What's the farthest/shortest shot you've made.
moog5050 replied to mowin's topic in General Chit Chat
If I hunted in areas where the norm was shooting 300-500yds, I would seriously work on it to ensure I am capable. I would not shoot hat far based on the way I practice now. But its not needed - at least for me - to kill deer. Same with a bow. I have yet to pass on a big buck because he was outside of 30yds or so. To each their own. -
He plays it off really well too. Calls em in but only to 200plus to make it a “challenge”.

I don’t think Andrew is selfish - well I didn’t think that before anyways!

It’s amazing to me how some people make comments without knowing the facts or law. Immigrants, legal or undocumented, do not come to the the US to live off benefits. In fact, studies show that they pay more into the system than they receive. Legal immigrants cannot get welfare for their first five years of residency, with few exceptions, mostly at the state level. Illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare except for rare circumstances like emergency Medicaid. So while I agree that borders should be secure, blaming our welfare deficit on immigrants is simply inaccurate. That’s a homegrown problem. But people are free to say whatever they want to support their claims, accurate or not.

That's what treeguy says, but its not hard to estimate when you take the 50yd shots. lol And night hunting (ok all hunting) has me questioning my shooting skills too!
-
If a member buys the truck, I will throw in a guided night yote hunt with @treeguy. Just be sure to bring your own rangefinder or live with the 1-400yd "ish" estimate.

LOL - if ours show up, feel free to keep them Jeremy!

as much as I hate cats tearing up my carpet, I agree. My wife glues little rubber covers on their claws. lol

And for what its worth, I do suspect there are many many illegals out west. But speaking Spanish as a first language does not equate to being illegal. We have a large population of 1st language Spanish speakers in Rochester. Most are from Puerto Rico and are already US citizens. Pretty much every population of immigrants to the US came here with little or no English skills. That changes within a generation. My grandfather spoke Italian and his parents only spoke italian but no one else since his generation does.

Having a mixed family (me being Italian and Swedish primarily) and my wife being Guatemalan (who clearly looks latina), I will simply offer my opinion. There are legal avenues to enter the country and both my wife and her sister are US citizens - although her sister crossed illegally decades ago (but she still paid her taxes, worked and raised a family). But, for most immigrants, the chances of getting in legally are next to nothing, especially those without a special skill, expertise or family already citizens of the US. Nonetheless, I believe we should control the flow of illegal immigrants as every country should have the right to control its borders and decide who can enter. That said, I really don't blame those trying to enter illegally. I suspect there are very few of us that have spent time in the areas or types of areas from where these people come. If you did, you would understand that unlike here in the US, there is literally 0 opportunity to create a better life for your family. I see it with my wife's siblings. They simply don't have a chance to change their impoverished lives as hard as they try. If I were in that position and thought taking the risk of crossing that border might change my life and, more importantly, the life of my children, I would take the shot too. So perhaps a little empathy/sympathy is appropriate for those that are seeking a better life - obviously there are bad apples in every bunch but painting all those entering illegally as gangbangers and drug dealers really isn't an objective viewpoint either. Unfortunately, even the those that are simply trying to do better for their family must deal with the consequences of trying to cross illegally. We should all be very grateful to live in this great country with more opportunity than anywhere else on earth.

Biz could you take care of my goats for a week? Maybe a temporary pen next to the pool? Thanks buddy!

Happy BDay!

lol - the jeep is cute
-
Hope so. I suspect its like my Harley. Any expensive used vehicle takes time, but it will sell when you have the right buyer really looking for a used raptor specifically - this one sells itself. Plus, $70k plus for a new one ain't in everyone's budget.
-
Make it happen Tacks - whats a little mileage penalty for the baddest pickup ever made. Be proud top have you drive the sissy truck and I am confident you won't have a single problem with her.

From which the word precocious was derived.
-
lol - you still have your chance - but you got a new lease didn't you. haha Driving naked in the truck and in the jeep have two very different meanings. I promise any potential buyer, I never did the former.

I get it Biz, but it still leaves a lot to take into consideration. You sight in that far, and you need to adjust for shorter shots and you still have very significant wind drift with mild wind. My point is that it takes some real experience to shoot 500 plus. Its not just aim and shoot. Then again, at least around here, there really is no need. -
wow that thing is small. Not sure I have seen a fawn that tiny.

If treeguy is calling yardage, I may take some 3-400yd shots on yotes thinking its 150-ISH! -
It will sell. Put it up on autotrader and cargurus yesterday. Priced on the lower end of most of them and I am sure its in better condition with extras.

I don't practice that far which means I should not take a kill shot that far. Luckily it really hasn't hindered by hunting. I agree that 300 plus is a poke, for me at least. -
except in quebec. Those French bear stay put. lol

500 yds has some real drop and wind influence with any caliber. Ex. 6.5 creedmoor (great ballistics) still has a 33" drop and 17" drift from 200-500yds with a 10mph crosswind.
