  1. Tom, sounds like my neighbor. Are you using cuttings?
  2. I would buy live stake cuttings of RedOiser dogwood and some willows. Do you have pictures of your white spruce trees?
  3. Just wondering who plants trees and what they are planting next spring? My order will be the following: wild plum choke cherry elderberry service berry long leaf dogwood redoiser dogwood chestnut oak swamp white australian pine scot pine loly pine white pine
  4. Arrow nocker, for someone who hasn't taken a buck over 4pts I give you alot of credit on passing young bucks. As for the age groups of the deer you mentioned I couldn't say without pictures of them? If you practice QDM and if they are all 1 1/2 year old bucks, they all get a pass. Without getting into QDM principles, you also need to understand buck dispersal. Most of your 1 1/2 year old bucks will leave your hunting grounds either in spring or fall and you should get your neighbors young bucks. This is why it's important for your surrounding lands to also have good habitat. Forget about changing genetics in a wild deer herd...won't happen. Remember 50% of the genetics comes from the doe.
  5. Bubba, are you saying only one buck tag a year? I'm for that.
  6. I'm not a gun hunter so it would be nice but if people only gun hunted that would be a short season. The tradition of gun hunting runs too deep in NY.
  7. Doc, I think deer gender ratio is a good question. Maybe you should start a seperate thread so this one doesn't get highjacked.
  8. broadhead-slick trick 100 standard, griz and razor tricks(love the razor tricks) arrows--still use easton carbon evolution and gold tip hunter.
  9. I do and it's not easy. It is alot of fun watching the footage at camp
  10. Congrats on that fine buck! How long are the main beams Culv?
  11. The problem I have with people spot lighting deer is they don't know the complete law. Most think because they don't have a gun with them that its legal however, spot lighting within 500 feet of a building is illegal unless you have permission. I get guys all the time spot lighting in my fields and its illegal because its within 500 feet from my house and my neighbors. Also, ticks me off when where in the house and flood lights come through the windows.
  12. Not aware of any food plot programs but NRCS has several timber and native grass programs. If you find some on food plots, please post.
  13. what does your 50acres consist of? elderberry, service berry, black berry, choke cherry just to name a few.
  14. That's a great story. Sounds like you are a great dad. I'm taking my little guy(also 4) up to camp this weekend. Everyday he wakes up and asks "are we going to the upstate house today" lol.
  15. Thanks guys! It was a special week hunting with my Dad and brothers and cousin.
  16. You my friend are a jackass...I never said I went into ohio, shook a land owners hand and he gave me permission. While I was talking to several locals permission came up and I was surprised to see they would grant access. This was a once in a lifetime trip for my family and it wasn't an outfitter nor a game preserve etc....do me a favor and don't reply to my posts!
  17. Steve, you are one negative guy! I stopped replying to your posts so do me a favor and don't comment on mine.
  18. WNY, it was private land. There is alot of public land but I was suprised to see landowners so open to let strangers hunt their land. All the locals were so nice.
  19. From what I hear rootmaker works. Go to the site and they have starter bags etc and go up from there.
  20. Thanks guys! It was a blast! Going back next year hopefully. Those brows are insane. Got most of that hunt on video but didn't get the shot on film Ohio long bow season and short gun allows these boys to get old!
  21. well, just got back from ohio and all I can say is wow! I have never seen more scrapes and rubs in my entire hunting experience. All 5 of us had opportunity to harvest deer. We winded up taking a 3 1/2 old 8pt and 5 1/2 old 8pt with two kickers. for those into score one scored 110 1/2 and the other 141 3/8. All done DIY style. Pictures to come.
