  1. I am looking for actually #s not percentages. Realistically please. Deer Density per square mile. Elmer Fudd, do you think half of the 1.5 year old's will make it to 4.5? or is that wishful thinking? just asking Thanks
  2. Without making this into a AR pissing contest, I would like to know what people feel is the right population for ARs Looking for the # of deer per square mile for each of the following: 4.5 + bucks 3.5 bucks 2.5 bucks 1.5 bucks Doe to Buck ratio
  3. And some against MANDATORY AR's are selective and hunt mature deer VOLUNTARILY! It's a choice they want all hunters to have.
  4. "It already is limited. " Yes and no with a archery and muzzleloader stamp you can shoot 2 doe. I believe you can anywhere in the state so theoretically a lot of doe can be shoot in any area without much control. That's why ALL anterless tags should be DMU specific.
  5. "They have tons of deer and tons of BIG BUCKS." Maybe that's why it works there. Shooting all the doe here especially in ares with low populations is the worst thing for QDM. You need a large overpopulation of deer then you add some form of antler restriction and doe management. This "shoot a doe if you want meat" is whats killing the QDM in NY. There are large portions of the state that don"t have the deer population to support QDM. Being able to shoot 3 doe in almost any part of the state without any control over where is ridiculous. Think about it. If you want lets say 1-4.5 mature buck. You will most likely need 2- 3.5, 3-2.5, 6- 1.5 year old bucks. At a almost unattainable 2:1 doe buck ratio you will need 36 deer per square mile. That's of course if your satisfied with 1 mature deer per square mile and you think you can get a 2:1 ratio.
  6. not much either by me. 2 doe and a fawn a few times although i haven't really been scouting much cameras aren't showing any promise either.
  7. I would think you have some airspace above your property. Maybe in the wide open its different but if I had a motorized little plan swooping over my head while in my backyard i would be annoyed to say the least. Now how close can it come I have no idea but would assume it would be trespassing at some point.
  8. I am sorry tughillhunter> Guess i wouldn't come on a forum and ask what to do before i met the man, Not much in the way of class for me. And then ask a guy for permission to do stuff on HIS land that was specifically added to the deed so he can't!
  9. "The good thing about it is when we subdivided and we took the deed to the approx 30 acres we included a covenant in the deed that restricts the sale or use of the adjacent lands for purposes of hunting, hiking, camping, 4wheeling and the like" So it should restrict you also. Sounds like its been illegal for you to hunt there already.
  10. I think some of you are idiots, The things people think of! and you haven't even met him! Build the buildings Great idea! That is until he builds on the property line! OOPS not much room for you to shoot now is there.
  11. You can also look at whats hurting hunting and try to change that. I feel deer #'s in certain areas need to be built up. Its hard to get a teenager interested when you sit in the woods for a weekend and your see nothing! Hunting attitudes! Why did you shoot such a small buck! are you kidding me. That hunter is doing more harm then he knows. Hunting shows on tv.
  12. What does everyone have ? Recommend? Place to buy? Thanks
  13. wdswtr, Is there a minimum required amt to purchase if they come spread it? That seems to be the problem where I inquired.
  14. Just put down a ton of lime with a 3 pt spreader. Used granular lime to help with spreading but adds to cost. Was wondering if there's a more cost effective way without buying huge amounts.
  15. "there are approx. 1 million whitetails in NY and 20,000 coyotes" That's interesting! I know i have spent 2 years in the past 5 where I saw more coyotes then deer in the hunting season,
  16. My daughter swims, I have always thought "What a job! lifeguard at a swim meet"
  17. 9 deer + 4 tails better than last year D for 4F
  18. For the shoot a doe instead crowd. There are lots of areas in the state that the deer herd can't support the "shoot a doe instead attitude". To do ARs you need a large population of deer first, then you pass AR, then you shoot does to make up for the lack of bucks that will be taken in the first few years, then you hope things didn't get screwed up.
  19. "After she has grown up and old enough to drive, she would choose the corvette over just about any other junk type of car... Including a pinto.." In reality it's drive a pinto or get a ride in a corvette every few years and walk the rest of the time,,,,,, Now ask them to choose. Do you really think there is going to be a big buck behind every tree?
  20. I don't think its a Pinto / Corvette comparison. That would be great but that's where AR proponents go wrong. What about the WALKING! That's what a lot of people would be doing. Would you rather have the pinto or walk! That corvette isn't coming along as often as you think. and if it does What's the challenge in that?
  21. NY Antler, I agree with that just trying to point out a 45 deer per square mile density. Don't know where that is in NY . Not by me.
  22. Does QDMA play a part in it? Lots of people pushing "pass the small buck shot a doe" attitude. No does = no population growth. If hunters want mature bucks Lets say a 4 1/2 old, even 1 that old. I WOULD THINK( I don't know) there has to be 2 -3 1/2 year old, 4 -2 1/2 and 8- 1/12 old's That brings us to15 bucks in an area! At a VERY conservative 2 to 1 doe to buck ratio we need 30 doe! That's 45 deer in your hunting area. Even if your hunting 600+ acres that 45 deer per square mile. How many areas have that? Certainly not mine.
