how do the deer react to the noise, I've heard the recurves are quite a bit louder than the compounds....haven't made up my mind as to which I'll purchase yet.
-
uh oh, you may have opened the head shot debate with that one........
-
I say you should go in and confront them....
-
not at all....just having fun with those who think deer are traumatized or die if they lose a loved one......I've been around long enough to have heard every comment possible that people use to justify taking or not taking a deer, not that they have to, but they do...once again just having some fun with it.....
-
I just came up with a new excuse if I shoot a fawn......all I gotta say is "some prick killed it's mother and either I put him out of his misery, or he would have died a slow lingering death from loneliness and depression."
-
yeah, I find the same...it kinda has a pale look to it and lacks some flavor, if I shoot a fawn I always say "it's gonna make for some mighty tender vittles".....helps me sleep better.
-
you only take your kids hunting if you can still kill something?....that's not really a good rational for wanting a two buck a year rule.
-
holy crap! you killed the whole family!.........at least they got to spend the holiday together.
-
I really try not to form an emotional attachment to the animals I'm hunting......if I have two dmp's I'll shoot the fawn as well as the mother so it won't get depressed and suffer if that's going to make some sleep better at night, what's next not shooting ducks and geese because they sometimes come in pairs? wouldn't want to turn Ms Mallard into a widow by killing her husband........and shooting a turkey out of a flock in the fall? that's not for the faint of heart, I did it once and all I heard afterwards was the mother hen calling for hours trying to get the flock back together, I almost stuck an ice pick in my ears to make it stop....heart wrenching for sure.
-
how do you know they're cops? did you confront them and they identified themselves or is that what you heard?
-
a little off subject, but last months NY Outdoor News had a photo from the past submitted by a guy who bought it at an antique shop and he had no info on it, it was taken in East Islip on Long Island......I have the same photo on my wall with a couple relatives in it and know the full story, so don't be surprised if someone knows the whereabouts of that deer.
-
true, but the bottom line is you can only take two legally antlered deer......when you can take them differs by area.
-
she must have heard we're in for a mild winter......
-
I looked at some models with that and didn't like the way it sat against my face....maybe there's left and right hand models?..........nevermind, just watched the video and its on both sides of the stock.
-
right, my point is they fatten up no matter what because that's what they do....it has no bearing on what type of winter we're going to have.
-
I would have no problem with a one buck a year rule, I would think that someone taking two mature bucks a year is worse for the herd than someone taking just one of any size.
-
I notice a lot of people commenting on the amount of fat on deer and it being an indication of a bad winter on the way. Is that really the case or more a matter of there being a bumper crop of food to be had? I mean, does a deer decide there's no need to fatten up because it knows that it's going to be a mild winter?

I think Horton may have been taken over by Tenpoint/Wicked Ridge..........check out Cabelas, they have an offer up that if you buy one of the two, you trade your Horton in and they give you a voucher worth a couple hundred bucks.

-
I bought an Ameristep.......used it about 6 times before it started to fall apart, so I don't recommend one of those.
-
aren't the tags good for either sex during the youth season?
-
no, my fantasy's do not include anything even close to football......
-
what state, if you don't mind telling?
-
you really need to read the regs. yourself to get the correct answer...someone who is on Long Island may give you a different answer then someone who hunts upstate. L.I.'s archery season is actually their "regular season", so both regular season and bow/muzzleloader either sex can be used to take bucks during the same season.

NY #1 in worst state to deer hunt in
jjb4900 replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in General Chit Chat
Hunter's Beware!! NYS is terrible for deer hunting, don't waste your time travelling to this State if you want to harvest a deer.....turn your attention elsewhere.
