Brush Wacker -
Tomorrow I took off to finish tiling the bathroom, plus I have to drop the ATV off for a recall. Then Sat morning I am heading up to the property with the ATV and a brush cutter we got. I can't wait to get up there to check out the food plots and start cutting some needed trails. This brush cutter should make it a lot easier, its like a powerful weedwacker with a blade on it and handle bars. I'll take a crap load of pictures too. We need to do a nice trail to the back of the property because it was hard to walk back in January let alone now with all the growth. Lots of low brush and saplings to take out and a bunch of downed trees to cut up. I hope we can get it done this weekend and mark the trails.

I'd have to agree with SteveB's post and WNY's post. I like watching his shows, I'm not a fan when he hunts over bait stations, maybe because I never had the opportunity. Regardless, he did break the law and as a hunter it is your responsibility to know the law in the state your hunting and purchased a license in. In addition, ignorance is not an excuse. Is it going to make me stop watching his show if its on, Nah, I'll watch it. I'm not a fan of his music btw And to Fantails comments, he has been a great promoter for 2nd amendment rights and hunters rights which I am 100% for. I guess chalk this up to another thing I'm on the fence to.

send letters for crossbows in NY
burmjohn replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
SteveB, Whether you realize it or not, your giving off the attitude that since you shoot recurve you are somehow better or more experienced or something (I can't think of the right word). Regardless, as Chevy said, your dealing with a generation including me, at 32, almost 33 years old that has never shot a recurve. The first thing introduced to me was a compound. So bringing up points about releases, sights, stabilizers means nothing in your arguments for crossbows (for me). I had the same feeling the Chevy had as if your trying to attack those who shoot compounds just to get your pro crossbow opinion across. I respect your views on trying to push crossbows through. I am on the fence, I think that the DEC will have to do some adjusting if crossbows are allowed in the archery season. Things will need to change, as by shown in other states the success rates of crossbows are higher then those using regular bows. Just as we have seen the DMP's decrease this year, they will need to adjust either season lengths and or remove the "Either Sex" or "Anterless" tags that we have now for use in Bow because of the increase take as a result of adding crossbows into the season. In addition to the those that may choose to switch over to a crossbow for archery season, there will, with out doubt be an increase in hunters in the woods which will have a direct effect on the number of deer taken which goes back to my previous point of changing the archery season. It is what it is, if it ends up in bow, there will be changes coming for all bow hunters. Maybe not immediately, but it will happen. -
It would be nice if they listed examples for questions like these on the official DEC site.

Rangefinder, who has one, any good?
burmjohn replied to burmjohn's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I think I am going to pull the trigger tonight, but any comments on the brand? I know their scopes are good, and it Leupold bought this company back a few years ago. So you know the quality and warranty are superb. -
Whoops read that wrong lol, some reason I read that as would not be illegal. Ok.. C'mere deer and crap like it is 100% illegal... Long day guys, looking forward to some relaxing when I get home from work.
-
Yes they are in place for all seasons.
-
Kinda surprised that would be legal. Couldnt that enable the deer to eat foods / material that its not accustomed to?
-
I don't think you can use C'mere deer... I could be wrong. Edit *** http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8310.html Q: What types of attractants are legal for deer hunting? A: You may use cover scents and lures, such as doe urine, for deer hunting. However, it is illegal to place a salt block or mineral lick on lands inhabited by deer at any time of year. It is also illegal to feed deer. Some attractants that are marketed for deer are liquids or dissolving powders which deer may not directly consume, but the attractants may entice deer to feed on the material which absorbed the attractant. These types of produces would not be legal. Based on that above, a mineral lick would be 100% illegal. However, I am not sure about C'mere deer?
