QDM Meeting with Neighbors
orion replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
"I don't think it's too hard to judge age on the hoof, but it's asking a lot in the beginning I feel." This isn't as easy as you think. I have watched shows where experts aged deer and they are looking at pictures trying to decide if they are 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 yr olds They don't necessarily agree and its all a guess.Try doing this at 75 yards with that buck trailing a doe through the woods. Also I wish some of these QDMA people would start talking deer density and habitat as nyantler mentioned. Seems to be a topic they wish to avoid. -
I guess there are two trains of thought here 1) Ncountry, and myself believe that your hand's anchor point of being in the correct place and your arm having the correct form take precedence over where the string might contact your face. Using this anchor and whatever release and d-loop are used to measure the drawlength of the bow you will be ordering. 2) Most others(If i am not mistaken) believe that you measure the drawlength based on your anchor of where the nock contacts a certain part of your face(cormer of mouth?), nock point anchor takes precedent of hand anchor.
-
If you are arguing either of these two points You missed the point!
-
No one is claiming that your drawlength changes when you add a d-loop! And no one is claiming the bows drawlength changes when you add a D-loop!
-
No need to be sarcastic
-
Not trying to argue but trying to learn and understand. Bowtoon seems like he knows his stuff just trying to understand. Don't won't to just be told I would like to understand why.
-
Does your anchor point effect your drawlength?
-
Bowtoons or anyone else Can you explain why you don't agree with this statement?
-
Bowtoons, That didn't really answer how you get a measurement. although its good information to correct a drawlength. How do you get a length?
-
And is this correct? If not why?
-
And that question is meant to be serious cause I would like to learn and just don't get it.
-
Bowtoons and Moog can you explain how you measure drawlength?
-
I believe the wingspan measurement is a ball park figure based on the average size person. It will get you close but with today's compounds I would think you need a more accurate method which would be actually drawing with a marked arrow then fine tuning it from there
-
Culvercreek, I have no idea but i believe thats what they all do. Anyone else know?
-
Ok I am still confused, thick headed or whatever here I am going to get measured for a bow. I go to archery shop they have me hold bow elbow slightly bent, they tell me to draw back the bow and come to an anchor point which puts my right forearm(right handed shooter) in a straight line with arrow and keep my elbow slightly up. I now do this with an arrow that's marked and measure to the deepest part of grip from the nock add 1 3/4 and get my drawlength. Is this correct?
-
So you should change your anchor point to accommodate bow release and dloop? Anchoring somewhere else then what might be more comfortable and more repeatable for you?
-
So release dloop nothing effects the drawlength of the bow you order? just pull bow back till nock reaches eye?
-
"Frankly, if I were putting good money into a new bow, I would go into the bow-shop and tell the guy hand me a bow with a D-loop already installed, and give me that release over there, I'll pull it back and you measure me up for draw length and order a bow of that draw length. That's the kind of thing that the OP was asking about and that was my recommendation. I would not recommend that anyone be measured up for draw length with known elements of that length being left out. Why on earth would I do that? I do not want to start off by changing this and adjusting that. Just put the stuff on there and get it right the first time. Why does that concept confuse anybody?" I agree Doc But reading a lot of posts I see the reason they say most people shoot a bow to long for them.
-
"I haven't quite pinpointed it yet, but after reading all this I've come to the conclusion that something changes........." Exactly! And since the original poster doesn't have anything to "change" cause he is starting new, the bow must be adjusted to what he is going to using (fingers, different releases and yes the dreaded D-Loop.)
-
Remember I am walking into a shop to buy a bow If I use or don't use a D-loop (keeping all other things the same), the bow i order will have different draw lengths depending on that d-loop
-
Let me correct it the Bow I order will have a shorter drawlength
-
You keep compensating with other devices. If I keep everything the same except one bow has d-loop and the other doesn"t (shooting off string) The bow with the d-loop will have a shorter drawlength. This is simple.
-
"lmao you guys just cant seem to grasp the FACT that you dont change a bows draw length with a dloop. PERIOD" I understand the "bow" doesn't change "then they would ask if you will be using a loop and set you up with the correct release and draw length bow." Exactly you get it! because a release and D-Loop will effect what drawlength bow you order.
-
Ok I walk into bowshop to get set up as first time archer Looking at compounds i get measured up I get a release aid and all the goodies to go with my new bow. I pick out a bow and am ordering one. The draw length of the bow will be different depending on whether i use a D-loop or not.
