  1. Bald Mountain, near Old Forge, NY. Circa 1935
  2. All of that is in the past now though. I prefer to assess the site we now have for what it's worth and concentrate on what goes on here. Let's keep this one going as much as we can and forget about what was and who is, by choice, gone.
  3. I think we have a country run by idiots, because we have too many idiots in the electorate. The biggest threat to this country isn't "white supremacy", as Biden would like you to believe. The biggest threat is stupid people.
  4. They do a cool walking dance and nobody is really sure why. They also do a sky dance at dusk when mating and it is something to see. https://www.birdnote.org/listen/shows/woodcocks-silly-walk
  5. We start seeing bear by our bird feeders in early April and they keep coming as long as they find seed in the feeders. In April people around here start calling them "bear feeders". I was sitting on my deck smoking a cigar one evening in April a couple of years ago when I caught movement directly under the deck below me. A bear in the 300 lb range emerged to see if the feeder had been filled. I yelled at it and it ran only 20 yards away, turned broadside and stood there looking at me for 2 or 3 minutes before wandering off as if it was pissed. I now stop filling the feeder in early April.
  6. There is nothing wrong with a civil debate. In fact, that is how discussions actually resolve issues. It's when debates turn into personal attacks that add no evidence to the side one is arguing that things become unacceptable and corrosive. There is a distinct lack of that type of thing on this site lately. I never thought I'd see that happen here.
  7. Clarence Imel with a mule deer he shot in eastern Montana -October 1956. Clarence poses with his German 8 mm Mauser he got in WW2.
  8. Two woodchuck decided to make themselves at home under my shed this week and I noticed they were there yesterday morning. They were coming out onto the lawn to feed on the newly mowed grass. I took the first one out with a head shot at 20 yards. It just dropped it's head and laid there. The other one ran back under the shed when I moved to reload the rifle with the break action barrel. About 10 minutes later it felt safe enough to pop it's head out from under the shed and it took a head shot too. The rifle had enough power to snuff the lights out on both of them with one shot to the head at 20 yards. I like not having to worry about the noise or hearing protection when I use this air rifle.
