  1. raccoon is front and center...look for the ringed tail...I almost missed it as well...didn't the toad
  2. NYBH...has good advise and may I add that if you notice a purple tinge developing around the outer edges...that's a good sign of phosphorus deficiency in your soil....that is some times over looked...its what helps plants convert starches to sugar...and really shows in brassicas....so a good mixing of say 10-10-10 with 10-20-20 would not be a bad thing...also using a 10-20-20 is good for your legumes...they produce their own nitrogen....I good quality soil analysis would give exact amounts needed of each per acre
  3. Burt. I put up all my metal ladder stands by my self...and yep it can be a beast but to help.... this is what I do... I bring two "D" stakes...and I pound them in in front of each leg and loosely tie the legs to the stake...that way I can "walk" the stand up to the tree with out the legs popping up on me
  4. awesome pics...I wanted to reach out and swat that horse fly on the fawn!...real fantastic clarity and color...Thanks
  5. Even though in the past ...due to rock picking...which I didn't do as much this year...I planted in mid July and yes it did get small ears...I'm thinking that the ears my be bigger this year for I got it in earlier...though the dry weather we had held off growth for a while....Also I broadcast ...not drill and over seed it in order to beat the birds and deer...as you have seen we have a lot of turkey....so the corn is pretty close together...which will effect cob size ...I would think...all of it always germinates...The soil it's in was virgin ground and really acidic...even with the lime I added...it takes several years for me to get the ph where I want it...the deer are still munch on the new growth and once the frosts hit they will hit the leafs again...by January it will be nothing but bent over stalks..... So the gist is...I plant to lower road hunters view until the pines fill in more...to give them a feel of security to get them out during the daylight...and a place to bed in....for 9.00...well corns up to 11+ now...but they also get some food value out of it...I can't go wrong
  6. after the DEC came out to our goats being yanked out of the barn and eaten ...they told us if they'er near your pastures have at it...they also came back the next day and killed 7 15# roasting chickens(live weight) ...got them out of a 5 ft high fence...during the day
  7. I don't get it...been hunting 30 some years with Mr.B. and we have yet to get into the same stand...even turkey hunting I sit under the raised blind calling and he's in the blind....ever thought of getting them out before season to just sit in a blind to watch...getting them use to ..one sitting still...and two seeing the animals...Letting them get use to being independent out in the woods gives ppl a whole different perspective.....set stands so you can see each other....just instruct her not to shoot in your direction....especially if your one of those minute men mentioned in another post...lol...hahaha
  8. Yep that's what I thought...and don't you have to sign over BEFORE the hunt as well?
  9. it is and gander MNT and I think Dicks sell it as well....A lot of ag stores sell it also....illegal to use not to sell in NY
  10. isn't selling your tags illegal?...I don't know
  11. Well the youngins are still hanging around ...hope he makes it a few more years
  12. Looks like they are growing like mad...or older poults...like I said we have lots of them....Some times it pays to leave the weeds alone....there is a nasty to me.... ground hugging succulant that gets tiny star shaped wht flowersI don't know the name...just can't get rid of it...any ways it produces billions of tiny little seeds...I think thats what they are eating right now...the sorghum just started heading out
  13. I have a remington ....rivers edge and gorilla....all sturdy ...but prefer the ones with flip up gun rail...gives you more options as far as bow and gun...good rest for gun or a way to add a blind type cover for both...or just flip it out of the way for sit down bow shots...I tend to stand
  14. wow this post is revealing .....bunch of unhappy woman out there I think...or just relieved...lol
  15. a few guys that hunt at camp do not eat deer meat and their wives don't want it brought home so we average 5-7 deer one usually goes to the ppl that keep an eye on camp...and like G-man I cut jerky until I'm sick of it...takes a lot of deer meat to make a pound of jerky...then there's summer sausage and Italian sausage with that many deer I don't need to scrape bone to get as much as possible so it's the best cuts and then the shepherds get fattened up for the cold winter on all scraps...nothing goes to waste
  16. his first choice may not have been 4g...so he could have gotten one....We've done that in the past...8x has not given out seconds and we went with 8N first then asked for 8X and gotten one....now we usually ask for 8x first...just to hedge are bets sorta speak...
  17. 2 for 8N ...didn't try for 8x this year no time for camp...besides first time in a hunt champion ship...two person teams across the country scoring is on # of rack points not size or spread and does count as a point...8X is in a lower DMP unit...just another excuse to hold off on smaller buck ...no prizes just good fun with teams egging each other on
  18. that sums it up for me...great watching and a tad frustrating...Ive had buck running doe right under my stand...but moving deer for me on a bow shot...well they can just keep right on moving....and It's always the doe that stops under the stand while the buck waits just out of range for her to decide where to move......most takes are early when the boys are more concerned with each other
  19. I'd call the DEC and tell them a agent made a mistake and they can check your records you've never hunted that area and want a chance at the area you asked for....they will try to work with you...at least they did me
  20. Wow you did him a favorwhy would anyone take a head on shot!? ???
  21. ??? ...OMG...Hahahaha...dang thats better than going to the state fair!!
  22. That looks like a fine Steuben county buck...good luck
  23. Wash outs but plots are doing pretty good...a few are a tad spotting but I'll fix that and a few are just germinating so still look like dirt...remember my $9.00 bag of feed corn I planted as a screen ...it should be tasseling out soon....
