Found plenty in the swamps decent to little guys but not the giants I've seen during bow

Look for the roost and follow the birds they will fall into a pattern early season ducks stick to water until the second to third cold snap then they will hit fields like its no bodies business just gotta put the scouting time in to find them just look for a big body of water where you have seen ducks during the summer then either follow em or hunt the roost when they come back which I don't recommend the second but people do it

a lot of the geese this time of the year are in the lake or near it i have couple farms i hunt for honkers in the Feb. Mar. season and its a blast getting the last crack at the birds but the goose population has been on the increase for the past few years it wouldnt be no big deal finding a flock of 200 300 birds in a field come september but now we are finding 800 to 1000 birds in september and thats not even with the migrators arriving yet its amazing me every year with the amount of birds in my area

if you can go out and use a howler and locate them then set up down wind of them if you call for them they will try and get down wind of whatever you sound like if its a cotton tail in distress or a mouse whatever you decide to use as a call, thats the key is out smarting their nose first second is their eyes if you hunt during the day time they are very difficult to hunt up here in 8a i have been out smarted many times but just be consistant and if you can make it so you can make them come right to you then you got them just dont miss if your hunting during the day time try and use a decoy with a call either electronic or a mouth call what ever your preference is but sometimes if the yotes sense something aint right they may hang up and if you can take out a 223 and a shotgun then you have the long range for when they hang up and the shotgun for the close range if they charge in to the decoy

i use a bow when i go with like a judo tip or a field tip or you can sneak up on em and whack em in the head with a big stick or rod what ever your preference is but its a blast with the bow me and my buddies pick a day and go out to local spots and just shoot frogs all day then come home cut em up and eat em

Predator Season 2010 - 2011 Success Thread
Nyhunter325 replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
well last night my buddy and i decided we would try and do a little coyote hunting at night so we drove down to a field not far from his house and got out at the field and went up to the top of the hill and sat there for about an hour then we shined the spot light and we seen the eyes of a fox or a coyote couldnt tell at the time but my buddy got his gun up and we thought he was gunna walk to the top of the hill where he always goes and we had the wind in our face and everything was perfect so i decided to do a little calling with my mouth so we shut off the light and i start calling well when we first seen this yote hes was well over two hundred yards and i called for about three minutes and when i stopped i could hear this yote running toward us and i told my buddy to get ready with the gun and i did a little squeak with my mouth and turned on the light and when i turned on the light what a surprise i got this yote was about fifteen to twent yards away from me looking right at me he stood there for a second and i was thinking man that yote was thinking about getting closer so my buddy shot and missed and the yote ran off to about eighty yards and my buddy shot again and missed again and he looked right at me after he shot and was like did i get him and i said well do you see him in the scope and he answered no and then i preceded to tell him then you missed so we packed up our stuff and went to another field but thought some of you would enjoy hearin this little excitment we had the other night i kno i did well happy hunting..... Here is one that will generate some debate.

In this type of an idea where it would benefit everyone it solely depends on the individual to take part in this practice and have everyone who hunts in the area to participate in this part of deer management now for i would participate because i know the outcome of this would benefit me and others more the less we would also have to start taking the more mature deer in the herd after the thinning out of the does this would bring balance to the buck to doe ratio the only problem with this is that there are a great diversity of meat hunters and a great number of trophy hunters... and to convince the ones who do not want any part in helping to balance out the herd or the deer population in general is going to be a obstacle all in its own i guess one way to do it is to show those hunters who oppose this idea that it works in other places so why wouldnt it work here and it could produce big trophy bucks i guess that may be my opinion but its also a general fact that an idea like this would face. i kno that some people dont bother and think its a small group that makes up the numbers and thats it but its the hunters them selves that help make up the regulations and tag limits for the state not a political group hunters them selves are a dying breed but we make a difference one person at a time

congrates on the band they are hard to get birds are nice but bands are better keep up the good work "whack em and stack em"
-
actually i usally do a big load of jerky that comes out good but we shot three last hunt the birds were acting really odd than usal so i think they figured out our game but i will have pics soon of most of the hunts our group has been on this season
-
the 2010 early goose season has been good my buddies and i have shot close to 100 birds so far all thanks to the big foot and hardcore decoys and good calling going out tomorrow scouted it and seen close to a 100 birds in the field hope all goes well i will have pics hopefully after the hunt
-
second day went great came back with seven but had to many flocks to count come in no bands this time but some of the migrators are up and about in new york but its a good start to the season aint nothing like a good crisp morning with geese decoying into your spread at 6 30 in the morning but an awsome day for the guys
-
my friend went out and got skunked but checked our back up field and it has about 100 to 200 geese in it so i think we have a spot for second day hopfully its a good one how did everyone else do?
-
for early goose season i have been waiting since may when turkey season ended its been a long time but well worth it got all the stuff ready to go....
-
does will have a distinct pointed hooves and bucks will be rounded thats the way i see it when i track deer
-
shot one jake but my second consecutive bird 4 1/4 beard 1/8 spurs
-
just last year me and my buddy tracked one through the snow around feburary we tracked it for about 2-3 hundred yards and saw it crossing a small creek about 80 yards away from us in orleans county in lyndonville

but in the end of all of this the anti what ever it is is still going to try and find some thing to fight about but i think of this as step up for the huntin sport for a chance for people to see what it is about.

i wouldnt be scared that email doesnt even sound threatening at all
-
i do it twice during the spring and then 4 weeks before season that way i can see what deer have been in the area it sounds weird but it works for me
