Food Plot Seed Type Experiences
SplitG2 replied to phade's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I'm actually in the process of starting a seed company but it's still in the development stages. I will be offering true premium seed and blends. There will be pre-blends and custom blends, For the custom blends, you will have a section where you fill out the plot size and as you click the seed you want it will automatically tell you the lbs needed. -
Food Plot Seed Type Experiences

the forage feast for me has way too much rape in it. I like no more than 35% of rape in brassica blends. Most commercial seed companies have more rape seed in their mix because its cheaper than turnip seed. -

Maybe add plot size. Purpose of plot ( nutritional, kill or plow down( soil builder). Other benefits ie fixes nitrogen etc. -

This could be fun but maybe add the growing conditions for that planting. in my experience growing conditions varied and the success rate changed while all other planting factors stayed the same. -
Wow grow that's great for a ag bean. what brand and group?
-
zag, eagle started to turn yellow oct 1st- all yellow by the third week in October. Bball, what variety of eagle did you plant? I never got ag beans to grow more than 24" my eagle beans have reached 48"
-
I have always broadcasted them. Mid May is when I usually plant my beans, This year I will be planting with my 71flex planter in some areas.
-
grow I understand your situation. my crops are in the middle of my property and the doe groups take over the first, second and third layers of bedding. so mature bucks are forced to bed on neighboring properties. I don't have a problem with doe leaving my ground.
-
phade, you are correct about there are so many factors why Im not seeing mature bucks lately. mostly corn is by me not so much ag beans. not sure what the reason is?
-
grow....I love planting soybeans and hope to always have them in the ground. I use to plant eagle forage beans all the time but haven't planted them in 3 years. I have been baffled why my mature and young buck pictures have declined significantly over the last three years. Not 100% sure but when I have planted eagle forage beans I got many pictures of mature bucks. Nothing has changed in my management of my property but not planting eagle anymore but only planting ag beans. Not sure of the reason but im going back to eagle beans the next three years and see what happens. phade- I don't mind paying $82 a bag for eagle since it is used from May-December.

I believe the snow.

agreed phade about the QDMA responses. I have planted ag beans and eagle beans. I love them both. Just curious if anyone planted RWS? I haven't found a better summer and September food source than the eagle beans.
-
Anyone ever plant them?
-
What would you have done different ?.

Two things for me: 1. I wish I planted NWSG for bedding 2. I spend more time improving the land than I actually hunt. need to hunt more lol. -
thanks sits!
-
Culv, still debating the 10 versus 12' Project probably will not start until spring 2015. I will post pictures.
-
im actually thinking of using heartland perma columns instead of putting the posts in the ground.

Small hidden winter plot opinions

winter rye is planted usually in September. Available once it pops out of the ground...about a week. -
I have a tamper so my settlement shouldn't be bad. It will definitely have a indoor range! 84 lumber closed by me. Ill go back to Curtis lumber and see if they will beat DIYPoleBarn.
-
I'M looking at 40x60. Curtis lumber came in higher than the DIYPOLEBARN site. half of it will have a concrete floor.
-
Well, I have out grown my small barn. Looking to get a pole barn. Looking at DIY pole barn. Anybody use them?

you will only know once you plant it. You can do all the reading about plotting but you will learn from your experience. Some said soybeans under 3 acres can't be done..etc...many factors goes into it i.e. deer density, ag area, natural browse to name a few. Give it a try and learn from it.
