  1. I know there's been multiple conversations on here about rut timing or stages of rut activity and conversations about the existence of a 2nd rut. Which, I am a believer in a 2nd rut cycle/peak involving breeding of does missed in first rut cycle and early dropped fawn does with good nutrition. My question is about observations this year...seemed like the main rut was more of a trickling in rut this year with some observed rut activity but just not the normal high intensity as usual. Then it seems like the 2nd rut cycle kicked into gear over the last few days. My observations seem like this 2nd rut cycle this year had a higher intensity than the 1st rut cycle. My questions...did anybody else experience that and would something like that be more related to an area just based on when and where does were coming into heat or is that something to be expected with somewhat of a trickling 1st cycle rut rut? Sorry for such a long winded question but really curious what you guys&gals observed too.
  2. I dont mean to leave this group high and dry but I got a buck this morning at 8:12. Heard a buck grunting off in the distance but couldn't see him. So, I made a couple doe estrus bleats and within 30 seconds I could hear a deer coming. In came a medium sized 8Pt looking for the doe. I think it was the same one I passed at 11 yds during bow and maybe the same one I passed on yesterday at 70yds. He was out of passes this late in the season and offering a chip shot at about 35yds. Plus it was pretty cool that I called him in. Good luck to the rest out there working to bail from the group.
  3. Trying to add pic but for some reason site hasn't allowed me to add pics since last year...
  4. Had a little luck this morning at 8:12. 5. In for the morning, packed in for all day sit but that's gonna be questionable. Good luck to all going out.
  6. Good movement today so far. Small buck at 7. Then at about 810 6 doe being dogged around by a small buck and a medium sized buck. Had him in the scope a couple times at about 70yds and passed ... prob going to regret that. Then at about 835 another almost medium buck sniffing around where all the does cruised through.
  7. Set up in stand for an all day sit, going to be a cold one. I think by the time I'm ready to eat my ham/turkey sandwich later it's going to be a bit frozen...LOL. But still can't beat lunch perched 20feet up in a tree. Between the cold, the approaching storm, and possible trickling in of 2nd rut I think they're going to be moving pretty good today. Good luck to all out.
  8. Settled in stand...can sit till about 1130 then in to go to work. After yesterday's hunt, that puts me at 196.25 hrs of stand time, I'd say I'm due for one of the big boys to show up and the wind is perfect for this stand today. Good luck to all out there!
  9. Still here, although will be trying to bail out of the group this weekend...hunting tomorrow morning before work and then planning for all day sits Saturday and Sunday. Good luck guys, the season can all change in a matter of minutes, just gotta be in the right place at the right time.
  10. Rain finally stopped in 8F...out till about 12:00 before the days festivities begin. Good luck to all out and Happy Thanksgiving
  11. OK, managed to get out of work on time to settle into a stand by 1:45. It's a little warm out here but hopefully some deer will be up on their feet during daylight ahead of the approaching storm front. Good luck to all those out.
  12. Should be a good day out before the front moves through the area, hoping to get out of work a little early and sit for 2 - 3 hrs before sunset. On a side note, I've known for a few months now that I'm going to be a grandpa for the first time. Absolutely thrilled about it, but lastnight I received an ultrasound image of my grandbaby, which really made it all feel so real and I'm just beaming, so I had to say something. Looking forward to introducing him or her to the amazing world of hunting!
  13. I do the same thing. List is growing all the time. So far trimming two spots, quieting an annoying loud squeak that popped up on one of my ladder stands everytime I shift my weight or move, 2 new stand locations, and have a spot pegged for putting in my first ever food plot.
  14. Now a doe with a yearling just eased by real slow at 20yds. So far, much better than yesterday's all day sit without a single deer.
  15. Passed on a spike at about 30yds at 7:45. Nothing since and the wind is picking up.
  16. Just had more deer come by in the dark, sounded like chasing behind me, then ran by my stand. Hopefully this area stays this hot after sunrise.
  17. I always try to get in stand at least an hour before sunrise to give the area time to settle down and less likely bumping deer on way in...area seems to be settled down, just had a deer walk by in the dark about 10yds from my stand.
  18. OK, at it again...set up in stand for another all day sit. Good luck all still heading out and congrats to those that scored, some great deer taken yesterday.
  19. I'm with you Moho. Still in stand after getting here nice and early before daylight, at about 5:50...and not a single deer seen yet.
  20. Just got set up in stand for an all day sit and just heard a shot...5:58. Holy crap, it's black out here...hopefully was a shot at a yote but kind of doubting it...
  21. I had a small buck, 4 or 6pt, grunting and chasing a doe on Monday around me for about 45 minutes. Looked like he was dogging her for quite awhile she was snorting at him, stamping her front hooves into the ground at him, and bedded down 3 times until he harassed her out of each bed. Eventually she ran away with him in tow. Then Tuesday had a small buck grunting and chasing around 3 doe but after running back and forth for a few minutes, he chased them out of the area. Size wise could have been the same buck but couldn't tell for sure.
  22. I'm still here with you. Seems like this year is my year for small bucks. I have passed a bunch of young bucks and have only seen one shooter buck, a nice mature 8Pt, so far this season. Actually drew back on him at 15yds but he never presented a shot before taking off after the doe again. Had a small buck grunting and chasing yesterday and another small buck grunting and chasing today but no big boys.
