  1. any other pictures? that picture isnt good for judging.
  2. From my own experience a large sactuary will be taken over by doe group or groups. This happened to my 15-20 acre sanctuary. I'm in the process of hingecutting small pockets to encourage the 3 1/2 and older bucks to bed on my property. I'm also going to try NWSG.
  3. G-man, I use my trail cams on my food plots to determine B to D ratio along with visual observation. It's not exact but get's me close. I do one In June, Oct/Nov and January.
  4. yep, it's like Xmas everytime we pull the sd cards out of the cams to see what's roaming the grounds!
  5. When I picked up my property 10 years ago from a logging company. They left all the tops on the back east of my property and became our sanctuary. It's about 15-20 acres and we don't go in there except winter. Food plots are great but COVER and a place where deer are undisturbed is KEY. I had a point restriction in the first few years but my family and friends weren't having a good time anymore hunting with all my rules lol. But when we started to see mature big deer they started to pass on the young bucks. They just had to see it first hand to believe it. I would like to make the center of my property the place to be for big bucks to bed. It's an open field about 25 acres which will be planted in the middle with NWSG, pine and shrubs.
  6. No matter what form of AR is used there will be some bucks that will be harvested 1 1/2. Joe, your right, AR was created to increase the age structure in the buck deer herd but many seem to link it to TDM as well. For me I pass on young bucks and take out my does. It seems to be working on my farm. The last buck I took with my farm was 2006....tag soup is ok with a little salt. ;D This year we had on trail camera we had one 5 1/2, two 4 1/2, two 3 1/2 and some great 2 -1 1/2 old bucks. Passing up the young boys work even on small acerage.
  7. Pat, I just don't see a difference in the ag crops I grow commercially or the food plots for the wild animals on my land. I don't think food plots, baiting or feeders is a solution for AR. I like ar but don't like the point system, I rather have a one buck rule. One suggestion could be AR for part of the season? Let's change the opening for Archery to October 1st and from the 1st to October 28 a buck must meet AR requirements and after the 28th to last day of archery season no ar. For gun the first week would be ar and after that no ar. Late season no AR. Again, with a one buck rule. p.s. this is for the southern zone.
  8. my livestock consists of everthing that lives in the woods and my fields. whats your point?
  9. sorry, baiting or using feeders is not the same as food plots.......IMO
  10. the deer will keep eating the leaf till the end of October when they turn yellow and then start to hit the pods Nov till they are all gone. I will see if I have any winter pictures.
  11. Geno, its all soybean. Either the managers mix or habitat haven mix will work. here is another picture.
  12. 5.9, I don't see where Ernstseed sells Eagle? Also, I only see 3 dealers in NY not 9? Geno, the only Mix I planted from them was Habitat Haven blend but It looks like they changed the blend.
  13. Habitat Improvement and Timber Stand Improvement are the two main goals.
  14. sure stop by....The Forester will walk the land with you and based on your objectives ie timber, habitat, water etc...he will come up with detailed 10 year plan on how to meet your objectives. You also need this to file for any NRCS programs. Go to DEC site and look up The landowner Forest Stewardship.
  15. Well, it's long over due...I have DEC coming the 18th of Feb to walk my property and come up with a Stewardship plan. Best thing is, its free!
  16. First year NY has dealers......used best outdoors in Michigan in the past. Just, remember these are forage beans and you will need to add rr ag beans to the mix. Although, it looks like they have a managers mix for our area on their website wich should produce seed.
