Supreme Court ruling NYS
Grouse replied to Fletch's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
NY is going to do everything in it's power to restrict the approval of all CCW permits. All this SCOTUS decision does is force them to be more creative in how they do it. Democrats hate guns and their responses to this ruling prove they hate the SCOTUS and the Constitution. They have no respect for the Rule of Law or individual rights. Study the history of gun restrictions and a SCOTUS ruling against Washington DC's anti gun laws to get an idea what we are in for. Yes, this is a win for the citizens of NY State, but the prize will not be awarded anytime soon. Get ready for millions and millions of your tax dollars being spent to deny you any relief from NY State's firearm oppression. -
NY Gun Owners Score a Win in SCOTUS
Grouse replied to CharlieNY's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
From the reaction by leftist governors, you can bet they will be looking to put as many obstacles and roadblocks in the way of people wanting a CCW. Just look at what Washington DC did after the SCOTUS ruled their handgun laws were unconstitutional. If you think any anti-gun Democrat lawmaker is going to abide by this SCOTUS ruling, you have not been paying attention to their history of unconstitutional lawmaking and their disdain for the SCOTUS in general. They are currently looking into every underhanded thing they can install to make it as difficult as possible for anyone to get a CCW, from huge fees, to training and storage requirements. They will find a way to deny most applicants and any legal challenge will take at least 30 years to go back to the SCOTUS for a decision. -
Some stations charge a lot more than others because they want to focus on servicing cars, not selling gas. They will sell gas if it's worth what they make doing it. That's not gouging. They don't force you to come in to fill up with it.

Biden attacks 5.56 ammo supply to civilians

More proof of which party defends your gun rights and which one hates them. Biden yields to GOP, will keep factory running for AR-15 ammo, senator says https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/jun/21/gop-calls-biden-end-consideration-ban-commercial-a/ -
Red Flag Orders Enable Political Abuse
Grouse replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
"Some critics argue that the only way red-flag laws can work is for them to be deployed far more aggressively. But at what cost? Without extremely robust due process safeguards, that would inevitably strip a great number of innocent people of their constitutional rights. ... The sweeping use of red-flag laws to withhold Second Amendment rights from anyone with the social characteristics common to mass shooters is akin to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's order to round up hundreds of thousands of Americans of Japanese descent in order to prevent espionage or sabotage during the war against Japan. Some terrible outcomes might indeed be prevented, but at the price of lost liberties on a wide scale." —Jeff Jacoby -
Biden attacks 5.56 ammo supply to civilians
Grouse replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Anti-Second Amendment activists have long set their crosshairs on America's most popular firearm, the AR-15. While legislation aimed at banning that rifle is a nonstarter in Congress, Biden and crew are still determined to do everything they can to limit your access to it. In that vein, Biden took a page out of Barack Obama's playbook and is going after the ammunition used for the AR. The government-owned Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Missouri has produced ammo for the U.S. Army since 1941. The factory also sells excess supplies to private sellers such as Winchester, which in turn sells the ammunition on the open market. Lake City happens to be one of the largest manufacturers of 5.56 ammunition, one of the calibers used by the AR-15, producing approximately one-third of all 5.56 ammo sold in the U.S. Now, however, the Biden administration has slated Lake City for closure, a move that would eliminate some 400 to 500 jobs and significantly impact the nation's supply of 5.56 ammo, even as current supply levels struggle to keep up with demand. This closure would "freeze over 30 percent of the 5.56/.223 caliber ammunition used by law-abiding gun owners," observed Mark Oliva, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Worse, he says, "It risks the ammunition industry's ability to surge production capacity for national defense if the costs to maintain the present workforce isn't recouped through sales to the civilian market." If you like your gun, you can keep your gun... -
So-called “Red Flag” orders, or Emergency Risk Protection Orders, are designed to empower the government to confiscate Americans’ firearms without due process of law. Aside from allowing run-of-the-mill malicious actors to indulge personal grudges against law-abiding gun owners, in the current politically-charged environment these laws enable the government to target those with First Amendment-protected political views the government disfavors. Gun owners can be certain Red Flag laws will be abused in this manner, because a prominent gun control advocate has made clear his desire to do so. On October 11, 2019, a person tweeted out a video of Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro in which the conservative political commentator expressed his willingness to defend his family in his own home with a firearm. Failed Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) retweeted the video, along with the statement, “Please tell me this lunatic does not own a gun. Reason 1,578 America needs red flag laws.” This was not the first time Swalwell expressed a desire to abuse government power to attack his political enemies. In 2018, the congressman suggested using nuclear weapons on Americans who resist firearm confiscation. Recalling Swalwell’s threat during the ongoing debate over Red Flag laws, Shapiro tweeted on June 13, I am not in principle opposed to red flag laws. But when sitting congresspeople who screw Chinese spies suggest your right to self-defense should be removed because you oppose his political agenda, that undermines the trust necessary to support such laws. Similarly, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt (R) pointed out the danger Red Flag laws pose during a June 13 appearance on Fox News. Schmitt noted, The Senate Republicans need to back away from this dangerous dance with these gun grabbing Democrats. That’s the first thing that needs to happen because this is a very dangerous road to go down and you’d be eviscerating two fundamental rights. A Second Amendment right and the right to due process along the way. … Why wouldn’t we believe that these folks are going to weaponize Red Flag laws to punish their political opponents? This point about Red Flag laws’ potential to be weaponized against political foes has been made repeatedly by firearm experts. Gun owners need look no further than the overheated rhetoric heaped on them and their advocates whenever a deranged individual commits an atrocious crime with a gun. The NRA, for example, has been labeled a “terrorist organization” by (among others) the San Francisco board of supervisors and the current New York attorney general. Editorialists frequently accuse the NRA of having “blood on its hands.” And members of Congress, sworn to uphold the Constitution, even attack their colleagues for standing by the Second Amendment, with one recently publicly attacking another for supporting the right to keep and bear arms. Given these inclinations, and the increasingly divisive and corrosive tone of politics and public debates, these laws are ripe for abuse. Provided the hostile intentions of those pushing Red Flag laws, these measures pose a mortal danger to the right to free speech, the right to keep and bear arms, and the right to due process under the law.

