  1. It also showed when things are banned a huge black market arises, along with massive violence because of the illegal gains involved.
  2. I wish I could, but I missed. The bird was so close my pattern was probably 3" across and I think I must have pulled it to the right when I fired.
  3. I went out to the farm again this morning at 5 AM and that Tom was in the same roost tree. I set up my hen decoy in the field before dawn and settled in to wait for the Tom to wake up. A few clucks at dawn got that Tom hot and he gobbled his head off. He flew down near the decoy and trotted over to it quickly. He was only 20 or so yards away when I pulled the trigger on the Mossberg 835 pump with a load of Federal 3.5 inch #5 shot and an extra full turkey choke in the muzzle. The excitement was heart stopping. Guess why I don't have a photo to post.
  4. The next time some enlightened leftist challenges your right to own firearms, advocating for the Demos' dream of firearm prohibition, challenge them with the following analogy. According to the latest data, there were 26,031 homicides in the U.S. in the latest year of record. However, 140,000 people, more than five times the number of homicides, died from alcohol-related causes. Drunk drivers are responsible for 28 deaths per day. Notably, it is estimated that alcohol is also a key factor in at least 30% of homicides involving firearms. (Include drugs and that number jumps to about 60%.) Is this an "alcohol problem"? Should Democrats ban alcohol? Or at least should there be red flag laws for alcohol abusers and background checks required before purchasing alcohol? Fact is, the vast majority of alcohol users possess and use this drug legally and responsibly. Likewise, the vast majority of firearm owners possess and use them legally and responsibly. Enacting a prohibition on firearms is tantamount to enacting a prohibition on alcohol. In both cases, only law-abiding users are penalized while outlaws don't obey laws.
  5. Well, the hunting pressure around the farm has calmed down a lot and I roosted a nice bird last night. The Tom was all alone and I saw no hens anywhere. This morning I set up at 5 AM about 75 yards from his tree roost across the stream. He gobbled about 2 dozen times at dawn and then flew off in the other direction into the woods, rather than down into the field I was near. Calling never even produced a reply after he flew down. Maybe give it another go tomorrow morn.
  6. I would love to have a Glock 10mm for hunting, but it's not in the cards right now.
  7. Yes it was labeled 1940, but I agree it looks more like 1840.
  8. When it rains during deer season, I don't hunt from a stand. I dress for it and carry only what I need while I still hunt through the woods. I can move silently and see deer before they see me. The rain also seems to drive my scent into the ground quickly. I use a Kimber Montana in 7mm08 that laughs at the rain and is easy to wipe off when I'm done. As long as it isn't really windy when it's raining, I really feel I have big advantages over the deer when it rains. I've taken many deer when it was raining and most at close range, so I never hesitate to hunt deer in the rain.
