deer hunting is great, but I don't want to spend the limited amount of time I have to hunt, doing a lot of work looking for one deer, when I could be hunting small game or ducks. Most of my scouting for deer is done when hunting grouse, pheasant or waterfowl. Some is done when I'm bowhunting. If pursuing one deer becomes an addiction, I think that's a problem. I can't think of any addiction that is good for the man afflicted with it.

This is a monster buck taken in NY. Didn't see this posted anywhere on here already. Jeremy Williams, of Lounsberry, shot this trophy buck on opening day in Tioga County. The buck, which Williams nicknamed 'Big Poppa,' scored 175 6/8 according to Boone and Crockett Club criteria. Upstate NY hunter finally bags ‘Big Poppa,’ a trophy buck he tracked for two years - newyorkupstate.com

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, D, announced on Monday that the state will ramp up surveillance efforts of social media accounts and that law enforcement will take proactive measures, including contacting people on suspicion of using “hate speech.” New York announces it will take citizen surveillance and censorship to the next level – Standing for Freedom Center

If I recall correctly, the American Revolution was fought by about 10% of the population. Today, that's about the amount of the population that won't live on it's knees. Things just haven't gotten bad enough yet for people to feel they have nothing to lose. I'm pretty sure we will not be able to vote our way out of this mess. When things get so bad people feel they have nothing to lose, we may finally find the courage to revolt and reverse this situation.

I have an insulated ARE cap on the back of my pickup set up for camping. I will do an overnight in it hunting for yotes or grouse and squirrel this time of the year. Once I'm in for the night, I have a comfy cot, warm sleeping bag, cooler, fixed light and flashlight, candles for heat and a small propane stove to make boiled water for coffee, tea, instant oatmeal, cup-o-soup etc. I bring bread and cold cuts for lunch and hope to eat a grouse or squirrel for dinner over the campfire. It's great to be able to spend a night anywhere at any time, and if it gets too cold, I hop in the cab and turn on the heat and radio. I keep a bottle in the back to pee in, but #2 in the woods can be chilly. I have a wash basin and cloth I set up on the tailgate when needed and plenty of bottled water to use. I also have some bottled water to use for everything other than drinking. I can only do this solo though. I do keep a small tent in the truck too, just in case it's needed or someone else wants to come, but it's not as cozy as it is in the cap. It's still fun to do, but I hardly ever do more than one night to make a weekend out of a hunting trip. Sure saves me a lot of money though.

Sad the Way NY is

California passed a law last September to ban concealed handguns in virtually the entire state. The legal back-and-forth on whether the law would be allowed to go into effect has been educational. A Republican District Court Judge issued an injunction stating that he thought the law would likely be found unconstitutional. Then, a Circuit court panel with two Democrats and one Republican stayed that injunction, indicating they thought it would be constitutional. A second panel reinstated the injunction, suggesting they believed the restrictions were unconstitutional. We don't know the identity of the judges on this last panel, but I strongly suspect that they were Republican nominees. All this shows how important it is who appoints these judges. By the end of this year, two-thirds of the federal district and circuit court judges will be appointed by Democrats. The only thing that is keeping these lower court judges in somewhat in check is the Supreme Court, but that control is much more tenuous than you might think. By the end of the next presidential administration, Clarence Thomas will be 80, and Sam Alito will be 78. If a Democrat president replaces one or both of those Justices, it will be a very different Supreme Court. -

I wonder how many permits are going to be revoked by NY because people fail to follow these made-up senseless rules. Perhaps that's the plan. -

I feel sorry for my kids and grand kids who will have to suffer with this crap because the older generations of shooters let this happen all the while denying it would ever happen. Too many shooters were never in this fight. Too many kept voting for the clowns that are making these laws and causing these prices. Too many never paid any attention to any of it. “The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.” ― Plato
