Well, I see an ad during turkey season of a guy in the spring woods, in full camo, sitting on the ground up against a tree. I think turkey hunter. Then I see a rifle with a suppressor. I can't help but think, how do those two things connect. Advertising is an art form designed to get people to buy a product. I do not think this ad does that. Maybe the new owners of Remington should break open the wallet and hire a professional advertising firm that understands hunting to do their ads for them.

Black bear or Grizzly?
-
Maybe Remington is embracing bear hunting here. Is there anything else one can hunt with a rifle in the woods during springtime. Just wondering if Remington is hitting the mark with these ads.
-
It's in a springtime setting and a springtime ad. That's turkey season. When you see a bunch of turkey hunting ads and then this one pops up, not to think it's strange would be the exception.
-
A suppressor requires a federal tax stamp from the BATFE, much like a full auto weapon would. They are legal for hunting in a number of states, but few states allow turkey hunting with a rifle. People illegally hunt turkey all the time. That's turkey poaching.

Lead ammo ban again
Grouse replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Biden goes after hunting and fishing rights: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will soon be releasing new regulations that have hunting and fishing organizations raising serious objections. According to Luke Hilgemann, executive director of International Order of T. Roosevelt (IOTR), a hunting and fishing rights conservationist organization, the Biden administration is using a new regulation to ban "the most common forms of hunting cartridges that most people buy off the shelf and requiring that no lead cartridges be used on any federal lands." The new regulation in question would ban the use of lead ammunition and lead fishing weights on federal public lands. The Biden administration is bowing to extreme animal rights activist groups like PETA and using the guise of preventing lead contamination, a scientifically dubious claim, to effectively implement an anti-hunting and anti-fishing agenda. Ironically, the biggest losers from this policy will be America's wildlife, as well-regulated hunting and fishing have been the most effective means for managing and conserving our nation's rich and abundant wildlife. -
New York State Conservation Council · The New York State Conservation Council asks that everyone reach out to NYS Senate EnCon Committee and ask them to oppose the proposed legislation S04976-A that would prohibit the use of lead ammunition in the taking of wildlife on wildlife management areas, state forests, forest preserves, state parks or any other state owned land that is open for hunting and on land contributing surface water to the NYC water supply. This bill has passed the Assembly and has made its way to the Senate EnCon Committee. Below is the contact information of all of the NYS Senate EnCon Committee Members, please call them and ask them to oppose this bill, emailing them doesn't do much, so please call. Also below is the letter being sent to the committee members from NYSCC. NYS Senate EnCon Committee members: Note: the letters after a name are the party affiliation-D=Democrat, R=Republican, WF =Working Families, IP= Independent Party. The # after the entry is the Senate District. Committee Chairman: Pete Harckham (D, WF) Albany 518-2340, District office 914-241-4600 (40) [email protected] Daniel G. It’s the same as bill A2084A which passed the State Assembly on April 28th and was forwarded to the State Senate Encon Committee. In last year’s session, it passed the Assembly and died in the Senate Encon Committee. The issue of banning lead ammo has been around for years and information from DEC and other groups does not factually support the action required in this bill. The New York State Conservation Council is a member and participant in the NYS Lead Ammo Working Group. Through the working group’s studies and research there still is not any definitive information to support this Bill’s action to prohibit the use of lead ammo on State Lands and the NYC Watershed. This bill is seen by many as just a disguised attempt to ban hunting. This action might be more credible if alternative ammo was readily available, but it is not. Present facts do not support this lead ammo ban. The NYS Conservation Council has been, and continues to be, a leading advocate for hunting and conservation. The outdoor sporting community’s contribution to the NYS economy has been estimated to be in excess of 8 billion dollars a year. Historically the sporting community’s contributions in dollars and in support of sound conservation practices has been a mainstay of the economy and recreation in the State. This bill does not deal with the facts. The ammo ban is unjustified and does not give a reasonable alternative. Please consider voting this bill down. More attempts at gun control

Speaking of gun control, this needed to be said, and she does it extremely well. https://www.americas1stfreedom.org/content/this-needed-to-be-said/ -

Were those "Subsonic" loads though? I've seen a .22 LR with subsonic rounds fired with a suppressor and it was whisper quiet. I've heard subsonic loads are quiet even when fired from a non-suppressed rifle, since they don't break the speed of sound. So far haven't been able to find any for any of the rifles I have. Didn't think the guy in the picture was a NY hunter, but it sure appears to be a man hunting in the spring woods somewhere. Not sure what Remington was going for here, unless that's supposed to be a spring bear hunter. I just think the ad missed the mark by a long shot.

I went by the farm today at 8 AM to see if there were any birds around. There were none. They usually hang around the area with the hens until 9 AM or so. The sun was shining there at 8 AM too. Maybe someone else hit the field at dawn and scored, then left before I got there. There was more than one Tom there though, so maybe Wednesday will still be productive. Sadly, the weather looks terrible for Wednesday morning. Not sure if I want to get soaked trying for one. The rest of the week looks lousy weatherwise too. Just another typical turkey season for me.

Not sure what Remington was going for with this ad photo. Some states allow turkey hunting with a rifle and maybe even with a suppressor, but I was just thinking it would be what a turkey poacher would find best to use. Actually, any poaching would be easier with that set up.

If subsonic ammo is used in the right cartridge it can be silent, no?
-
Saw this ad from Remington and couldn't help thinking this might be how modern day turkey poachers outfit themselves. A rifle with a silencer would be a tool they would like.