Last night, news broke that the Biden Administration is taking behind-the-scenes steps to further strangle the already constricted market for ammunition in the United States. The move could result in a reduction of the commercial production of 5.56 caliber ammunition by over thirty percent. The move, if completed, would dramatically reduce availability of ammunition for America’s most popular rifle (and, not coincidentally, the one most targeted by gun prohibitionists). Supplies would undoubtedly plummet and prices would undoubtedly skyrocket, putting the availability of ammunition for self-defense, training, and competition out of reach to many Americans. News of the move was broken by Larry Keane, the general counsel and senior vice president at the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the leading trade association for America’s firearms and ammunition industries. Keane on Wednesday night published a tweet, which stated: “The U.S. Military is actively considering shutting down the sale [of] M855/SS109 ammo from Lake City to the commercial market.” The cartridges mentioned in Keane’s post are very popular forms of 5.56 caliber ammunition, the most common caliber for the AR-15. Close followers of Second Amendment issues will remember that these same rounds were targeted by the Obama/Biden administration under the guise of relabeling them “armor piercing ammunition,” which is banned from commercial sale by federal law. The resulting (and righteous) furor from the Second Amendment community was so intense that it culminated in Obama’s ATF director, B. Todd Jones, quitting his job. Jones had been the first and only confirmed ATF director since Senate approval became required for that post. Lake City is a sprawling ammunition plant in Independence, Missouri, originally established by Remington in 1941 to manufacture and test Ammunition for the U.S. Army. It is currently owned by the government and operated by private contractors and produces well over a billion rounds of ammunition per year. Ammunition in excess of the government’s requirements has long been made available to the private commercial market. Lake City’s output, according to some estimates, accounts for one-third of the 5.56 caliber ammunition available to U.S. consumers. Of course, gun prohibition advocates have a long-standing desire to ban the AR-15 and other types of semiautomatic long guns outright. Joe Biden in particular loves to brag of authoring the so-called “assault weapons” ban that Bill Clinton signed into law in 1994. Congress, however, allowed the ban to expire 10 years later, after a Department of Justice sponsored study was unable to substantiate any significant crime reduction benefit from it. Needless to say, this attack on America’s ammunition supply is just the most recent in a long line of anti-freedom attacks by the Biden Administration.
